Could Robert Carter Jr. Be The Terps' Best Player?

CBSSports.com’s college basketball insider Jon Rothstein joined The Norris and Davis Show on 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore yesterday to talk about why he’s so high on Maryland going into next season. In his most recent preseason top-25, Rothstein ranks the Terps as the top team in the country.

Rothstein is one of the most plugged in national analysts in all of college basketball, and after checking out a number of Terp practices in the last year, he is very high one what Georgia Tech transfer Robert Carter Jr. will bring to the team. The 6-foot-9 power forward, who sat out last season, has gotten in better shape in his year off and sources have told InsideMDSports that he’s been an absolute load in practice for the other big men. Future Terps point guard Anthony Cowan, who has been working out with the team recently, also mentioned him as someone to look out for.

“I think one thing that has really separated itself when you look at Maryland’s roster is the depth of talent that Mark Turgeon has at his disposal,” Rothstein said yesterday. “I know a lot of the hype surrounding Maryland is going to be -- for good reason -- around Melo Trimble and Jake Layman, but I really have no doubt in saying this: I think the best player on Maryland’s team is going to be Robert Carter.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Four McDonald's AA players.. I know Trimble is a better shooter than Wall. He drives to the rim and forces guys to foul. Sulaimon is a prototype of what the NBA looks for in combo guards. Wall's a 5-yr pro. Beal's a 3-yr pro. Of course I got carried away. :)

But not too carried away:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc- ... -favorite/

After former Duke guard Rasheed Sulaimon committed to the Terps last week, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothestein bumped Maryland to No. 1 in his still-way-too-early rankings.

Vegas took notice, too. In Bovada’s latest college basketball futures odds, Maryland is the favorite to win the national championship at 9-1, followed by Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina at 10-1.

That’s right: Maryland is the favorite to win the 2016 national championship. Let that sink in.

I'm watching my first NCAA lacrosse match. Go Terps!

This is fun to watch.

Yeah... my son started playing lacrosse last year and it's a really fun game to watch... especially once you get the rules down (which really aren't that hard to figure out).

Great that Maryland won... A little bit of luck on that last second save by the goalie with the butt end of his stick.

I think that makes both men and women in the Finals.

UMD is having a heck of a sports resurgence! Don't hear much complaining about the move to the Big 10 anymore, do we?

Here's to hoping for even better days ahead!

Maryland Football: Five Terps Poised to Break Out

After returning virtually its entire starting lineup last season, Maryland football will undergo more transition in 2015. A look at five not-yet-established players who could be poised to convert opportunity into breakout seasons:

Wes Brown

Brown is Maryland's most gifted running back, but off-field issues, injuries and fumble problems have kept him from establishing himself during three years in College Park. Now a rising junior playing behind what's expected to be an improved offensive line -- and with fewer running backs to dilute the workload following the off-season departures of Jacquille Veii and Albert Reid -- Brown has another opportunity to shine. But health again is a question mark after he missed spring ball following surgery to repair a torn labrum, and Brandon Ross has consistency on his side in the competition for carries.

Still, entering his fourth year, Brown's due to live up to the promise he's shown as times during college and as a four-star recruit.

Caleb Rowe

Rowe's the most obvious choice on the list because no one on Maryland's roster will have a bigger opportunity this fall. Not only is starter C.J. Brown gone, but there's little depth behind Rowe and no serious competition to speak of. If he stays healthy and does even a decent job of protecting the ball, Rowe's got the keys to the offense firmly in his grasp. But like Brown, he's got injury and turnover question marks after suffering two torn ACLs, the last of which forced him to miss spring ball.

Still, Rowe's got the best arm of any Maryland quarterback since Randy Edsall arrived, and there's plenty of talent in the wide receiver corps.

Over the years quite a few players have transferred from Coach Frese's teams.

http://www.testudotimes.com/2015/5/26/8 ... r#comments

As for where Brown might land, I'd suggest watching the news for Kayla Davis who has, reportedly asked for her release from Georgia Tech. Davis, a 6'2" wing hails from Suwanee, GA, the same home town as Brown. Though they played for rival high schools, the two are reportedly close friends. Dave was a first team All-ACC performer in 2015 and it will be quite a recruiting coup should the two reunite on the same college team.

Wonder if "Dave" was a Freudian slip by the writer, or a nickname of Lexie Brown's friend?

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/terp ... story.html

Baltimore Sun gives another explanation:

Brown is close with her family, and the logistical challenges for her mother and siblings to attend games grew more complicated last season when Maryland joined the Big Ten. During her freshman year, the Terps were in their final season as a member of the ACC, where Maryland's road games often were within driving distance for Brown's relatives.

Suwanee, huh? Cool! Maybe I should get out to some girls' HS games once in a while...

Jaylen Brantley, 5-11, 160, PG, Odessa (TX), Committed to Maryland

After transferring to Odessa from Marshall, Brantley made the most of his only season on the junior college level. He starred as a scorer and a playmaker, averaging 14.3 points and four assists per game. He should combine with Romelo Trimble to give the Terps one of the best set of point guards in the country.
