Re: The Washington Commanders Thread
There’s no way a GM with a sound mind who was just hired is going to pass up Williams or Maye. It’s easy for message board warriors to go against conventional wisdom and pass up the two consensus qbs on the board for a fourth round QB prospect that he may like. In real life, that gets a GM fired.

Petters just came from a team that just suffered the black eye that was tray lance. Then regrouped and drafted a very good QB in purdy in the 7 Th round. Don't be shocked if he doesn't agree with you. It's not conventional it's fan logic. Ignoring red flags and ignoring asset management to draft a sure things stud from the media hype machine on a team starting a rebuild is not conventional, it's Dan Snyder logic.TGW wrote:There’s no way a GM with a sound mind who was just hired is going to pass up Williams or Maye. Look if we stay at two and Williams falls. No I don't love taking him at 2 but I can certainly live with that. trading up with Maye and Daniels on the board is unforgivable.
I believe in winners and I believe in dawgs.
Daniels, Ward, Milton are dawgs
JJ is a winner.

That's strange he declared for the draft then two weeks later committed to Miami. He must have gotten a huge NIL deal.long suffrin' boulez fan wrote:gambitx777 wrote:Petters just came from a team that just suffered the black eye that was tray lance. Either way!
Ward not being there as unfortunate as that may be doesn't change the math much on the first round.

It doesn't say much good about Peters' QB rating skills that he was involved in drafting a bust as the second pick in the whole draft, and then taking a very good QB with literally the last pick in the draft. I'm sure that this was one of the first questions that came up in his conversation with Josh Harris. The miss on Lance must just be burned into his consciousness LOL! He's hopefully on a mission not to repeat that mistake.
I wonder if Houston added some new scouts last year pre-draft. After years of horrible results, they hit it out of the park. Maybe Peters could poach some of those scouts.

From what I read, he had nothing to do with Trey Lance. Might be some spin, but the rumors are that Lance was a Kyle Shanahan/Lynch decision and not Peters.

It's okay to swing and miss on QB. The thing is, it is REALLY hard to tell who can actually process in the NFL, and while being in a pro style set helps, several successful QBs have come out of Air Raid style offenses, most notably Mahomes. And Trey Lance had elite traits, and if it hits, the Niners window gets extended even further.

That's the thing even if he was on board or if he opposed. It doesn't matter. What matters is that he learned from that mistake and doesn't fall from the same traps.Endless Loop wrote:gambitx777 wrote:Petters just came from a team that just suffered the black eye that was tray lance. We have fallen for those several times before with RGIII and Haskins. Don't make the same mistakes.

Re: The Washington Commanders Thread
The more I think about it, the more I think we have to do whatever it takes to get Caleb Williams. Where this franchise is with the new ownership group, the attempt to set a culture, and the hiring of the best GM candidate of the market… We need the generational QB (and coaching hire) to go with it.
Obviously, if Caleb is a diva who expects ownership or some other outlandish demand, my opinion changes, but I am going to assume that and the Chicago thing were just slander pieces.

Johnson seems like the one. Quinn is plan B. And I hate to say it but I’m guessing Morris is a Rooney rule interview.
I like all three though.
