Even though I'm not a Mack fan (not a hater either, just sort of in the middle) EG has gotten great value in the 2nd round. I feel like the Wizards organization isn't as on top of D-League call up potential as some other teams, and the Spurs come immediately to mind. As I said, this stuff is mostly at the margins, but slow to the draw can hurt in other areas too.

I know you're kidding hands, but I'm being totally serious. if you ever find yourself a defendant in criminal court, whatever you do, DO NOT take the stand in your own defense. I'm saying that as a friend.

PS: I've been assistant night shift manager for a loooooooong time. You loose.

We could make the same arguments that he's signed all these players out of nowhere. Grunfeld has been nothing short of great with 2nd round draft picks. Michael Redd, Andray Blatche, Domimic McGuire and now Shelvin Mack.

Gerald Green has 10 years of NBA footage that shows that he has sucked. If the lightbulb went on, it's not Grunfeld's fault for not foreseeing that would happen all of a sudden. If anything, Grunfeld's flaw has been being overly patient with players so the Gerald Green complaint holds no water.

Green (drafted in 05 out of HS) was in the NBA for 3-4 years before going overseas.

McGuire, Mack & Blatche great 2nd round picks? Are you sure you want to go-there?

The better organizations do not limit themselves to finding players in the draft only do they? Linn and Green being the most recent examples.

I am not usually an EG apologist, but I think he does alright at the bottom of the roster. At least in terms of having a roster of players who are or potentially can be legit NBA players. I think the most significant criticism of his management of the bottom of the roster is not utilizing the D-League. I think he makes up for that with getting contributors pretty consistently from his 2nd round picks.

The 2 significant problems are the lack or talent/skill among the starting line-up and the lack of a cohesive mix of talent. Previously there we Wizards suffered from a lack of defense, now there is a lack of outside shooting and rebounding.

EG hasn't addressed the lack of rebounding for years and years. He drafted two guys who neither shoot it reliably well nor rebound well. Singleton showed a bit of three point shot recently. However, his calling card to the NBA was supposed to be his defense. He is a poor defender. That being the case, he is a very ordinary SF at best. Vesely is tall but he cannot rebound in traffic and he is a woeful shooter. Grunfeld has passed on drafting too many shooters and rebounders. Grunfeld has reached a bunch on length and athleticism. Potential over production has been his tendency. Ernie rates at best a C- on this past draft, but probably gets a D.

For Ernie's recent moves that have improved the team, Nene qualifies as a defender who can shoot the ball. Forgetting the long run and his injuries, he is a step in the right direction -- totally opposite of how I feel regarding the long haul of the deal. If Nene is able to play as he has done so far for the next 2-3 seasons, that is with intensity and with patience with young teammates, he will be an asset and a huge hit for Ernie. Seraphin is turning out to be a good pick, as is Booker. I don't think either of those guys will disappoint in the long run as Blatche, McGee, and Young have turned out for EG.

I wonder if EG will be around to do this draft, since rumors suggest otherwise.

montestewart

Since you appear to be sincere in your advice. Thanks.

But I fail to see the grounds for which you base that advice. I mean we are talking about your interpretation of what I post on a sports BB. Seems you are taking a huge leap.

That said, I would never take the stand without the advice of conceal.

I guess it all depends on how involved Ted is. The scouts are in place. I'm sure they already have their reports and strategies. EG is good at execution. Maybe Ted would feel more comfortable with someone who he has already worked with.

But if they are changing to a new GM, you would think that GM would want input on who they draft.

Look at how the "great" 2nd round picks EG has made have turned out under his GMship. He re-signed Redd to a max contract that devestated the franchise. He re-signed Gadzuric to a long-term contract Milwaukee regretted for years. He re-signed Blatche to a long-term contract that... fill in the blank. Maybe he should just be a scout.

One thing I think most people here are at least somewhat on the same page with is EG's franchise management. Talent-wise, Blatche was a great find at his spot, as was Redd, but you're right, they didn't turn out so great in the end. EG does have an eye for talent, but I don't feel good about him continuing as the one that puts it all together.

List of the best free agent execs. Out of that list, I'm gonna go with Weaver from OKC, Buchanan from Portland and Lindsey from the Spurs as my top 3 guys.

Some interesting behind the scenes glimpses of what it was like being on the Wizards team during Gilbert's time here.

I agree the Wizards need someone different to build a play-off team.

A team that might be able to use EG as GM is the Atlanta Hawks. They have a financial mess with the deal of Joe Johnson, but they are too good to really blow it up. So this means they have to hit some home runs with late 1sts and 2nd round picks.

Arenas got in the middle of an argument he didn't have any business joining in, as he was trying to get Javaris to respect a teammate. He made a dumb gesture bringing the guns. In retrospect, he paid for his mistake and is fortunate he kept his contract. Now he's in the league on a good team that appreciates him.

I owe Gil an apology for speculating that he owed Javaris money. After reading this, it seems he just argued with the wrong fool.

One point I remember you making at the time is the danger the Arenas put himself in(and anyone possibly in the locker room). Arenas' explanation does make it seem like an argument(more than a joke) that got way out of hand.

Is it possible for us to get weaver as final decision maker and have Danny Ferry work the books and hire the coaching staff and trainers. I think that would be an optimal solution for this upcoming draft and offseason. I see EG making picks with a flawed longterm vision of the future of how to build a deep playoff team. Does anyone else see us not being able to acquire weaver and danny ferry at the same time?
Build your team w/5 shooters using P. Pierce Form deeply bent hips and lower back arch at same time b4 rising into shot. Elbow never pointing to the ground! Good teams have an engine player that shoot volume (2000 full season) at 50 percent.Large Hands

Anyone catch this today?
In an odd twist of fate, the NBA is in another lockout-shortened season, and Grunfeld finds himself in the final year of his contract as president of the Washington Wizards. With the Wizards (14-44) headed toward their fourth consecutive lottery appearance — and needing to win one more game to avoid the worst winning percentage in franchise history — several NBA executives and scouts have speculated that Grunfeld will not return to serve as architect of the rebuilding efforts.

One prominent agent said the Wizards job would be highly sought after if it became available and that there is “no way” Leonsis can bring back Grunfeld.

“Look, it’s a tough job,” the agent said. “But he’s had his shot.”
