Wiz deserved to lose but I'm surprised at the lack of freak out regarding Sessions getting that shot off with 1.1 seconds to go. In our building. In 1.1, Bogut can catch it, pass it to Sessions, and Sessions can collect and get it off with 1.1 to go? Really? Is that even possible?

Putrid defense throughout. Complete suck on the D glass. Steve Javie - destroyer of basketball games, No energy, no hustle, can't bother themselves to battle for a loose ball here and there, totally casual, no Haywood for the critical stretch of the 4th when the lead evaporated.

blah, blah, blah... I'm going to go kick the cat and try to get some sleep.

Agree with everything you said. I'll just add one more thing...lack of any killer instinct. We've seen it many times over the last few years. The Wizards always play down to their competition. A true contender would have put the Bucks away after going 10 points up in the 4th, but the Wizards, as usual, let a poor team back in the game. They deserved to lose.

There is so much that was so wrong about last night's loss:

* The injuries were just flat out unnecessary. Jamison isn't diving into the stands, DS isn't stepping on feet, Caron isn't slamming his wrist into the floor, IF WE JUST KEPT OUR 10 POINT LEAD HALFWAY THROUGH THE 4TH and closed out the game.

* The reason we didn't close out is putrid D down the stretch. Eddie Jordan did not call a timeout, didn't chew out his guys, didn't do anything I could see to arrest the momentum.

* Some people round here are pissed Arenas was in the game at the end. I have no problem with our star being in. But I can't believe he so egregiously blew his defensive assignment, doubling down on Bogut who was 18 feet from the basket guarded by our best big man. He left Sessions wide open, and the dude killed us.

* That was one of the longest 1.1 seconds I've ever seen. But it was OUR timekeeper, in OUR building who somehow stretched time allowing the Bucks to inbound, catch, pass, go up and shoot a regular J, all in less time than it takes for me to cross my legs.

Grrrr....

Stevenson will keep playing. Dude is tough as nails. I'm much more worried about AJ's injury.

Yeah, it's that lack of a killer instinct that worries me the most. As much as I like this team, and we do have at least two tough guys in CB and DSteve, the Zards really need a player or two who will inspire the rest of team to step on the other team's throat when it has it on the ropes, especially a mediocre team like the Bucks.

why we lost:
Jamison decided to jump into the stands for no good reason
Stevenson tripped over his own feet and pulled a Buck onto him

but seriously, those to 'should've been' fouls would have been AT LEAST 2-3 points. I'm no math whiz, but i'm pretty sure that we lost by 2 points.........

so there you go, 2-3 strikes again

2-3 instances that didn't happen including the clock
.2-.3 seconds before the clock started
2-3 times the scoring average last night for that SOB Sessions
19-13 on game threads

Bring em on, as long as we play defense, and just put in Gil as a scorer off the bench....he would be an amazing 6th man right now if we use him that way.

Uh, he's a video doctor. Duh! You know, like when Bill Frist diagnosed Terry Schiavo from the floor of the Senate after watching a few seconds of video. It's like that. Both Frist and Hands11 are video doctors.

Or...Bill Frist and Hands11 are THE SAME PERSON!

Dentist perhaps?

Arenas certainly didn't help the defense, but he also didn't hurt it much. After beating Dallas on Jan. 21, the Wiz season defensive rating (points allowed per 100 possessions) was 105.6 in my tracking spreadsheet*. After last night's game, the season average had risen to 109.2. Since that day in January, the Wiz have permitted opponents to score 113.2 pts per 100 possessions -- which would rank DEAD LAST in the NBA this season. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Arenas was not on the floor for any of those games until last night.

The Wiz defensive problems have returned with a vengeance over the past couple months, and the return is not attributable to Gil. Unless Gil was somehow hurting the team's defense while sitting on the bench.

* -- There are minor differences between my spreadsheet and the numbers posted at basketball-reference.com. This is because we use slightly different approaches to calculate possessions. Justin uses the method described in "Basketball On Paper" by Dean Oliver. I'm using the formula presented in a recent paper by Dean, Dan Rosenbaum, Justin from b-r, and another author whose name I'm forgetting (might be Roland from 82games; Kevin Pelton was probably part of it too).

I have to disagree with the Jamison part. If Daniels had hustled instead of slowly jogging toward the ball we would have secured the possession and either time would have expired or we would have had 2 free throws. I don't see how you can blame Jamison for putting the ball in play and getting injured due to hustle.

Very interesting to note that at the end of the ATL vs Toronto game, the shot-clock guy started the clock too soon, resulting in the Raps losing at the buzzer. That game might result in a re-do.

AD was hustling, He was just beat to the ball by a quicker, younger, smaller man.

I think Jamison made the right play. There's also no way AD could have gotten to that ball. Maybe 10 years ago but not yesterday.
