did I miss something earlier in the thread that would indicate that
OP will definitely be gone before we pick?
Isn't the issue whether CLE takes him and that ORL probably wouldn't?

To me the only two options for our pick is Porter or Bennett. Porter would be our SF of the future but if we draft him we probably lose Webster. I can't see him resigning to be a back up after his break out year. Bennett is the stretch 4 we always wanted and he plays with a mean streak. He kind of reminds me of Elton Brand. I can see him being great on the offensive end but not sure if he can play defense. A year behind Okafor and Nene could help him develop.

No, you didn't miss anything, Cleveland has been sending out smoke signals since the lottery. All signs point to them taking Noel, but who knows. There's only a week left.

KingofVA- Agree on everything except the Webster leaving part. Its a two man race in my book. Porter is still in the lead but Bennet is gaining ground. BOTH players fit a role and have upside - I'm ignoring the ridiculous sentiment that Porter, a 19 yr old who improved immensely between his freshman and sophomore year has limtied upside. Its a win-win. Only way you mess this up is by foolishly gambling.

Brand measured 6'8.25" barefoot and had a standing reach of 9'2".

I disagree. I don't think Porter would start as a rookie. And by next year, Ariza well be gone, so even if Porter starts then, there's still plenty of minutes available at backup SG and SF. Also, as Porter fills out, he'll probably stay playing some PF minutes.

Did we get Bennett's height after his visit here or just standing reach and wingspan?

The only thing i saw was Bennett's standing reach. I think it is safe to assume he is roughly 6'6" barefoot.

Agreed.
Wall and Beal started as rookies more because there was a dearth of talent
on the roster at those positions. With Ariza and potentially Webster as well,
that's not going to be a reason for OP to assume a starter's role, at least
not until he is outplaying the other 2 which would be a pretty good thing.
One of the earlier arguments you (and others) had against OP was that he would not
improve us right away which is a valid concern. However, both Webster and Ariza missed
time last year. OP is insurance against a steep dropoff in talent should that
happen again.

Heres the link to the pod cast that kanye found:

Noel talk starts around the 59 minute mark. Lots of speculation.

Bennett measured out at 11'5" in stilts.

Cliff notes for whoever can't watch the Bennett video: He's a beast. Just a monster. Definitely fits WizD's criteria of Explosiveness and Finishing Thru Contact (EFTC)

And even to this day, Brand is still a legitimate backup C due to his length & smarts.
If Bennett's reach was anything approaching Brand's he'd probably be the #1 pick in the draft inspite of any other flags.

The video is impressive and you can absolutely see the fit on the roster playing alongside Wall as a pick & pop player who can also attack the hoop off the dribble off a pump fake. He's unique in terms of his physical stature along with his explosiveness and skill level. The comps who have been provided based purely on meaurements don't really match what Bennett brings. I watched Rodney Rogers and I just don't see the comparion. I think Hot Plate physically is a comp, although Bennet is more of a score while Hot Plate had very good passing skills. Will Bennett's body be durable enough to take stay as explosive at that size while also taking a beating from larger defenders? its a tough question.

Rusillo: "I heard that Washington say that if (Noel) is on the board at #3, they won't take him"
Rusillo doesn't like Noel as a top pick either
1) Noel hasn't signed with an agent yet- he has blown off and ignored meetings with agents including World Wide Wes and he blew off one agent six times in a row.
2) He has a growth plate issue when he was a sophomore in high school
3) He's hurt with the knee
4) He doesn't have the skill set offensively like someone like Anthony Davis
5) Weight issues - teammates at Kentucky say that he was never 220.
1) Absolutely meaningless unless he's blowing off teams too.
2) Worth investigating thoroughly
3) Certainly that's the biggest concern. I wouldn't draft him until the docs got a good look at him.
4) We already knew that. But nothing stops him from being a Tyson Chandler like finisher around the rim. He's not being drafted for his offensive upside. If he ever develops a face up game with a mid-range jumper, that's icing on the cake.
5) I don't care what he weighed in college, he had a huge impact. I'd be more concerned about his ability to put on weight.
#1 is absolutely meaningless? I'm not saying it should carry huge weight but doesn't it concern you that he's not approaching this as a professional should?
Well for one thing, you don't know that any of this is true. Rusillo is a clown and, to this day, I have no idea how he's gotten as far as he has.
For another thing, not signing with an agent is not a sign of unprofessionalism. As I said before, Dirk doesn't have an agent and he negotiated his own contracts. We really have no idea how Noel ticks. I'm not going to write him off on silly, nebulous stuff like this.

Re: Official 2013 Draft Thread - Part VII
I don't care much EFTC Bennett has, I just don't believe you can draft a tweener so high. Then you add in the defensive effort, asthma, b-ball IQ and injury concerns and it's not even a question for me anymore.
I could live with Bennett if we had the 8th or 9th pick (and still not love the pick), definitely not at #3 though.
Some folks are saying we have to take a risk, we can't draft scared.... I said the exact thing 10 years ago during the Kwame draft. 10 years later, I'm saying we can't afford to get this one wrong. There's too much of a chance of being wrong on drafting Bennett. Too many things have to work out just right for Bennett to be the player some hope he is.

^I'd take Otto to reduce the risk, but I don't think Bennett (outside of health) is a huge risk. The tweener label should not be as significant with how the league is evolving and his perimiter skills. If he was limited to working 15 ft & in, I'd agree, but I don't think that's the case.

One is not like the other. Some statistical research showed Brand to be the top post defender in the NBA as recently as 2 seasons ago. Defensively, it sounds like the difference between Brand and Bennett is borderline ginormous, as the kids say.
