Isn't the team being coached by the assistant who came from the WNBA? Yeah, I hope he's not the "lead" assistant who takes over if Flip gets ejected. It would be like EJ/O'Koren all over again. :nonono:

Blatche - there was no good reason for him to be playing. And frankly, he should have been ejected for the intentional hack on Flynn in the 4th quarter. And what's the story on Heytvelt not getting PT? And If they want to see what this guy Edwards can do, why didn't the involve him in the offense? Whoever's making these decisions for th Wiz... doesn't seem to know what he's doing.

Actually I think it's a positive. Sammy is coaching the next two games I hear. This way the young puppies get to hear the voice of each of their bench staff headmen, learning to see them as authority figures to be heeded regardless. Better than tossing the job to Wes Jr for no real reason, no real long term benefit for anyone other than baby Wes.

As for Blatche, et al. New coaches. Flip gets to examine from a near distance without being required to focus on game minutia. Gets a handle on what tendencies need fixing. The overall picture. Seems like a plan to me. Long term, forward thinking.

I'm loving NIck off screens. He needs a big or two who can actually set a pick though. Need some remedial training there.

Relevant Tweets from David Thorpe (In reverse chronological order):

# Blatche on fire! Now 2-12.

#Pecherov for 3!! Love that guy.

#Blatche is bored. His 0-8 showing is a sign of that. Why is he here again?

#It's fair to start worrying about J Crittenton.

#Nick Young is too good for this league. I hope he carries this confidence to the winter.

As I watch these other young draft picks interviewed I can't help but notice how different there dispositions is from Nick Young. Nick has that same smiley stupid personality that Ajavis had.

Why do we have some many talented players who seem to be soft/smiley/goofballs ?

Gil was a goof. So was Arvis. Same with Blatche. Haywood was be he became tougher. But now we have another talented good in McGee.

This is one of the things that has bothered me about our past teams and why I hated GA as the superstar setting such a poor example.

This is one the things that was so graat about DSong. He was serious, smart BB IQ and tough. That was of great value to the time.

Hopefully Sam puts his stamp on this team.

I'm just now getting to watch the games on NBA TV (not planning on paying for these). In thinking about the other undrafted Bigs in Las Vegas, is there anyone else you've seen on the other SL teams that the Wiz should be considering offering a contract to?

You might check, initially, at the dark house each day or the night eating tangerines.

Great oop from Crit on that one.

Both Critter and McGee with solid games tonight.

BTW .. what is with the homer announcers in SL games ... the Minnesota guys were ridiculous and these Clippers homers aren't much better.

Well, he better enjoy it. He isn't likley to get the better of Blake much throughout his career. The play-by-play report indicated 12 of McGee's 19 points came on alley-oops. Wow. I'm glad his offensive game is developing so rapidly. What is that? His go-to move in the halfcourt. Hey, as long as he is athletic and can make YouTube videoes of him doing Transformers' voices I'm sure you guys will still keep claiming he is going to be a great one.

I hear ya but disagree. Blatche is in a lose lose situation. If he dominates, so what - he should. If he doesn't, the frustration mounts, and he does something regretable - possibly setting him back - certainly not setting him forward in any scenario. Meantime, Heytvelt doesn't get PT. One of the main purposes of having summer leagues is to povide a showcase for players like him.

Just from the box score alone, with McGee 9-11 and 7 blocks, I wish I'd paid for the NBA SL package.

The summer play for the Wiz has been solid just looking at the box scores.Young (prior to this game), Blatche, Crittenton, and now McGee have all done pretty well these 4 games. McGee was averaging 4 blocks prior to today. McGuire's rebounded well.

Best thing about McGee is his came against Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, two good frontcourt players. (They did each get double doubles, however).

The little that I saw tonight from the scrambled coverage, Javale did a nice job, but keep things in perspsective. He was going against a similar-type of raw athlete in DeAndre Jordan most of the night. The Clips were horrible. They missed Darren Collison who was hurt and Eric Gordon, who didn't need to play. I thought Blake Griffin was experiementing with his long-range jumper most of the night to mixed results. He seemed to struggle inside against Javale, who was so much longer. I'd like to see the full game but I think they were having problems with the NBA.com feed all night.

Griffin was settling for jumpers because McGee was patrolling the paint. McGee mainly guarded DeAndre Jordan and he often came over as a help defender.

You can't blame McGee for getting his points on alley oops, especially if the Clippers couldn't stop it. It's a very good skill to have especially after the Wizards offense penetrated the lane. BTW, no one is claiming that McGee is better than Blake Griffin; although he has a long way to go before becoming the best power forward since Tim Duncan. But if McGee keeps progressing, he can become a solid backup center.

I think what's encouraging is that Javaris Crittenton is establishing great chemistry with Javale McGee who assisted on 4 of the 6 alley oops. You have to figure guys like Gilbert and Foye could aso throw it up there to McGee once they get to the rim.

What really made McGee's game impressive was on the defensive end where he played solid man to man defense on DeAndre Jordan and was a great help defender with 7 blocks.

But he's still far from a finished product. One good summer league game won't cut it. But it's a start; hopefully McGee can show that he can bring consistent effort from game to game.

I assume you mean as far as this year, no? His real ceiling is way beyond that (one of these days: more votes than Yao, baby!).

But yeah, for this year I would be satisfied if he was even a mediocre backup center who showed flashes and improvement.

I can't imagine why anyone would be complaining about too many dunks. He's known for that. he was number thirty last year for total dunks in the whole league last year while playing 15 minutes a game. He has paleolithic era measurements: standing reach of a giant ground sloth with ups like a saber tooth tiger.

Suffice to say the man is built to throw down Larry Nance dunks.
