The Simonsound -- "Tour de Mars" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3BWuXFCrcU
AMAZING reworking of Kraftwerk's "Tour de France"! The trippiest, electro-funk inspired joint I've heard in a looooooong time.
And their equally dope cover of Jimmy Castor Bunch's "It's Just Begun": http://thesimonsound.bandcamp.com/track/its-just-begun
This song had Grandmaster Caz jumping out of his chair and rushing the DJ booth when Rockin' Rob was spinning during a Crotona Park Jam in the Bronx this Summer.

Pitbull, love those recommends. But, you linked a deer tick video in place of the simonsound. No worries, I looked it up and love it. Thanks.

Re: Resurrected unified MUSIC thread.
My musical interests are much different than most of you guys. Parliament Chocolate City was out in the late 70s BTW. One contemporary artist I'm very familiar with is named Mystikal. I didn't realize he's been imprisoned for 6 years already -- and was released today.
Sounds like prison really changed him.
Here's what Mystikal said upon release for sexual battery and extortion:
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE60J5QZ20100120
What? This is what Mystikal was like before prison:
WARNING: Extremely explicit lyrics. DO NOT PLAY THIS if you're easily offended, around front of kids or elderly, or in a public place.
Shake Ya Ass
Funny thing is this guy had to go before a judge having been accused of a sexual crime after making that video. Oh yeah, dude let fame get to his head. Guilty indeed. As for the song Shake Ya Ass, the hook's catchy but I sure didn't know all the lyrics ... til today.
Nastiest song I've heard, pretty much.
**Gilbert Arenas needs to do one thing Mystical said, and that's not be foolish because he's successful.**

"I think we have to pay more attention to what we are doing to ourselves. We gotta take responsibility for what we do too," he said. "That's the easy excuse. We have to tighten up and not blame others. You can't be foolish especially when you're successful."

That song's been the story of my life, particularly with Mrs CCJ ....
Why must I feel like that
Why must I chase the cat
Nothin' but the dog in me
Bow-wow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah
Bow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah
Bow-wow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah
Bow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah
barelyawake, that song really takes me to back in the day. For the young guys, the reason that song played for 10 minutes is there were house parties where guys and girls basically grinded the whole song. I remember during winter sweat would be coming off the walls back in the day--no shootin' and not too much fightin' but a whole lot of everything else.
As far as George Clinton, way back in the day one of my sisters ... uh, knew a lot of musicians, Parliament included. Somehow, in some afterparty she even introduced my churchlady mom to George Clinton. I didn't ask any more about THAT ....

Re: Resurrected unified MUSIC thread.
Here's a blast from the past. I was there (but missed this part) for Motor Booty Affair in 1979.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCgthG5s ... re=related
Back in the day the Capital Center had a lot of groups come through like Gap Band, Cameo, and Parliament Funkadelic to name a few. The festival style concerts were awesome. I didn't get high, but you almost couldn't help but get a contact high ....Just say no, I'm not endorsing drugs ... just saying people got F'd up and they'd just gracefully fall out but folks would catch them before they hit the ground and keep on grooving.
Anyhow, the afterparty for this concert is the one I was speaking about above. Nope, I went home and went to sleep--wasn't into afterparties and was just turning 18.

cool song. reminds me of four cornered room by war. always really liked the parliament songs that revealed their old school soul and harmonizing roots. like testify fantasy is reality and all your goodies are gone
since it's looking like a 70s funk and soul night. So by War is such a beautiful melancholy love song (that's been removed from youtube http://popup.lala.com/popup/360569470942675056)

Mortality Pie, "I'll Stay" is tight! Real nice, timeless, slow jam.
Here's one from way back that I remembered the title of, but hearing it again it's an awesome instrumental jam. If you like Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Slash, etc., they've got nothing on
Eddie Hazel.
Maggot Brain
Sadly, Hazel and a lot of Funkadelic fell into serious drug problems.

BNDC, War has some sort of feud between the group currently calling itself War and those from back when. I have tried to find some of their jams on YouTube before.
So by War sounds a lot like a Johnnie Taylor or Sam and Dave old school blues jam.

Re: Resurrected unified MUSIC thread.
Random YouTube clips that I visit on a semi regular basis to get me through the doldrums of the daily grind at the office:
Eminem "freestyle" on TimWestwoodTV
The Avett Bros. covering "Glory Days"
RATM - Bulls on Parade live ---skip to 1:30 for the live act
Obadiah Parker's acoustic cover of "Hey Ya" by Outkast
Dude, that Mat Weddle guy from Obadiah Parker must get tons of "Thanks a lot Bin Laden"/"I didn't know they gave rings at the Holocaust" jokes every time they play. Guy probably hates Zach Galifianakis more than Michael Bolton hated Michael Bolton in Office Space.

Re: Resurrected unified MUSIC thread.
Some love songs I knew and loved from the 70s. Play these songs and you might just get some. Or, if you're a real old fart you'll remember when you were getting a lot.
Donna Summer, Love to Love You
Donna Summer was and still is HOT. That song is just pure sex.
Minnie Ripperton, Lovin You
Minnie Ripperton had more range than even Mariah Carey. She died far too young. "Come to My Garden" is another great song of hers. Just a beautiful voice, full of life.
Rod Stewart, Tonight's the Night
The lyrics were suggestive and it was very fitting for what was going on in HS. Hellacious lyrics!
Teddy Pendergrass, Turn off the Lights
Heatwave,Always and Forever This was a song all the girls had to slow dance to.
The lead singer, Johnny Wilder Jr., suffered total paralysis due to a car crash in 1979. Here's a nice tribute to him. http://www.heatwave72.com/remember.htm Heatwave was one to the all-time greats that had tragedy to him and another member who was stabbed in the heart. (Wiki)
Chaka Khan, I Feel for You I loved to watch her as much as to listen to her back in the day.
Cheryl Lynn, Got To Be Real Another very sexy voice--sounds a lot like Chaka Khan to me.
And back in the day I listened a lot to WPGC, and it had Top-40 hits from Pop to Rock to Soul. I loved this song ...
Starland Vocal Band, Afternoon Delight
Back then life wasn't as complicated. Musical groups IMO were much more talented than today. Romance was much more pure. Women weren't the hunters per se back then. Everybody IMO seemed a bit less preoccupied with worry and fear, and love was all around.

The lyrics were suggestive and it was very fitting for what was going on in HS. Hellacious lyrics!
Stay away from my window
Stay away from my back door too
Disconnect the telephone line
Relax baby and draw that blind
Kick off your shoes and sit right down
Loosen off that pretty French gown
Let me pour you a good long drink
Ooh baby don't you hesitate cause
Tonights the night
It's gonna be alright
Cause I love you girl
Ain't nobody gonna stop us now
C'mon angel my hearts on fire
Don't deny your man's desire
You'd be a fool to stop this tide
Spread your wings and let me come inside
Tonights the night
It's gonna be alright
Cause I love you girl
Ain't nobody gonna stop us now
Don't say a word my virgin child
Just let your inhibitions run wild
The secret is about to unfold
Upstairs before the night's too old
Tonights the night
It's gonna be alright
Cause I love you woman
Ain't nobody gonna stop us now
Teddy Pendergrass, Turn off the Lights

Starland Vocal Band, Afternoon Delight
Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
gonna grab some afternoon delight.
My motto's always been; when it's right, it's right.
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night.
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day.
And you know the night is always gonna be there any way.
Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight.
Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
looking forward to a little afternoon delight.
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite
and the thought of rubbin' you is getting so exciting.
Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight.
Started out this morning feeling so polite
I always though a fish could not be caught who wouldn't bite
But you've got some bait a waitin' and I think I might try nibbling
a little afternoon delight.
Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight.
Please be waiting for me baby when I come around.
We could make a lot of lovin' 'for the sun goes down.
Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight.

didnt realize it was that bad. i knew there was something up because they havent toured as a full band in years. i thought it was just something between those that wanted to still tour a lot and those that didnt. kinda sad, having seen both i gotta say that with the full band theyre amazing live but only ok with the rump band.
lol. afternoon delight. at least theyre local.

barely, ever hear of (and can you find) a John Lee Hooker track called something like "women and children"? Haven't heard it since a bad drug experience in college, but remember it being hard core.

Hastily thrown together (not cutdown to the single best cuts and without good transitions). But, here's your jazz break a couple days early (since I'll be working on Sunday).
