Yes, Webster can probably start at SG, but he's better at SF IMO and Ariza will need to play some 4 so Webster will be needed at the 3. I guess Porter getting healthy could mitigate that somewhat, but we need a shooting guard. Even something like our expiring scrubs for a guy like Brandon Rush or Anthony Morrow to get a warm body in there.

Brandon Rush is with the Jazz where he's getting no burn at all -- maybe he hasn't recovered from last year's injury?

He can play, not a bad player at all. Love to have him -- if he worked out, great, he'd be our next Martell Webster, someone saved from the trash heap.

At the same time, he's 28, so he's not someone whose acquisition really helps the team down the line. So, in that sense, nah... I wouldn't love to have him. We have too many bandaids already.

Still... he's expiring, I mean so what? If we could get him for e.g. Singleton and Seraphin? Yeah.

Morrow, no. Is he even in the league right now, btw?

Hello Wiz fans. Bulls fan here, and as some of you may know, most of us are in favor of tanking the rest of the season. Seeing as you guys are a near-lock for a playoff spot (IMO), would you consider the following deal?

Bulls trade: Luol Deng

Wizards trade: Trevor Ariza, Jan Vesely, Chris Singleton, 2015 top 10 protected 1st round pick

I think it's a deal that makes sense for both sides. The Bulls trade their best player (with Rose out), which will make them worse for the rest of the season in all likelihood, while they gain a future asset. The Wizards gain an All-Star SF who plays about as good as defense as you can on LeBron and Paul George. He would also be a great mentor to Otto Porter Jr. I personally think a starting five of Wall/Beal/Deng/Gortat/Nene is easily the 3rd or 4th best in the East, and could possibly push Indiana or Miami in a playoff series. Deng is a free agent after this season, however, so take that into consideration.

What do you guys think?

I think you should GTFO with that nonsense. Deng is vastly overrated and I don't see the point in swapping Ariza for Deng straight up. We don't need him. He's been an awful floor spacer this season. And actually thinks he's entitled to 11+ mil per year. Keep him. For the umpteenth time, the wiz aren't giving up anything of value for Luol Friggin Deng.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I thought it was a good trade for both sides but apparently it's not. Perhaps I've overvalued Deng, or undervalued how you all feel about Ariza. Either way, judging by two "hell no" type of responses, I doubt the majority of you would be inclined to do this. Back to the drawing board, I suppose.

Anyway, good luck with the rest of your season!

truth be told you came in here very cordially, so don't take any offense but we've been offered deng a lot and he is simply redundant with this roster. He isn't considerably better then the production we're getting by Ariza and Webster. Who are also cheaper. Unfortunately such is the case with the rest of the Bulls roster and us. Noah is a better center then Gortat...but I don't believe he is multiple picks+expiring better. Boozer has negative trade value...and Taj...eh I think he's a little overpaid for a bigman, but he's the one guy I think CHI ought to hold onto if they're going to nuke their roster. Wiz simply aren't a good trading partner for ya'll. Cle is in need of a SF, they're prolly a better bet.

Best of luck to rose!

Thanks. No doubt Deng's a good complementary player who's helped win a lot of games and will continue to do so. But the 3 point shooting - around 17 percent this season - is the deal-breaker from the get-go.

One Deng trade involving the Wizards that might make sense would be something like:

Bulls out:
Deng

Bulls in:
Ariza
Karasev

Cle out:
Varejo
Karasev - or maybe a protected 1st and filler

Cle in:
Deng

Was out:
Ariza

Was in:
Varejo

Ariza is probably good enough to keep the Bulls in the play-off hunt. This sheds a ton of salary for the Bulls and almost gets under the luxury tax. I think Ariza works better fit-wise than a direct deal with Cleveland.

If he came to the Wizards, I think Deng would be more of a stretch 4 than a 3. Unfortunately he really isn't a good enough shooter to fill that role well.

If EG hadn't "taken out the trash" for Phoenix in the Gortat deal, I think an Ariza/Deng swap could have yielded the Wizards a nice incentive. It gets the Bulls within striking distance of being under the luxury tax. I would try to get the CHA pick(protected top 10), but would even settle for Snell or the Bulls protected pick.

I saw someone else propose something similar in a different place.

My reaction is that, while I like Deng, and a Wall/Beal/Deng/Nene/Gortat starting five would be really good, it doesn't make enough sense for the Wizards because Deng is too expensive.

It would end up being a less than one year rental because we couldn't afford to keep both Deng and Gortat this summer. Not unless both took way less than their market will probably command.

Also it's a bit of a lateral move because we're getting a SF out of it, where we already have too many bodies. Ariza + Webster + Porter. Our biggest needs are finding guard and big man help on the bench, where we are awful.

And also, Deng can score and defend, but he's not a knockdown three point shooter. A reliable three ball is one of the top priorities for a SF to complement Wall. It'd be nice to have Deng's individual scoring ability, but we'll get enough just out of Webster's spot up shooting.

The timing for the deal doesn't work out unfortunately. It would have been a nice deal last season, before we picked Otto Porter and extended Webster for four years.

Yeah, with Vesely playing pretty well lately, it's ostensibly dealing two rotation players for one.

We really don't have much flexibility to make moves right now with so many guys injured. Pretty much anything you can think of leaves us undermanned in the present.

Interesting thought on Ariza for Sideshow V. I know people would criticize the Wiz for getting another highly paid over 30 injury-prone big, but he's a valuable player when healthy - and would help in rebounding and defense - 2 issues the team has had this season. Of course, it would mean giving up any hope of going after a max contract free agent this offseason.

And Cleveland fixes their huge SF hole temporarily and gains major cap flexibility next offseason.

Good luck to you guys too! I'm a long-time Wizards (aka Bullets) fan -- but I was born in and grew up in Chicago, so my shadow favorite is always the Bulls.

I certainly understand your wanting the Bulls to acquire cap space, young players, and draft assets. But, in truth, the Wizards are not in a place where a good veteran like Deng pushes us up enough to be worth acquiring.

In fact, just like you, we should be trying to acquire youth and flexibility/assets for the future.

Cleveland wouldn't have that much cap flexibility. To have cap flexibility, they'd have to renounce Deng (and his cap hold) and decline their option on Bynum. I'm iffy on this deal. Varejao's production is way down, particularly his rebounding. He's not just old, but incredibly injury prone. I think it's too risky.

I would want to see a healthy/productive Porter and Varejo before doing this deal. Varejo's injury history is a bit scary, but one thing that helps is he is only guaranteed 4 million next season. If you use the stretch provision(not saying they should), that can be chopped down to about 1.5 million.

^ I'd also want to see if Vesely can keep his recent play up. If so, we could probably keep him for much cheaper than Verajao to do a lot of the same things.

In his analysis of the Derrick Williams acquisition, Kevin Pelton of ESPN Insider wrote:More than the deal itself, I'm encouraged by what this move says about how the Kings view themselves. My fear was that under new ownership, Sacramento would be in a hurry to contend, and thus hurt its future in the process. Instead, the Kings seem to have gone the other direction, dealing Mbah a Moute for a younger player just months after acquiring him over the summer. The West is so deep right now that Sacramento basically has no choice but to stay young, try to improve its habits under first-year coach Mike Malone, and to stockpile assets for a point when (hopefully?) it will take fewer than 45 wins to make the postseason in the conference.

Potential trade partner here.

If Sacto wants to stockpile assets, they need to clear cap room (so they can do BOYD deals to stockpile those assets). While we can't offer much in the way of meaningful assets, we can offer expiring contracts in exchange for players that can help our bench.

Isiah Thomas and Greivis Vasquez both have qualifying offers next season. I doubt Sacto extends both this summer, so there's a decent chance one gets traded (rather than playing under the QO whereby they could then veto any deal next year). I don't want any part of Carl Landry or Jason Thompson's contracts, but Marcus Thornton for a year wouldn't hurt too much.

I'd gladly trade one of our young expiring bench bigs for Thomas and Travis Outlaw ($3M next year). Probably not enough salary relief for the Kings, but I'd explore a ton of scenarios with them, including those involving a third team so that we can send out Ariza and get a rotation big back.
