What causes this kind of weird thinking I wonder? Booker is a #23 pick who has turned into a solid, above-average producing NBA player at the 4. But we should package him w/ Singleton, a #18 pick who had trouble in a very atypical season to be a rookie (no work w/ team), in order to get a single pick somewhere in "extra 1st" land (i.e. post-lottery, probably in the 20s) where we can pick who...? that your are so sure will be better than Booker? So... I guess you didn't read the stats posted a bit before your post that showed Beal with a much *higher* % than Barnes? And, oh, it's Barnes who has demonstrated he can't create off the dribble. Not Beal.

We would have to be reasonably comfortable with drafting Barnes for the Sacramento Gambit to work. I think the odds are pretty good that Charlotte drafts Barnes (UNC connection) or Drummond (highest max upside) at #4 before taking MKG, but the potential does exist for them to take MKG.

I'm not even sure I would pull the trigger on the deal myself. But I'd definitely talk with Sacramento so that the threat to Charlotte is credible. As far as Sacramento's assets, there is their #36 pick, or they could agree to a Blatche for Garcia swap.

Yeah, but they can still call our bluff. And if it is just smoke - are we really going to take Robinson just to spite Charlotte? But maybe that's their plan. See if you can follow:

- CHA trades down to 4 and pick up the 24 in the process
- WAS then says "if you want TRob, you gotta deal with us"
- Ted/Ernie see an opportunity to unload Blatche withoug using the amnesty
- WAS trades Blatche+3 for Diop+4, cutting cap and still getting MKG

In that scenario, Charlotte still gets their man and essentially gets the #24 in return for taking on a contract (similar to the DET trade, only this pick is immediate because Blatche's deal is longer). It's essentially a 3-team BOYD trade.

Of course, they'd have to really want the #24 to take on Blatche but anything's possible.

Which you seem to think Barnes will be -- for no particular reason. Or do you mean to be arguing for MKG? Or maybe even for Drummond?

Thing is, every team "needs a star player." The Wizards need to take the BPA at 3 and 32 if those are their picks. To succeed in the draft, you need to be better than other teams at knowing who that is. That's the skill -- not swinging for the fences on "potential." In '08, Ernie took McGee #18 and the Bobcats took a French center, Ajinca, at #20. Then at 24 Presti took another French big -- Serge Ibaka.

Who made the best use of his round 1 pick in that group of GMs? Ernie swinging for the fences on "potential?" Or Presti?

What does me comparing Beal to Hayes have to do w/ a Barnes v. Beal shooting percentage comparison? And neither player proved they were effective of the dribble last yr. Its not one or the other...

If true, it looks like EG's psy-ops gambit was successful. I like how the press release actually mentioned teams interested in the #3 pick specifically for Thomas Robinson. That was the tell that this was really a message to Charlotte.
