Well with so many days off, its hard to get a feel for where the team is right now. MIN hasn't played since Sunday. Wizards haven't played since Saturday. The first quarter could be rough.
But I agree. No telling what they look like. I usually take a positive spin on things but I also try to be a realist. I don't like the front court match up of Booker and Gortat against Pek and Love. I could easily see them getting crushed on offense and defense. And with MIN having the match up advantage there, I think that puts pressure on TA to hit that 3 ball. I expect Brewer to blanket him and close out hard to the 3 line forcing TA to put the ball on the floor more. That puts everything on Beal and Wall. Well Martin is 6-7 so Beal is going to have to dribble away from him to find that open mid range. He isn't going to get many wide open looks because we have no inside game advantage to start the offense. Not ideal. That leaves Wall. What will he do ? Will hit take a lot of open elbow shots ( expected he shoots them with Minny playing back but will they be falling ) or will he drive and try to get Love and Pek in foul trouble ? This is where a Tony Parker tear drop shoot would come in handy.
So if they start Wall, Beal, TA, Booker and Gortat, I think Minny actually matches up really well and it put most of the offense on Wall and Beal and of the two, mostly on Wall. This kind of match up is when I like our offense and this line up the least. If Wall is hot, we can crack their line up by hitting elbow shots. If not, we will look like total ass and struggle to score 20 pts in the first quarter.
One way to adjust to this is to except that Love is a mis match and make him play D. You can do that with a S4 line up of Wall, Beal, Webster, Trevor A and Gortat. They will get crushed on the boards but they will spread out MIN when on offense so we can rain 3s and Wall can drive. They can just trade points until we get better match ups against their 2nd unit. Another way to go is start Ves and hope Ves and Gortat's length can have some effect in the post. A 3rd option is to start Nene and Kevin instead of bringing them off the bench. Just flip the rotations. Nene and Kevin first. Ves or Booker with Gortat 2nd. That's a better match up.
Will Randy do any of these things. I doubt it. So it all rides on Wall and his elbow jumper. If it's there, we are in the game. If not, we will be down 8-12 pts at the 4 min mark of the first.
