Big Commitment at Big Show for Terps
H.D. Woodson (D.C) defensive back Parnell Motley gave his commitment to Maryland coach Randy Edsall tonight after attending the Terps' 'Big Show' recruiting event. Motley had been more strongly considering several others schools until a recent surge by Maryland, which grabbed its 14th commitment when the local cornerback committed.
Motley, a three-star prospect, chose Maryland over offers from Michigan State, Rutgers, Clemson, Georgia, Miami and others.

Robert Carter Jr. could be a factor in Maryland basketball’s NCAA title hopes
Robert Carter Jr. was on edge during a pickup game earlier this month, running around an empty Xfinity Center with his Maryland basketball teammates as if he were playing in front of thousands of fans in the middle of the season.
“We gotta get a stop!” Carter screamed as the game came down to the wire, a loud and almost desperate command from the transfer player who has quietly remained in the background for much of the past year.
In that time, Maryland enjoyed a basketball renaissance and transformed itself into a national power with a headline-grabbing offseason. The Terrapins returned to the national rankings and the NCAA tournament. Blue-chip center recruit Diamond Stone and Duke transfer Rasheed Sulaimon joined the program, and standouts Melo Trimble and Jake Layman announced they would return for the 2015-16 season rather than enter the NBA draft. Carter’s arrival from Georgia Tech, a bright spot in a 2014 offseason notable for concern over the state of the program, was overshadowed.
But Carter’s time on the sideline could be the key to his own transformation.
He improved his physique and found his voice during a sometimes lonely year of patient discipline as he sat out under NCAA transfer rules. Already known as a freakish athlete with an NBA future, Carter also has a mean streak and a blossoming maturity that could help Maryland Coach Mark Turgeon deal with chemistry on a roster loaded with individual talent and facing gaudy expectations
President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

16 for ’16: Biggest Steals
2. Dwayne Haskins, QB, Maryland - Talking one of the nation’s top QB recruits into staying home means early playing time, very early, for Haskins and the first sign of hope for Maryland in a while. Randy Edsall went from 2-10 to 4-8 to back-to-back seasons of 7-6 at College Park. Landing Haskins means improved local recruiting and the type of franchise quarterback this program hasn’t had in a while. Haskins has silly good accuracy and the knowhow to play almost anywhere nationally. He had the offer sheet to prove it. Opting for the Terrapins was a gigantic steal.

This is the BEST EVER Maryland roster, as far as I'm concerned. I go back to McMillan, Elmore, Lucas, Mo Howard, etc. Lefty almost had everything but there were always programs like UCLA, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Louisville, Notre Dame, and Indiana that had as good or better athletes.
This particular Maryland team has 4-6 guys who will play in the NBA.
Stone, Trimble, Sulaimon, Carter (I think he's perhaps better than 5-star recruit Stone), Layman (I believe he's a round two pick), and it wouldn't surprise me if Nickens gets a cup of coffee in the NBA. Stone will be a 10-year pro, at least. Dowd's got the athleticism. Cevosky has the perimeter game and size. Easily 4 NBA players on this team...
I think the Terps have 3 first round draft picks...at least.
This season might be a disappointment, because I think they may not win over 25 games. Last season they won 28, but they were senior-heavy, very lucky, and guard-dominant.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Re: Official Maryland Terps Thread 3.0
Blake is a legit 6'2" or 6'3" and he looks really small compared to about 6 Terps. Jared Nickens has filled out nicely. Robert Carter looks like a beast!
http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/terps/tracking-the-terps/bs-sp-terps-kyle-tarp-20150729-story.html#page=2
I think Melo Trimble needs to be bigger. He should play at 195 and use his shoulders and his weight to score better inside. He's not explosive.

Director of basketball performance Kyle Tarp gets Terps ready for highly anticipated season
http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/terps/tracking-the-terps/bs-sp-terps-kyle-tarp-20150729-story.html#page=2
Tarp's impact
Melo Trimble: Weighed 202 pounds and had nearly 19 percent body fat when he arrived last year. Now weighs 183 and has 8 percent fat. Biggest goal is to make him more explosive going to the basket.
Jake Layman: Weighed 189 as a freshman.Dropped from 205 to 194 by the end of his junior year (last season). Recently weighed in at 216 by increasing caloric intake. Has improved his bench press and dead lift totals by increasing lower body strength.
Robert Carter Jr.: Played at around 255 at Georgia Tech and is now at 235. All of his strength numbers increased dramatically to where he is the strongest player on the team and one of the strongest Tarp has ever trained for basketball.
Damonte Dodd: Has increased his weight every year since he came to Maryland. Started at 235 and is now at 253. Is second only to Carter on the team in terms of strength.
Jared Nickens: Mark Turgeon thought about redshirting him when he showed up at 177, but a 7,000 calorie per day diet, which included a daily protein requirement, got him as high as 208. Now 205 and working on foot speed.
Dion Wiley: The sophomore guard's weight has fluctuated depending on work ethic, eating habits and playing time. Came in at 220, now at 210, with a goal of 205. Conditioning and athleticism on the upswing.
Michal Cekovsky: Not only did Cekovsky come to Maryland because of Alex Len, their numbers are nearly identical. . Both came in at 219 as freshman and weighed 252 the summer before sophomore year.
Ivan Bender: Like Len and Cekovsy, the 6-9 forward from Bosnia also came in at 219 and is now at 232. Limited early because of a knee injury, is now getting back to full strength and starting to resemble the player he was in Croatia.
Jaylen Brantley: Junior college transfer weighed 175 was he arrived in June, but is now down to 169 after Tarp "tightened" up his nutrition. Still getting used to the weight training regimen.
Numbers are not yet available on two players who are expected to play major roles, freshman center Diamond Stone and senior guard Rasheed Sulaimon. The 6-10, 250-pound Stone arrived two weeks ago and the 6-4, 195-pound Sulaimon won't be on campus until late August after graduating from Duke.

Re: Official Maryland Terps Thread 3.0
Of course Trimble wasn't explosive - he was fat and out of shape. 19% body fat on a PG is totes craycray.
That's interesting about Bender - I thought he was really skinny. Somebody has to be the odd man out up front - between Bender, Dodd and Cekovsky. I assumed it was Bender, but at 232 and having international experience... Also, his younger brother is expected to be a lottery pick next draft.
