Glen Rice Jr. weights 252 lbs!? That *can't* be right. Last year, he was listed @ 206 lbs (which, frankly, seems about 10-15 lbs. too low).

That's gotta be a typo...right?

If not: we're venturing into Artest-like territory in terms of build. I can't see him playing much SG at that size; he's gotta go full-time SF.

Yep, almost certainly 225

Yeah, you're prolly right. Still: he does look pretty thick-legged in that picture. Some of those earth-bound, relatively "stocky" SFs are heavier than they look: Rick Fox was over 250 lbs for parts of his career as well.

Anyway, if you're right and he's actually 225 lbs, that still represents a 19 lbs jump from his previous listed weight. If he's trying to be a SG, that's a bad look -- he was already a bit slow as it was. But if he's trying to fill out to be a pure SF, then perhaps it's not so bad. He doesn't have the ideal length, but if that 19 lbs is coming from muscle, and not Twinkies, he'll be able to play some physical defense against other 3s in this league.

Agreed, and that he has a low post game will cause matchup issues for opposing 2s and 3s. Plus, the one thing I always forget until I watch him, is how good a defender he is.

Looks like Otto gained 7 pounds and is now 205. Keep eating Otto. Maybe he can start the season at 210.

1 lb a month should be doable.

I think he has gained 7 lbs in 12 months. So, it might be closer to next year, same when he hits 212. The following year would be 219 - close enough to Ariza's weight.

But strength and conditioning wise, he is probably still two years out.

I think he was like 205 at the beginning of last season, no? Hopefully I'm wrong. More then anything, he needs to stop skipping legs day :/ Needs like 5 chipotle burritos a day.

Yeah less than 1 lbs a month is terrible for a professional athlete. Or anyone really, even a complete beginner in the weight room. Either he's not lifting or he's not eating enough. Wouldn't put both past the wizards esteemed medical staff.

Looks like he started with Gortat just after the new year so if he hasn't let up, thats 6 months which is just over a lb a month which for sustainable muscle addition on a lean person like Otto. You want your body to be able to adjust to the lifting and weight gain without straining tendons or pulling muscles.

So he gained 7 lbs is 3.5% of is former weight in 6 months. If he keep that up, he should ends up at 210 by the start of the season. That would be pretty decent progress. Specially lean strong muscle. Then the training should help him to maintain that through the season.

He can come back at 220 next year. Not bad for the start of his 3rd year. Thats what Paul George is listed as at 24 and Otto would be 23.

Chipotle for his 5 meals a day. He was 198, May 20, 2013. I am sure the Wizards have assigned him a personal trainer and a chef, right? right? right?

And 1/2 lb per month should be sustainable over a 2-3 year period and still work on your basketball skills and conditioning. 1lb per month, no so much.

Rice is the one to benefit from Webby having surgery more then Porter.

Otto was going to get his burn as back up SF regardless. Webby was slotted for back up SG.

So these are the two young additions to the team this year. Both were injured in their rookie years. Otto with the hip. Glen with wrist surgery.

From there, round the team out with some more vets and add one, maybe two red shirt rookie that will be ready for next year.

If you consider them integrating Otto and Glen this year, its not likely they try to rely on two more rookies in addition to them.

Not sure how to label Kevin if they bring him back.

Every day that the presumed typo re: Rice's weight goes unfixed, I become more convinced that Rice may turn himself into a thick-legged, barrel-chested Artest-type player. Let's see if he can play some bully ball out there during summer league.

He's pretty muscular, so 252 is actually very realistic.

hmmm, Gortat is 240 - I could see 225 but not 240 and not 250

Now I really want to know - put that kid on the scales.

My foster son. Did great work out there. I like his interviews too, this kid has an earnest open attitude, seems happy to be here, but puts in the work at all points. Likeable guy. Like a Nick Young but with a complete game and a serious side.

I told you guys, Rice was worth a 1st round pick last year. Nate Wolters or whoever else we could have drafted won't have this kid's upside. The only other guy I wanted was Pierre Jackson but unfortunately he tore his achillies in the Orlando summer league after showing out in the NBDL last year.

I love what I'm seeing from GRJr. Just keep telling myself that Summer League is pretty much a glorified DLeague, and Rice has already been a D League All-Star. But still, that kind of aggressive approach on offense, with the shooting stroke (imagine the looks he'll get with Wall feeding him) - could be a really nice addition.

Dat - I was not impressed with the draft pick, especially given that they had to give up 2 picks (whatever..) to get him. Mostly, I was concerned about the maturity issues. But I'll be glad to say I was wrong if he can carry this up to the real games.

He needs some minutes, hopefully him showing out like this makes Wittman change his rotations a bit and allows Beal to rest more. Rice should get 10-15 minutes per game.
