It would be nice, but McGee growing up is unlikely IMO. And besides that, having another option at C might mean Witt continues to play Nene at PF too much. If we're going to add a big, I want it to be a PF so there's no doubt that Nene is our backup C.

I'd be fine with giving Javale a minimum contract as long as we get a team option for a 2nd year minimum. If he has the desire to prove people wrong, he can be a nice asset and much needed depth up front.

It's on! We also have no idea how our PF minutes will be distributed

Are the Magic not starting Gordon at 4? I thought he was slated as the starter.

Didn't Gordon get hurt play-wrestling with his brother or something? I remember seeing a weird story along those lines about a month ago and having a SMH reaction.

That's the current thinking, but not all of us are sure it's going to work. It's hard to tell how much weight he's added, and the jaw injury might affect his ability to keep weight on this summer. Can't wait to find out!

With Dallas signing McGee, Famous or Tyler should become available, I would sign either of them to cheapie deals.

I have three sons. If one of them comes up with a broken jaw... let's just say I'm not believing the first thing I hear if they say they were "horsing around".

Okay...Sure, since that's their story and they're sticking to it. What kind of horsing around results in broken jaw? :dontknow:

I liked Drew Gordon coming out of college. He was in the same draft as Thomas Robinson, and I thought he'd be just as good as TR. But Gordon went undrafted and has played in Europe and more recently in the D League -- played very well too.

Of course, it turns out that "just as good as TR" doesn't, in itself, mean much! He had a cup of coffee w/ the 76ers last year.

As to his little brother Aaron's broken jaw -- here's hoping he comes back in a hurry!

http://www.csnwashington.com/basketball-washington-wizards/talk/john-wall-organizing-wizards-minicamp-next-week

John Wall organizing Wizards minicamp -- for this week

Speaking with CSNwashington.com Saturday, Wall revealed he organized a minicamp for his teammates that begins Sunday in Los Angeles. He expects the group together through Wednesday.

"All the guys are going to come out," Wall stated.

His organizational skills don't stop there. The two-time All-Star also said he's encouraging players to arrive "two weeks early" for the team's official training camp next month.

"Now is my time," Wall explained. "I’m setting up all these things. Making sure guys are getting to training camp two weeks early. Make sure we’re playing pickup, getting into shape, doing those types of things. That’s what I’m willing to do and have some fun with it."

"Just trying to get my body all the way healthy," Wall said. "Doing a lot of my stuff to get my legs stronger. Just preparing myself to take on a bigger role. I think going into my sixth year, this is the time to really take the biggest leap."

* There wasn't a roll call to confirm if indeed the other 14 players were indeed headed to Los Angeles, but during the conversation Wall inferred Drew Gooden, Kris Humphries and Nene are expected.

* Southern California native Jared Dudley, who is recovering from back surgery, certainly won't be playing even if he shows up. However it sounds like the Wizards will have other big men shooting from deep. Wall said he's heard that the big Brazilian has been working on his 3-point shot. CSNwashington.com learned from another source that Humphries is also putting in extra work this summer from beyond the arc.

* Wall also expects some of the coaching staff will show in Los Angeles, including player development assistant David Adkins.

* He declared his left wrist "perfectly fine now." Wall injured his hand and wrist on May 3 in Game 1 of the playoff series with Atlanta, missed the next three games and then returned for the final two. No surgery was required. Though he admitted to some "weak points at times," Wall said he could now dunk and handle all the standard point guard duties.

* As for USA Basketball, Wall said he appreciated the opportunity to remain part of the working roster. He recognizes the challenge with making the 2016 roster considering how many stars are contending for 12 spots. There's also the lingering disappointment after being cut last year before the 2014 World Cup. "Going into this year, it’s an opportunity," Wall said of Team USA, "but my main goal is focusing on the Washington Wizards."

Are there any other teams that have had player-organized minicamps? It seems to almost be the norm now with QBs and receivers in football, but this is the first I've heard about an NBA team doing it. Shows Wall trying to take on leadership and build some team comeraderie.

I like the overall message that sends, but I'm a little concerned with the injury risk. We've got some old guys on this team, especially the bigs. Making the season a even longer for them might not end up playing to our advantage.

Just saw this and I know the Pels did one as well as OKC. Durant, Westbrook, and Ibaka set one up w the new coaches in LA.

Even though you can only see a little of Adams in there, it's obvious he's the physical specimen there. Sorry Westbrook.

Yeah, and not sure who the 2 small white dudes are all the way on the right, but they gotta feel tiny in there. I assume they're coaches/staff members or something.

I share your concern... If Blair comes into training camp out of shape again, taking Webster's and Dudley's back injuries and it is going to be tough for Wittman to limit player's minutes - extending the season might not be wise.

Maybe it should be an extended yoga/myofascial release get together.

Most of these guys are working out and playing pickup games somewhere throughout the summer. So holding an "organized" minicamp with coaches, and probably trainers, on hand actually lowers the injury risk.

I liked Drew Gordon, too. I hope If he's good enough and the right opportunity comes up that he at least gets a chance to play in the league.

Another player with very similar circumstances is Ronald Roberts. He didn't get drafted but he really plays well. I could see him being a useful player. He is years out of college but might have a shot to make the Raptors.

I'm always happy when undrafteds persevere and find a way to break through. Few make it.
