Induveca wrote:Hurt, he actually got a promise from the Wiz he would never be sent to the D-League. That's why he came over this year.

I suspect being a Parisian he simply wanted to remain in a major city. Ending up in the Dakotas would be a major major culture shock of the worst kind of way for a city dwelling frenchman like Seraphin.

I am sure DC is not what he thought (much smaller city feel, most Euros are always surprised the capital isn't the dominant cultural city like in all of Europe). My conclusion is he may be unhappy as he likely expected a New York City experience akin to Paris or London. Instead he is likely driving for the first time in his life, and is living in some suburban house in Virginia. Depression must be there a bit.

Most French cities are architecturally beautiful and the style of life is nothing like the DC area. It will take him some time to accept his surroundings in a DC strip mall focused suburb. Tony Parker mentioned the same thing about the US/reliance on cars for simple daily tasks etc and how much it shocked him many years back.

The Post had a feature on Kevin yesterday...
Seraphin visited the Wizards a week before the NBA draft and immediately fell in love with the city, telling N'Diaye that it was his "top choice." When he spoke with team president Ernie Grunfeld, Seraphin told him: "You have to take me! You have to take me!"

About his playing time
Seraphin got little playing time during the preseason, a trend that will likely continue in the regular season. "I'm not comfortable on the court, so I understand why the coach is not playing me," he said. "But it's tough to watch the game from the bench. I don't like that."

Saunders thoughts
"With guys like that, all of sudden, the light bulb goes off and their improvement skyrockets. Sometimes it takes longer. You really don't know," Saunders said about Seraphin. "Once he starts understanding everything, he won't have to think he can just react, and when he starts reacting, instead of thinking, that's when he's going to be at a high level."

Closgg, main difference is visiting downtown DC/Verizon Center....seeing the subway etc...DC is actually the only city in the US with a true european vibe. DC itself and its architecture was actually modeled very closely after Paris by Thomas Jefferson L'Enfant and Latrobe.

This trend actually continues today. I can see why Seraphin fell in love, many of DC's monuments are near copies of Parisian antiquities due to Jefferson's obsession with Paris during his time there, and his insistence on hiring French (more specifically Parisian) architects. Jefferson actually had the south portion and dome of the Capitol modeled after the Halles Des Bleds in Paris. The reason? It's where he met his favorite Parisian lover......many didn't agree but he insisted. The entire city was modeled after Paris in many ways, or at the very least french architecture.

The area between the White house and the Capitol is a salute to Parisian architecture. Explains why Seraphin was so impressed at first. Now he's in Reston by all accounts......that has to be a shock.

If that's really an issue for him and he really lives in Reston, all he has to do is move to DC - where he works. If he really did move to Reston, doesn't that tell you it's not an issue?

I believe John Wall lives in the city, a rarity for a Wiz player.

He's living in Reston? Dude is making over a million this year. He could have easily bought a condo downtown somewhere.. No need to live all the way out there.

Gene Wang with a nice post on Wall at Wiz Insider:

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/wizard ... l#comments

Had some cool Seraphin info, though:
Wall's initial temperament was that of the reserved, eager student, receiving advice from Coach Flip Saunders and discussing the game with guard Gilbert Arenas as the workout session wound down. Then the fun-loving, encouraging youth emerged as many teammates watched a one-on-one game between starting center JaVale McGee and reserve forward-center Kevin Seraphin.

Late in the matchup, Seraphin was taking the fight to McGee in the low block, scoring several baskets in a row and attracting the attention of other players who were milling about or shooting at the other end of the court. Then when Seraphin caught McGee out of position on a fake, he elevated near the basket and came down with an authoritative dunk that brought Wall off the floor and into a dead sprint yelling, "Go to work! Go to work!"

Wall then chest-bumped Seraphin and assistant coach Sam Cassell, who had been feeding the ball into both McGee and Seraphin as the unofficial supervisor of the makeshift drill. Soon after, Al Thornton came running down the court, and he and several other players mobbed Seraphin, who bellowed like a conquering hero.

Very cool. Can I be the 5,729th poster to say - Gawd, I love Wall.

Not to spoil the moment for Keveen, but most of us could pump-fake and then score easily on Javale. Hopefully, the day will come very soon that KS will take over Armstrong's role as the 4th big.

I just hope that moment isn't Seraphin's highlight of the year. Even if he is incredibly raw, I see no reason he shouldn't be getting a little burn here and there to at least get a taste of real NBA competition.

How is he going to develop if all he gets to do is abuse our bigs everyday in practice?

don't start badmouthing my city of residence

:)

I bet he found himself a nice place and at the time of day he
commutes to DC and that he has parking at the phone booth,
I bet Reston suits him just fine. If he lived downtown, then
he'd be in the city.

So when are they going to get the kid some damn minutes in a game ? I can't wait to see what he can do good or bad. I just want to see him in a game when it matters so I can see what he has. With the body and fire he has he should be able to do something.

This kid hasn't even seen 1 second this season. I know it is only 7 games but I want to see what he has.

I'm not sure but I know that asking about a coach's tenure after 7 games of a completely remade, very young roster is nothing short of silly.

It doesn't take hours to figure out that something smells like ****. It doesn't take a full season to a figure out that a coach is worthless to this squad.

Actually, in this case yes it does.
