Re: Nene
I would like to hear more about this new program they have him on.
Nene is build like a football player right now. He needs to get in better shape and drop his body fat. At least it looks that way. He could be leaner and as such, he would be even a bigger beast. A basketball beast.
They need to also work on flexibility, etc.
I had heard he wasn't the best when it comes to training. Maybe a change in program could help him get over the hump where he is leaner, a little lighter and more flexible. And all that will lead to better health.

You are so right, he might be the best passing big man in the NBA today.

Re: Nene
That was one of my favorite Nene games. He got jobbed on some calls too, surprised he didn't get in a funk. A couple bad no calls when he took it inside and a pair of iffy foul calls that made him sub out in the second.
His size and his IQ are special. He's easily one of the smartest basketball players we've ever had.

I think all of us who have watched most of the games this season have seen - painfully - Nene not getting calls all season long so far. It's been almost to the point of absurdity. Maybe its a good thing sometimes, considering how he's been missing FT's. I wonder if a high profile win like this makes a difference in him getting calls going forward. Officials don't consciously do it, but there are clearly biases involved in officiating, and winners get calls. If he starts getting 10 foul shots a game, we'll know the answer.

Officials will call contact on jumpers but, except for a very small and select few, I think officials punish players for trying to take the ball inside. Plus, except for Dwight Howard, officials give the really powerful bigs the shaft because I think they subconsciously try and correct for their size and strength advantage. Nene just isn't one of the players that refs give the benefit of the doubt. Which puts him in the norm for most players around the league. But the difference is that, in our system, Nene gets a ton of ISOs in the post and he draws a lot more contact than usual.

Nene or the bobblehead?
Great guy, Nene, and once upon a time a tremendous player too. You are certainly right that for a 4-5 to get 9 assists in 34 minutes is terrific. And he also had 2 steals and 3 blocks.
So... those are the cherry-picked numbers. The cherry-bomb numbers are that in 34 minutes he had exactly 4 rebounds and went 6-15.
Overall, he had an Ok game, nothing special, and *certainly* not demonstrating that "he is one of the best PF in the league."

PIF, look in the mirror. You'll see the cotton-pickin' cherry-picker.
Nene scored 19 points, had 4 boards, 9 assists to 1 turnover, 2 steals, and 3 blocks and all you can say is - meh, he shot 6 of 15 with 4 rebounds. Did the team need him to grab a lot of boards - considering they out-rebounded the Heat? ...and considering he had the highest +/- on the team - which seems to happen a lot.
Must be a coincidence.

Re: Nene
I agree that Nene had a great game and hope he has many more.
That said, when I look at the data in aggregate, I see a markedly less productive player than the one who signed the extension in Denver. I had held out hope that Nene was going to lose weight, get healthy, and boost his production. But the sad truth is he's just not THAT good anymore.

Well, all I can tell you is - he makes the team dramatically better because he does what the team needs. And making the team better is the most important characteristic of a good player.

Re: Nene
Nene certainly helps the team when he plays but he is clearly on the decline. His TS and rebounding are at career lows. Among 4s he is 55th in rebounding rate and 41st in TS.
He has definitely been struggling to put the ball in the basket lately, from the field and from the foul line.

Re: Nene
His AST% is the highest in his career...
He has only had a DRB% is over 20 - he has only done that 4 times in his career.
But yes, the shooting and getting to the line isn't like in previous seasons.
