I still dont even know what the Vesely we projected is meant to be
It's not that confusing.
He's supposed to be a defensive PF that can be a weakside shot blocker, cause turnovers by using his quickness to cut off passes, and use his athleticism to be a high level PNR defender that can switch to a guard, stay with the big, hedge, whatever. A hustle guy that crashes the boards, gets out in transition and acts as a finisher.
I mean, funny thing is he already has all these tools right off the bat. He doesn't have to actually learn anything new. He just has to STOP FOULING. He can't stay on the court. That's his problem. He has to learn how to stay down and pick his battles. If he can learn how stay on the court he can be a big help to us.
Right. I read that before getting to the second paragraph and thought the same thing. He can already do all those things. He just needs to learn to play in the post better. Hold position. Bang with his hips. He isn't going to be the 3rd big wheel anyway so its not a big deal.
Most of his problem has always been where he was picked. He is a nice role player. Just not a #6 pick.
The pick from that draft that would have worked best for us would have been Nikola Vucevic
After that, maybe Kawhi Leonard, T Harris. But Nikola was more what we needed. or Donatas Motiejunas.
But lots of teams passed up on those players. Happen every year.
Could you imagine we had Wall, Beal and Vucevic. Vucevic was the #2 rebounding last year and he was just in his 2nd year. And two teams. 7-0 240. And he can shoot from the outside.
Now I have no idea that if we drafted Vucevic that we would also have been able to get Beal, but a big like that shouldn't have added many wins in year one. He was only 5 pts and 5 rebounds a game year one. So we should have still be able to get Beal.
And if we didn't get Nikola that year, I would have at least had Markieff Morris or T Harris who were also on my list as options. But Vucevic was really what I wanted because I wanted a center prospect. The kid looked like a can't miss pick. Skilled and a hard working. And all that height.
