Yea so Bienemy can screw up the next quarterback? No thanks.

This has been a fail of a coaching search, but whatever. The candidates they wanted were scared of the scrutiny. Quinn will probably be the coach, and they will have a couple of mediocre seasons with him at the helm.

Sad that with new ownership, high draft picks, a ton of cap space, and even more draft picks Skins still weren't anyone's first choice

gun to head, it'd have to be Bienemy. who's left? the only candidates left are defensive guys who'll have to hire an OC anyway, and we just whiffed on all the good OCs.

you don't want Bienemy to screw up May, fine. You don't think an even less proven OC will do better?

And even with Bienemy, talking about awkward. Tripped over ourselves to go after Ben Johnson and now coming back with our tail tucked between our legs? Incredible.

We may be the only ones still looking for head coach, but there are a number of teams looking for coordinators. All the teams with new HC's that need to build staffs, plus teams whose OC was just hired away, plus I think the Saints have an OC opening. And don't forget that teams can refuse to allow their assistants to interview for lateral moves.

Did a quick search for offensive coaches who are either on the street, on staffs where the previous coach was just fired, or for whom OC would be a promotion (along with most recent team):

Josh McDaniels (LV)
Greg Roman (BAL)
Ken Dorsey (BUF)
Shane Waldron (SEA)
Zac Robinson (LAR)
Jay Gruden (WAS)

So there are options but competition's going to be tough. At this point, ending up with Dan Quinn and taking a chance on a young guy like Zac Robinson from the McVay tree is probably our best case at this point.

You could also hire out of college. Some young guys with a high powered creative mind set.

There were several reports that Johnson wanted $15 mil per year. That’s the kind of money paid to head coaches with Super Bowl rings. Washington was probably wise not to overpay him.

Byron Leftwich was a hot name 3-4 years ago when he was calling the offense for Florida Brady and had Arians' full endorsement, and then fell off the map. I'd feel a lot more comfortable with him than a college coordinator. You can call up the college guy to OC but I'd be real iffy on handing over the reigns of a HC to someone who didn't even HC on a college level. They might be able to x and o the scheme but there's zero admin experience which is a full time job in and of itself.

Uninspiring. Seems like a RR redux. Aside from hiring Bienemy, this was the worst case scenario to me.

Not sure I'm buying the "Quinn is a pure football hire" narrative. Ron had a better W-L record than Quinn coming into this job.

Hopefully they get a young, innovative OC that thinks outside the box, and isn't a retread. Unfortunately it's so late in the process, those guys already have jobs.

I agree. I don't love Quinn as HC....but I don't completely hate the idea either.

From what I've read he's been very honest about what he did wrong during his first stint as a HC...and thats good.

But like you said, it's all about the coordinators.

I'll wait for the DC and OC hires to form an opinion. I imagine he'll try to promote someone he works with in Dallas on the defensive side and the OC will be a toss up.

Chris Long podcast - AFC has some absolute apex predators at QB so if you're an AFC team that doesn't have one, you need to swing for the fences just to survive. NFC teams can be built without having a Mahomes/Allen/Burrow/Jackson/Stroud. In a conference with Brock Purdy, Jared Goff, Baker, and Dak, Herbert would be the most talented qb in the NFC and he's not a top 5 AFC qb.

Commies, as an NFC bottomfeeder would get better faster if we traded down instead of taking big risks on high upside qb's. Take a swing at QB after the rest of the roster (O-line) gets beefed up - and it doesn't even have to be a draft QB. You can take a flier on a competent game manager in the Baker/Cousins tier. It's how SF is doing it. It's how the Eagles did it. It's what the Lions are trying to do.

Or beef up your O-line this off season between free agency and the draft and STILL take your high upside QB at #2.
