I still dont even know what the Vesely we projected is meant to be

It's not that confusing.

He's supposed to be a defensive PF that can be a weakside shot blocker, cause turnovers by using his quickness to cut off passes, and use his athleticism to be a high level PNR defender that can switch to a guard, stay with the big, hedge, whatever. A hustle guy that crashes the boards, gets out in transition and acts as a finisher.

I mean, funny thing is he already has all these tools right off the bat. He doesn't have to actually learn anything new. He just has to STOP FOULING. He can't stay on the court. That's his problem. He has to learn how to stay down and pick his battles. If he can learn how stay on the court he can be a big help to us.

Right. I read that before getting to the second paragraph and thought the same thing. He can already do all those things. He just needs to learn to play in the post better. Hold position. Bang with his hips. He isn't going to be the 3rd big wheel anyway so its not a big deal.

Most of his problem has always been where he was picked. He is a nice role player. Just not a #6 pick.

The pick from that draft that would have worked best for us would have been Nikola Vucevic
After that, maybe Kawhi Leonard, T Harris. But Nikola was more what we needed. or Donatas Motiejunas.

But lots of teams passed up on those players. Happen every year.

Could you imagine we had Wall, Beal and Vucevic. Vucevic was the #2 rebounding last year and he was just in his 2nd year. And two teams. 7-0 240. And he can shoot from the outside.

Now I have no idea that if we drafted Vucevic that we would also have been able to get Beal, but a big like that shouldn't have added many wins in year one. He was only 5 pts and 5 rebounds a game year one. So we should have still be able to get Beal.

And if we didn't get Nikola that year, I would have at least had Markieff Morris or T Harris who were also on my list as options. But Vucevic was really what I wanted because I wanted a center prospect. The kid looked like a can't miss pick. Skilled and a hard working. And all that height.

Make him pratice vs ariza in the post everyday until ariza stop striping the ball...
Fck it jus make him look at tht footage of his fade away jumper and make him pratice it til our 1st game..he'll be the next ummmm dirk

Actually, not a bad idea. He would gain more from that then running around doing the wrong stuff.

Though this is who he needs to watch.

He can either play in the NBA and be a national embarrassment, or he can return to the Czech Republic where he's the Soviet Lebron James and bang Eastern Bloc supermodels every night and drink potato vodka. What's his motivation to do well here?

I thought that before. But I think Ves actually do want to make it in the NBA.

But Eastern Bloc supermodels every night and drink potato vodka.

Can you blame the guy if he mind might wonder into that camp ?

But he would make more here. You can buy lots of Eastern Bloc supermodels every night and drink potato vodka later with the added coin.

The Consiglieri wrote:I think it's very possible if he had the right coach/player combo he'd turn out better than a bust. What he needs is a huggy, positive support system where he doesn't get yanked when he screws up. Lots of players like that, you have to figure out how to reach them individually, and not just apply the same tactic no matter who it is, even a hard --- like Lombardi was willing to listen to Bart Starr's criticism and adjust his technique w/him to get the most out of him in his first year w/the packers, or Jerry Kramer who he ripped to pieces, then whispered in his ear, "You could easily be the best tackle in the league in a year or two".

I definitely think there's a point to make in regards to confidence w/the kid, he'd be at least competent, and not a total bust if he had a better support system, alas that is not here.

I don't think this game tells Porter's story by a long shot, just underlines my preexisting opinion to him from day one, a guy who doesn't do virtually anything great, especially the most important things, and is likely to have been way way way overdrafted, and a colossal mistake w/Noel still available and some other guys I liked too. I continue to pin my hopes on his mental make up, work habits, approach, and BBIQ to go w/his length. Maybe, just maybe, those assets can make up for the major issues I have with him.

Otto has nothing to do with Noel. Noel was passed over by PHX for Len. Both were injured and now PHX is even doing some minor fit it up on Lens ankles, which I have to think they spotted before... and they still wanted him over Noel.

Noel feel like a rock because he is a big he relied on athleticism for this defense and other advantages and people think he will be injured for a while, maybe longer.

The debate would be Otto vs Len, Zeller, Burke, CJM or KO, not Noel.

Otto physically reminds me of Gerald Green. Obviously Otto will be a much better player.

I've counted 3 ISO post plays for Vesely so far. Looked good on the last one and scored. Looked like poo poo on the first two.

Man. Our D in this game reminds of our D in the days of Gil and Jamison.

Actually, it does kind of matter. He is ruining the offense for every other player out there.

Gaines is just awful. Can't handle ball pressure at all, but tries to dribble around for 16 seconds before playing the first pass. He completely disrupts the offensive rhythm, just like yesterday.

Is Gaines the guy who's (trying to) play point?

In the big picture, four guys from this team, at most, will make the team. Only two of them, at best, will actually play. What Gaines does has no bearing on our team. That's why I say it doesn't matter much. So I don't care how garbage he looks. And if OP, Singleton, Ves and Rice can't overcome Gaines' weaknesses in this setting, then I don't want any of them on the court when the real games start up.

Vesely looks like gold compared to those other guys.

Though I really should temper my expectations, this is only summer league. I think Otto and glen rice jr will increase their level of play when they're playing along with John Wall and Beal.

Porter 4 for 8 with 8 pts in the 1st half. He's had a few open looks that just didn't go.

You can really see how useful Porter's length is in the passing lanes and on closeouts. Even when he's late getting to shooters he can still bother the shot. And he's got a knack for poking his long arms in and getting deflections.
