Re: Jump into the Poole Party: The Official Jordan Poole Thread
I think loads of teams could use him. Magic, Nets, Mavs, Bucks, Wolves, Blazers, Jazz, Suns, Clippers...
let's lay off the hyperbole. Poole's contract is hardly the worst in the league. Pool was the 48th highest paid player last year, and 25th highest paid guard, while also being the highest paid Wizard. Beal is still the gold standard, making almost twice as much, 9th highest player and 2nd highest guard, with the same number of years remaining on his deal, and a no-trade clause.

Beal's deal is worse, but I think last year Poole's was voted 2nd worst. Now it's a little shorter so if he plays like an instant offense reserve (Sexton type play), he might be tradeable.

Ok I'll give you Beal, Poole was 2nd worst.
But Poole was -553 points in +/- on the season. 3rd worst in the league in +/-, with $90 million left on his contact. A contract that increases every year. Hey maybe he gets better this year and breaks his 2 year slump. But he's not going to be playing next to 3 HOFers so the chances on that are low. I give him the lion's share of the blame for our miserable showing this year. Until he was relegated to the 2nd unit he had the highest usage on the team and the worst +/- effect.
No doubt he could have a redemption story and get blazing hot for a streak. Just in time to scuttle our bagg for Flagg campaign. And if so yeah keep looking for a trade partner. I don't see his defense improving, and am not sure why he will suddenly be a better team player, not dribble the clock away or make smarter time and situation reads.
I don't dislike the guy. I like how he has handled himself publicly. I appreciate the stories of how hard he works in practice. I like his G-League to finals star story. You'd love to see a guy repair his career after the literal and metaphorical public beating he has taken. I don't like how he has played, here or the year before in Golden State. He plays a style of ball that is contagious in a negative way. It forces other players to hog the ball if they want touches, and starves the pass-dependent players until they are a bail-out option but not in a position to succeed. I liked his better play under Coach Keefe, ie from the bench and with his play time controlled by whether or not he is making smart choices. Except for tank reasons and load management for Brogdon I'd rather give all of his minutes to Bub. Let Poole get burn against the 2nd unit and listen to any offers that show up if he runs a hot streak for a few games.

OTOH Poole was a player that did play better without Curry when he was on the Warriors for a period of time IIRC. Poole also did play better to close to the season when playing the point. Not saying he's a long term piece, but maybe there's a road that he can be moved although it seems like gus like him and Tyler Herro don't carry a lot of value around the league.

It has only been 2 games, but Jordan Poole is playing very good this season. The biggest problem with the Wizards this season is how bad Kyle Kuzma has been.
Viva le tank! At this pace, it will never end.

He's also leading the league in 3s made per game. Small sample obviously but great start.

I really like what I’ve been seeing from Poole leadership-wise, especially the way he encourages and interacts with the yougins during games.
A hard worker who is also an on court leader…that’s a good thing.

Credit where credit is due. He was good last night. Limited wtfs and actually tried on the defensive end.

How long does he have to sustain this improvement before he becomes traceable and what is the best the wizards can get in return for him?

His contract just gets worse - so at the trade deadline in '26-27?

Had a number of blow-bys on defense. Looked scared of David Roddy in particular, but everything else is clicking. And the lanky mob cover enough ground to hide some of his mistakes. The Hawks seemed afraid to challenge Sarr after he played volleyball with a few of their attempts. Loved the play where he blocked a shot and recovered it. Far better than blasting it cross country.

How does it get worse?
His Cap % goes down each year and with the upcoming jump, I see no reason to assume that contracts will come back to earth.
35/36 y/o Dame will be getting $112M while Poole is getting 65M. Guys like Kyrie will be getting 50M/year in his mid 30's as well.

Ah, so based on cap percentage yes. Based upon the actual contract. I would think most of his trade value will come at the end of his contract.
But if I am in the FO, I do the same trying to make him look like a bargin. My guess is that younger players coming up will look more attractive.
