Re: Alex Sarr
Over his last 4 games he's shooting 11-40 from the field. What makes it worse is that he is getting abused on the other end. Opposing bigs are just going right at him and scoring routinely.

The growing pains of a skinny, raw 19 yr old.
He does need to take fewer 3s though and they need to run some pick-and-rolls to get Sarr alley-oops and other easy shots.
Yeah, he gets abused but the rook is also 4th in the league in blocked shots…ahead of guys like Anthony Davis, Myles Turner, Gobert, and Brook Lopez.
We’ll need to be patient but Sarr is gonna be a good one.

Re: Alex Sarr
Sarr can catch wide open oops, but he will struggle as a rim runner until his hands get strong enough to catch passes in traffic. In the interim, I'm ok with him continuing to fire away from deep. I'd also like to see him get a few possessions in the high post and/or face-up in the midrange, Aldridge-style.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

It's almost like he's not a center. The goal is for him to play that position at a high level eventually but now he's a PF, with subpar PF offensive skills.

I don't think he should have been the second pick.smoothSeph wrote:tontoz wrote:Over his last 4 games he's shooting 11-40 from the field. What makes it worse is that he is getting abused on the other end. Opposing bigs are just going right at him and scoring routinely.

I still do. I like the homerun upside pick. If he fails we'll most likely be back there to try again.

Re: Alex Sarr
Bro just hates contact right now. He's flashing here and there but I want to see him get tough and play with an edge. A change in attitude & aggression would make a huge difference even without adding additional skill. He's weak physically which is too be expected but he's got a better frame than Holmgren. Chet however, plays with that edge that Sarr lacks so far. I'm not down on him as it's a long season and he's been thrown into the starting C role much earlier than expected. The b-ball IQ defensively and flashes are encouraging. He's challenging a ton of shots. This is just highlighting what he has to improve at.

Re: Alex Sarr
Wemby took it to Sarr like Shaq did with Shawn Bradley.
Can't say I do. Who else gonna shoot?

Re: Alex Sarr
Wemby hit three after three on JV as well. There was no stopping him that game the way he was shooting unless we were double-teaming, and that's hard with cross paul on the floor.

Say what? Shaq used his strength and weight to push Bradley around. Wemby used his 3pt shooting, quickness, and slick footwork in the paint against Sarr.

Right? And yeah Wemby went for 50 but who else has both blocked and dunked on the french freak in the same game. Nice to see Sarr developing swiftly. Happy to be wrong about this kid.

I feel like his impact was even better than the stat line. He changed a ton of shots and got a few deflections in addition to those 4 steals and 3 blocks.
You can definitely envision a scenario where he is a game changing defender as he gets stronger and more experienced.

Re: Alex Sarr
I'm just amused by the small sample size madness of fan psychology. "He's a freaking bust, an empty stat sheet of ---- last night!!!", "ROY candidate!", "his last four games he's missed more shots than his top mph on the freeway!".
Honestly its freaking ridiculous. We're here to enjoy the ride, and watch the sample size pile up and see how he handles things, how he developed over dozens and dozens of games and eventually 180-270 of them at which point we'll begin to know exactly what he is, rather than just flashes of insights on potential from time to time.
People get over their skis (certainly me) at the good, and people get too far up their own rear about the bad too, if there a glass empty type too (like I can be sometimes).
The good news to me with all of these guys: they've all looked the part at different times the past 10 games. They've all showcased near ceiling or ceiling level games, games w/showcased more than anything that unlike nearly all the drafts the last decade, we didn't draft a bust like Troy Brown, or Johnny Davis, or a disappointment like Hachimura, Porter, or Kispert, we drafted guys who have good to very good ceilings, and appear to have legit complimentary floors above what you'd expect for double digit slot picks in a consensus horrible draft, including one pick that was closer to the start of round 2 than the middle of round 1. That's exciting as hell. We are getting "something's" out of this draft, we almost certainly getting 1 of the big 3 we need to matter, but we might, and regardless, what we are getting it seems, is young talent to surround the talent we're potentially landing in '25 to give Bilal. We can see a hint of what lays beyond the fog inbetween 2024 and summer 2027, just a hint, but it's some young talent.
That's exciting, but I do think people shouldn't get wildly out over their skis either way over individual games, or samples of 3 games here or 5 there.
