Edited --> Here's a big money BOYD type move:

SpearsNBAYahooClippers have agreed in principle to trade G Baron Davis to Cavaliers for G Mo Williams, sources tell Y! Sports.

I guess it's the Clips own 2011 pick, which is maybe 8th or 9th. Hand it to Gilbert for digging into the coffers in an attempt to shave a year off the Cavs rebuild process. I think they were too deeply submerged in the filth heap to be plugging single picks in each year.

Donald Sterling showing his true colors there too.

Wow, I really don't get that for the Cavs. Before Blake Griffin took the league by storm, Baron was a fat load (literally and for cap purposes). If he can't even get motivated in his home town, why would he perform in Cleveland?

And if there really is a first rounder being included, it's also horrible for the Clippers.

How is it that both teams can lose a trade so badly? :) It would seem the Clippers did well in getting rid of Baron Davis, but Mo Williams hasn't been much better. I think they might have been better off trading Kaman for expirings and buying Baron Davis out. That would have but them in a great place in terms of cap space. They still would have a core of Griffin, Eric Gordon and Aminu with likely 2 or 3 lotto picks in the next 2 years(their picks and the twolves next year).

I think the Hinrich trade is a win-win trade(although I like the Wizards side a little better). I also think the Deron Williams trade was good for both sides. I think the Anthony trade was decent for both sides.

Clippers save $ in 2012. Another team looking at 2012 where Chris Paul and/or Deron Williams could be available.

As Hoopa aluded to, never "bank" on Donald Sterling. He'll spend occasionally - just to throw people off - but I think he's shown historically to be one of the cheapest owners in pro sports. Even with Blake Griffin there as the perfect player to attract PGs, I bet he doesn't seriously go after Paul or Williams.

I don't think the NJ-Utah trade negatively affects us at all.

It helps us in the ping pong ball race. Our team is years away from competing for a ring, so what we need is good competition now to help us row. Give Wall more games against DWill. Give our team more chances against Miami and NY. These teams are all much older than us. The only team that really scares me, if they can acquire more big pieces, is Chicago and the Clippers, as they have great cores and are equally young.

Also, I don't think this will end will for NJ.

So basically, Thabeet has been such a bust that it's going to require incentive for moving him for expirings:

Alex Kennedy - 02/24/2011 10:20am EST-

The Memphis Grizzlies are confident that they'll be able to complete a deal for Shane Battier before today's deadline, according to sources close to the situation. One scenario that has been discussed would send Hasheem Thabeet and a draft pick to Houston in exchange for Battier. Nothing is imminent, but Memphis believes talks are progressing.

http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=18860

That's really kerflunkerton for the 2nd pick in the draft, but the problem is that he's at that second pick salary slot which is basically like MLE money. So "taking a flyer on the second pick" is not so very dissimilar from taking on Desagana Diop (except Thabeet is healthy).

I imagine that the Griz are also seeing value in Battier with their playoff hunt, but still, that's a pretty nasty fall for the second overall.

If we could get a pick and Thabeet for an expiring, I'd look at that.

Maybe we could get a better pick for taking on Desagana, pretend that Desagana is Thabeet and then say "well, Desa...I mean, uhm, 'Thabeet' didn't develop like we'd hoped". That might be the better option.

OK, I'd at least call and find out about the details, but we don't have an expiring as helpful as Battier for a playoff push especially given Shane's history in Memphis.

I'm on my phone, so don't want to hassle with the trade checker.

But doesn't Yi make something like Thabeet money? If we can pry a middle-of the pack pick along with Thabeet (Hilton Armstrong the Second) for Yi. Just maybe...

Why for Memphis? Somebody with good sales skills go talk to them about international marketing opportunities. /green font.

^ I don't think Memphis takes Yi since they seem to want a swingman. But we do have Howard and Thornton. Those two Thabeet+pick?

And what about Xavier Henry? Is he part of their longterm plans?

The reason I read was that the Clippers were saving money for Eric Gordon's extension, so would say they aren't looking at spending on a big name FA. Another option could be Sterling simply trying to cut costs however he can to maximize whatever profits he can get from Blake Griffin.

And if that's the case, I would absolutely give up all our expirings for Kaman and a future first payable in 2012 or 2013. It's guaranteed to be a lottery pick and it doesn't affect our 2012 plans.

Celtics just traded Perkins to the Thunder for Kristic and Jeff Green. And the Grizzlies just traded Battier to the Rockets for Thabeet and a first rounder.

Wow. Jeff Green+ Krstic for Perkins+Nate. Green can back up the 3 and the 4; the Thunder get their defensive-minded banger.

Wow. OKC just got a lot bigger. They also picked up Nazr Mohammed. He's no stud, but he's got height. Between Ibaka, Nazr, Perk, and Collison, the Thunder can at least match up lengthwise with the Lakers.

Phoenix trades Goran Dragic and a 1st round pick for Aaron Brooks.

Memphis trades Thabeet and their first to Houston for Battier.

So Houston manages to get two first round picks in 2011 plus their own lottery pick.

Grizzlies also trade OJ Mayo to Indiana for Josh McRoberts and a pick. WOW.

Great deal for OKC. Major head scratcher for Boston. Green isn't that good and Perkins is one of the few guys who can effectively defend Dwight 1 on 1.

Wow talk about a flurry of activity.
