Yeah, this thread involves so much cherry picking.
Since Christmas, Queen is averaging:
10.4 points
8.3 rebounds
4.7 assists
2.9 turnovers
46.8 2P%
17.6 3P%
49.0 TS%
His team has been outscored by 110 points in the 472 minutes he played in this stretch.
For comparison, our own FRP, Tre Johnson, has averaged over the same stretch:
14.7 points
2.2 rebounds
3.0 assist
1.5 turnovers
50.5 2P%
39.6 3P%
58.6 TS%
His team has been outscored by 82 points in 491 minutes played. And his teammates aren't old enough to drink. And Tre is 14 months younger than Queen.
You can always chop up sample sizes to tell the story you want.
I like Tre Johnson, but the notion that Derik Queen is not good is laughable.

The ROY is just about playing time and counting stats, not efficiency or defense.
In college the knocks on Queen were that he couldn't shoot and was lazy on D. Same story in the pros.
You don’t know in-advance what kind of pro player he will be, you don’t. We all have to see how it pans-out over the coming years.
That's true of any player.

So I am cheery picking when I post his season averages? That's funny coming from someone making a big deal about one game.

In January the PeLs were -9.7 with Erik on the floor, +4.7 with Missi. Cant imagine why since Missi's numbers on offense are so lame.

Queen's defense looks better last few games. Coaching staff is asking him to be more vocal, use his high bball iq to see what's developing and call out switches in advance. "Pre-switching."
I've watched a lot of pels games and I'm flabbergasted at how bad Zion's defense is. No wonder their defense is so bad when they're both on the court. Coaching staff has to figure that out.

The PeLs are 1.8 pts per 100 possessions worse with Erik on the floor. I wonder why.....

On the positive side Erik is shooting 21.7% from 3. He's trending up

3 steals and a block in his last game as well. I’m not sure how he is doing it given all the clips I’ve been seeing of him defensively.

Do you understand what on-balance means?
I know your focus is on finding negative data while excluding the positive. The fact is that he has several historic milestones as a rookie, your trolling will never erase them.

On balance he is a net negative on the court for a team with 13 wins. He plays help defense like a guy in a chair and he can't shoot. Not a great combo in today's game.

Random Pelicans thoughts-
Zion seems checked out in the last couple. Philadelphia announcers were wondering if he is bothered by the trade rumors as he only had 2 points in the first 3 quarters of the 76ers game although he had a relatively strong 4th quarter. Also put a relative dud on the box score. If Zion doesn't score more than 25, they usually don't win. They only gave up 100 points yet Zion only scored 14 on 13 shots while only making 4-9 free throws against the Hornets.
Zion has yet to make a 3 this season. With Queen already being a poor 3 point shooter, that leaves the burden to Murphy, Jones, and Bey. Bey is shooting close to his worst season at 34% from distance although is shooting better lately with some strong performances against teams like the Knicks and 76ers. With Poole now riding the bench, the Pels need more 3 point shooting. Alvarado is only at 35.6% (whenever he makes a couple of 3s he has Kyle Kuzma syndrome and jacks up a heat check 3) . Fears is sub 33%, maybe he gets better over time given his age but Pelicans might be up there with the worst point guard rotation in the league.

Playing on a bad team has an impact on a players net/plus rating. You focusing only on weaknesses is cherry picking, and doesn't negate the positives.
By your logic, Alex Sarr should have been traded, he had a negative net rating his first rookie year as-well.

Queen is actually older than Sarr right now and Sarr didn't stand still with his hands down watching guys shoot layups right in front of him.
I don't remember anyone hyping up Sarr as a rookie but I see that a lot with Queen. People like yourself completely ignore his inability to shoot and his Matador D. The fact that Erik has his own thread on a Wizards board just shows how over hyped he is

Hype has reached national levels for sure. He was the 4th pick in the rookie/sophomore draft by Vince Carter with both T-Mac and Melo both groaning when the pick was made given that they both wanted him on the team.
The length of this thread is not necessarily that he's overhyped but rather he is the most polarizing player. IE the longest and most engaged threads on social media are those arguments on the color of the dress. Not really exciting to keep posting about Kon and Cooper(who has a similar plus minus to Queen but also significantly younger).
