And as is tradition on the Wiz board...the second round pick thread gets more play than the first pick thread.

Anyway, who among us hasn't fired off a few rounds from a moving vehicle? It's a hell of a lot safer than firing from a parked car.

Epic post....just epic
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Eh, Rice was just the wheel man. He might butt heads with Cliff Paul over an accident claim, but that's about it. ;)

Well, no one can accuse EG of ignoring the D-league now...

Yeah but it really screws up the aim, and god forbid the wanker you got driving hits a speed bump. You could really mess up your ankles...you don't want to go to jail with bad ankles. :o

Not the guy I wanted but hey that's usually the case. I think it's pretty good value though & they were never going to draft & keep the other 2nd round pick. You can't accuse us of drafting for need since we needed a back up pg & a true center. This draft had tons of good back up centers. OTOH I'd bet Rice is more NBA ready than 3/4 of the players in this draft.

I'll just focus on the player since you guys are capably handling the lampooning . From a talent perspective to me, there's very little separating Rice Jr. and multiple wings that went before him in the first round like Karasev and others. He's very physically gifted, he's very aggressive with a high skill quotient and unlike some of the others I was alluding to, he's physically mature. He'll be a very good player as long as he doesn't go the way of Blatche and co.

ATLANTA -- Glen Rice Jr. was kicked off the Georgia Tech basketball team Tuesday, less than a week after a shooting incident outside an Atlanta nightclub led to criminal charges.

Coach Brian Gregory cut ties with the junior guard, who was serving his second suspension of the season at the time of the latest trouble. A graduate student manager already had been dismissed from the program for the same incident.

Little bit of Blatche, little bit of Crittenton. Another tweener.

Wolters played at a high level for four years. Games against Wroten, Ross, Burke, Canaan, and NCAA near-leadings stats in points, with great pure passing ratio and much better defense than Burke are part of why I liked him. Insurance against a Wall or Beal injury made him a logical choice.

Once Bill Simmons heard about Philly getting him he raised their grade to "A".

Arsalan Kazemi produced wins at Rice then Oregon. He plays intelligently on the boards and is a superior defender and an efficient offensive player.

Porter, Olynyk, Kazemi WOULD HAVE BEEN a great draft.

GR III rides in cars with people who fire guns. His dad has been in the news for criminal behavior. The guy was disciplined by different coaches before getting kicked off the team.

Way to go, Wizards. Bravo.

Rice was benched at the end of his sophomore season at Georgia Tech and suspended twice for a total of nine games as a junior. He was kicked off the team in March 2012 after driving a car from which one of his passengers fired a gun.

Ryan Blake, the NBA’s director of scouting operations, said that Rice’s D-League performance has shown his maturity.
“He took the bull by its horns, he made it professionally,” Blake said. “He’ll tell you that he made mistakes, was immature, did things that were wrong.”

So, it sounds like he was hanging out with some knuckleheads and got punished for it. And, if this Ryan Blake is to be believed, he's learned from his mistake and grown from it.

As "thugs" go, this doesn't seem *that* bad.

Caron Butler was considered a "thug" at one time too.

Looks like he good. I wonder the rotation. Seem to me that EG knows Webster is not coming back or has agreed to a sign and trade.

Checkered past yes, but by all accounts he's turned it around. As Nate mentioned, Caron wasn't exactly a cuddly puppy.

Dat2U wrote:Ok, here it is. My final draft board. This is the one you want to bring up next year to humble me whenever I act like a smart ass :D

TIER ONE... Franchise level talents

The easiest tier to predict, lol.

TIER TWO... Very good starters, possible all-stars

1. CE Nerlens Noel ... Cross b/w Joakim Noah & Tyson Chandler. Freakish athleticism, explosive.
2. SF Otto Porter ... Do it all SF with cerebral game. Better upside than many suggest
3. SG Victor Oladipo ... Tony Allen with a better outside shot. Wade comparisons are way off base.

TIER THREE... Solid starters, top level 6th man types

4. FC Kelly Olynyk ... Possible steal of the draft. No recent comparables in draft relative to skill level/height
5. PF Cody Zeller ... David Lee'ish type PF. Productive, not quite the rebounder Lee is.
6. CE Alex Len ... Ideal physical profile for C. Broken foot gives concern. Will be good if he works at it.

TIER FOUR... Role players on good teams, starters on weaker teams. Guys that can fill out your rotation

7. PG Trey Burke ... Very skilled guard with outside shot. A winner. Not a great athlete tho at PG
8. SG Kentavious Caldwell-Pope ... Good shooter, excellent rebounder. A better version of Nick Young.
9. GF Jamaal Franklin ... potential draft steal if jumper is ok. Has length to play SF position.
10. CE Lucas Noguiera ... another potential draft steal. Performed well against quality overseas comp.
11. SG Ben McLemore ... potential draft bust if he doesn't handle the pressure well. Ballhandling is red flag.
12. PF Anthony Bennett ... A dreaded tweener. Offensive potential may be offset by defensive shortcomings.
13. SF Glen Rice Jr. ... A sneaky pick who dominated in the DLeague late in year like LeBron did in the NBA.

I don't think this has any impact on Webster. Ariza came off the bench and has the expiring deal; he's the trade piece here. I fully expect EG to re-sign Webster to start at the three, with Porter coming off the bench. Webster will play some backup SG as well, alongside Porter at the 3. Rice will be a deep-bench backup SG. But I don't see anyone getting substantial minutes at the 3 other than Webster and Porter.

Now *Singleton* should be looking at this draft as (a) his cue to bulk up to stretch 4 size, and/or (b) his walking papers.

Glen Rice Sr. is one of only a handful of players I've seen score 50+ pts (never seen it live, Arenas came closest). If Jr. can bring a fraction of that off the bench, I'll be OK with the pick. Still, I was hoping they would make a strong move on PG depth.
