Horford plays for the Dominicans whenever they qualify for anything. He's part of the DR's Olympic basketball revival plan. His father/family are as Dominican as they come.....his family would beat him if he ever played for the US. The whole Alex Rodriguez Dominicsn vs American debacle ensured that no self-respecting Dominican with dual citizenship ever plays for anyone other than DR in anything. :)

What about Noah? He's better than Chandler and McGee. Kendrick Perkins is better too, but his game may not be that well-suited for international competition.

It just seems crazy to me that Javale McGee is being seriously considered for the national team. He is sooooo bad on defense!

Noah would play for France, I believe. Perkins just had ACL surgery, as did Andrew Bynum.

Brad Miller would bring a different element, but not sure he can guard anyone either at this stage.

I think the Haywood omission may have been born out of the fact that this team wants to play so darn fast and Brendan can't keep up the way the more athletic centers can. For all we know though, he may not have been interested.

Yup, France is still holding out hope that Noah will join their roster. http://www.fiba.com/pages/eng/fc/news/l ... wsid=40300

And Perkins is injured.

There is also a tendency to work with younger players as part of the developmental process more so than older players with USA basketball.

WTF? Noah was born in New York City. He went to high school in New York and played college ball in Florida. Why is his allegiance to France?

Unfair Nate, Noah has deep roots in France. Noah's mom was an international model living in Paris and everyone knows who is dad is (former French tennis star Yanick Noah).

Bottom-line, this is really about the opportunity to play ball in the international spotlight when your U.S. team doesn't have any interest in you, just like Kaman did.

I get that players would rather exploit some loophole of dual-citizenship to make sure that they can play in the Olympics somewhere, but when the U.S. actually needs you, you should play here.

Gotcha  The U.S. team is hurting for centers. Did the U.S. team folks try to secure Noah?

Let Noah play for France if he feels so strongly about it. I would rather have Noah play in the World Championships/Olympics than not at all from a competitive stand point.

I'm guessing Noah feels like he can play for France because he has strong family ties and cultural heritage there. Since his mother is Swedish, I doubt he has any family in the United States.

Re: The upcoming World Basketball Championship

Spain may be missing Gasol, but they didn’t have him for the 2006 championship game in Japan and won. Most of the other big-timers from Spain are on the roster, including Ricky Rubio, Juan Carlos Navarro and Marc Gasol. Jorge Garbajosa and Rudy Fernandez also plan to play for Spain as does the Raptors’ Jose Calderon. Argentina won’t have Ginobili, but its roster includes the estimable Luis Scola, Fabricio Oberto, Andres Nocioni and Carlos Delfino.

 The O-man plays again.

Mike James was good for a laugh today...Supposedly some reporter asked Jerry Sloan if he had heard that James's stated desire is to play for the Jazz this year (see RealGM Wiretap also)...Sloan's response?..."Who?"...HT to the John Thompson Show for sharing that...

Wow, can other teams do the same as us and list so many players who have played on their team that are unsigned FAs.

Of all these guys, most I don't care that they are gone. I did like DSong, Roger, Bobby before he was hurt, Sing can still come back, and Martin could make the practice team, but wow, talk about bring out your dead.

Not currently signed

Atkins, Chucky - See ya. Guess he is finally done.
Brown, Kwame - teams still looking. Kid is still only 28. Kwame if I only had a brain or some heart.
Cardinal, Brian - he play here right ? - I liked him. Had some good years.
Crittenton, Javaris - dude. I was pulling for you but man did you blow it.
Hayes, Jarvis - one of my least favorite Wizards. good ol smiley. Nick, dont let this happen to you.
Hughes, Larry - Liked him for 1 or 2 years. He was the original N1on5. I called him superman.
Martin, Cartier - Hmm. Maybe our practice squad
Mason, Roger - What a story. Should have never let him leave. Solid Roger.
McGuire, Dominic - I was a starter for one year. Still working on my shot. I liked the kid though
Oberto, Fabricio - At least he had that white guy Nash hair things going.
Pecherov, Oleksiy - Im really a 7-0 outside shooter SF. Wait, we just signed Yi. :o
Ross, Quinton - I could have been someone on a really bad team. Wait, I was on one and got no PT.
Simmons, Bobby - Bobby looked like he could have been a prime SF. Injuries.
Singleton, James - Still like James. Solid dude.
Songaila, Darius - I miss DSong. No jumps but what hustle and smooth shot. Played C for us. :o
Stackhouse, Jerry - Jerry I'll punch you in the face get away from my beach house
Stevenson, DeShawn - DSleezy. Hmmm. I'll never forget him calling our LeBron and the credit card
Thomas, Etan - Always injured Etan. He was bad ass for a year.
Watson, Earl - Watson was interesting when we had no PG

So where is mike james. Is he that bad that they didnt even list him ? Read he was looking at Utah. Mike, you can still be Jordan if someone would just give you a fair shot.

Signed
Blake - LA - We could have had a PG years ago if we kept him. Always said he would make it.
Foye, Randy - Clips - another team. Another chance.
Haywood, Brendan - Dallas - I thought he was a core piece. Hated seeing him go.
Livingston, Shaun - bob cats - Go luck Liv. I was a fan while you were here.
Howard, Juwan - Heat. Wow, he is still playing. Still hate you for what you did the the Wiz.
Miller, Mike - Heat - Like me some Mike. Just wish he would have shot more.
Wallace, Ben - Pistons - I didn't like us letting him go back when we did. Wow did he show everyone.

I'm pretty sure DMac signed with the Bobcats and Earl Watson didn't ever play for the Wiz.

Songaila, DeShawn, and Quinton Ross are all under contract this year. Dominic McGuire signed a one year deal with Charlotte a few weeks ago.

Who was the PG we signed short term a few years ago when AD was hurt. He was a little speedy dude.
