Did we seriously lose the game by scoring on ourselves?

I wonder who's the next idiot on our blue line to deflect a puck into our own net?

My money is on Green.

Once a choking organization, always a choker. McPhee wouldn't go for it this year and it has cost them. Pittsburgh is a better team-bottom line. It's over unless Ovie can somehow carry them again. Semin, Green and the rest of the defense have cost them. I would have thought about using Threeormore this game, but I don't think it would have mattered. The kid has to be tired mentally and physically.

This. McPhee is a joke of a GM. The East was ours to take this year with no real strong contender and the idiot just sat on his arse and did nothing. I was unhappy at the trade deadline and I'm still unhappy. But I'm not surprised by the outcome of this series. Totally saw this coming. I'm not even angry because I was prepared for it.

I think the Caps give choking dogs a bad name. Take away their Stanley Cup final season and they have almost always have disappointed. Seven straight OT losses in the playoffs really says it all.

Oh stop it. If these playoffs have shown anything, it's that McPhee does know what he;s doing. We already beat Antropov and Morris, and with a bounce here and there we'd be beating Kunitz and Guerin -- and we're still going to win the series.

The depth the Caps have in the organization -- to be able to bring up guys like Sloan and Beagle, to be able to plug Pothier and Clark in, with a bunch of other future NHL'ers marinating in Hershey -- is how you build a champion. No measurable upgrade was available at the deadline for anything the Caps would have wnated to give up. Yes, they're a few players and a year or two away from being elite, but all their best players are complete puppies. People forget that they're ahead of schedule.

Even if the season ends on Monday, they'll still have made progress past last year. They'll have established value for a ton of their young guys and will have opportunities to better the roster moving forward. Once the dead weight like Nylander gets moved, this team will get even better.

But yeah, we're winning the series.

If it makes you feel any better, I feel like I'm going to throw up.

I seriously don't know how pro athletes handle the pressure. At one point late in the 3rd, I was *standing* in front of my TV and could feel my heart pounding in my chest. I'd say that I'd love to read a sociological study to better understand why sports fans care so much, but I'm pretty sure I'd just be ashamed and depressed at what it said.

It's not Antropov and Morris's fault that they play with cow dung around them. Put Antropov on the Capitals and he is easily Ovechkins right wing. Put Morris on this team and he is easily a top 4 guy (and Ovechkins practice rag doll). Kunitz and Guerin are also top 6 forwards on this team, though that doesn't say much when you have a piece of crap like Fleischmann as a candidate for being on the 2nd line every night.

Matter of fact is that this team underperformed and played like dogs to a New York team that had no business playing in the playoffs to begin with and just choked away a 2-0 lead to a Pittsburgh team that three weeks before the start of the playoffs was 5 points out of the 8th seed. Other teams understand that in the playoffs you need to put your head down and grind out. Not relying on a wuss like Semin who thinks it's a good idea to try and deke four guys at the top of the blue line in OT. Can't be a great team night in night out when one of your top players happens to be an inconsistent lazy head scratcher like Semin.

and are you really praising this team for having a guy like Beagle and Sloan come up? Sloan and Beagle??The only real talent playing in Hershey is Alzner, Osala, Carlson and Neuvirth and besides Alzner, no one knows how the rest of those three will translate into the NHL. Talking about Hershey, there is another team playing like dogs choking away a 2-0 lead to the Baby Pens.

Still this team isn't that bad... just filled with dogs and a history of losing in the most epic fashion to Pittsburgh. Again, not surprising and color me surprised if they win this series. If history is an indicator, they take this to seven and lose in triple OT on a Crosby breakaway right after Ovechkin hits the post the shot before. That's just what happens to this team when it plays Pitt. This was all scripted to happen when Brodeur let in two goals in 40 seconds with a minute left in regulation.

Yet another reason to hate Yanni:

http://www.danoshinsky.com/2009/05/yet- ... slike.html

Seriously, what's up with Pittsburgh? If they have a conflict on a night, they should find an alternate venue. Like the Verizon Center, for example. I'm not sure if it's the NHL that's 2nd (or worse) rate - or the Penguins or the Mellon Arena, but this is amateur. I don't want the team thinking/talking this way because that allows the losing mentality to creep in and once you begin to lay the groundwork for your excuses, you tend to ensure that you'll have the opportunity to use them - after you lose.

But as a fan, I can say that this really stinks. The NHL has the opportunity to showcase its two biggest stars. Playing them on back to back nights (with travel in between!) is hardly the way to put the best product out on the ice. AND they missed out on a Sunday nationally televised game. For Yanni? Really? Even baseball doesn't play back-to-back games when travel is involved. The NBA never does it in the playoffs. The NCAA tournament has a day between games - and those are 19 year old kids. But the NHL has their guys finish a game, travel in the middle of the night, and play the most important game of the series the next day. (Yes, I'm well aware that the Pens had to deal with the same conditions. Still doesn't make it right.)

If Pittsburgh can't get their act together to play the games when they should be played, then they should give up the game. Play it in Scranton. Or Hershey. Or the local Community Center. But don't mess with the competitive nature of the games like this.

OK, end of rant. I thought it was bad when my assumption was just that the league was trying to get two prime-time weekend games in. Finding out that this is all because of Yanni - well, that'll just send a man over the edge, right there.

We've given up way too many shots on goal so far, and we're not even out of the 1st period. Its a wonder we're only down 1-0. Where is our D (other than our goalie)?

Pittsburgh looks like a team that actually wants to win this game. Even when we have a man advantage, they play much better, more aggressive hockey.

DAMN IT. What a stupid pass to make in such a dangerous zone.

And then Semin on the break....nothing.

Where the hell has Alex Semin been this series?!

The IQ of these defense man is amazing. Let's see, take the puck and push it to the side boards so the penguins have to work it in the middle or take the puck push it into the slot 10 feet away from your goalie where a Penguin might pounce on it and have all 9 spots in the net to chose from.

This third rate defense is stopping this team from achieving great things. God damnit Carlson and Alzner, hurry the **** up and join this team.
