I used to be a Westbrook hater, but his stint here in DC inspired me to reassess.
He is such an unusual player. He is inefficient and has no conscience, so the stat nerds can fairly easily conclude that he is a net negative on offense given his TS% and USG%. But somehow, when I watch him play, I can't help but include that his relentless energy and aggressiveness have positive effects that aren't being counted by the stats. If nothing else, it's just a pleasure to watch him play with so much effort and joy. And it truly is remarkable that, at age 36, he is still one of the best athletes in the NBA.
By the way, Jokic casually posted 35 points (on a .714 TS%), 15 assists, 12 rebounds, 4 steals and only 1 turnover that game, and it's not even the headline. He was +33 in the 38 minutes he played that night. In the 10 minutes he sat, the Nuggets were outscored by 14.
That's the big thing- if Westbrook was with another player like LeBron/Durant (at this stage of their career anyways) - Westbrook would be viewed as a lot worse but as a $4 million player - he's fine. Still remains to be seen though what this means once Denver gets into the playoffs although other than OKC, Denver seems to have as good of a chance as any other team in the West.
