Vesely...
Why doesn't Grunfeld ever do anything other than stay pat and take his "BPA"? The guy is so boxed-in with his approach to drafts. He needs to think outside the box and take a risk every now and then. Everything is so safe with the guy. Never tries to move up, but he'll trade a lotto pick for Mike Miller. I don't get it.
I generally agree with your point of view here, except that in this particular case, it's not potentially happening this way because Ernie is a boxed in thinker, it appears to be happening this way because Ernie wants the draft to come to him because he's got three big guys he wants if his #1 guy is off the board, and as long as a point, or a surprise guy goes in the top 5 that isn't Irving, or Williams, he's going to get the guy he wants.
Essentially, it sounds like Kantner, Jonas and Vesely are all ranked virtually identically on the Wizards draft board, if they are, that explains the disinterest in mortgaging McGee, or the 6 and 18 for a guy that they see as virtually no different in value to Vesely or Jonas. This all could change if no point, or strange guy gets picked between 2, and 5, and all the big 3 are selected before 6, in which case clearly Ernie's bummed, and the question is, would that situation (almost certainly predicated between decisions at 3 or 5) stimulate a deal up, a deal down, or an acceptance of the fall back of Leonard or TT at 6?
