Probably not. In terms of pure value I guess he could, but the Wizards are a win now team, they don’t want picks or players that need development over finished products.

Was thinking of it more as a theoretical than practical possibility. I think it would have been a lot more likely if the Celtics had not done the Irving deal.

Huh, the Celtics just drafted Tatum, why would they add so much salary for a player with a similar skill set?

Who would we give up Porter for?

Boogie? Tatum? Millsap and picks?

He does look like he is poised to improve again this year. He looked pretty assertive yesterday.

... and another trade question.

I’d love to see the early line on this... which mediocre rental will Ernie target at the deadline for which picks?

I’ll start. This year’s first for Patrick Beverly.

Nah, EG is going to have to try and clear the tax for Ted. Mahinmi is the obvious dump. Lowe even made a prediction stating as such.

We all know EG hates draft picks.

What about this deal:

Wiz trade Mahinmi+Sato+Frazier+2018 1st+2020 1st for Bledsoe?

We clear the lux tax, while the Suns continue to stockpile picks. We are in win now mode, and Bledsoe (who is BFF with Wall) would be an ideal 6th man. Bledsoe is also signed through next year. We'd need to scour the waiver wire for a backup big, but Mahinmi is unplayable in the post-season with his non-existant offense anyways.

Hmm. Bledsoe could bring us to another level.

I think it is the type of deal you do if the Cavs implode and it looks like an upgraded Wizards team can make the finals.

What we generally have seen however are moves aiming to slightly increase the floor(i.e. not missing the playoffs). Where I would Se EG doing that deal would be if Beal or Wall were projected to miss extended time. That would be the worst situation to deal from since the picks have a good shot of being mid firsts if not lotto.

if we could give them Smith+filler instead of Mahinmi, then I might do that, but opening two 1st round picks when we are going to be capped out for a long time for a year and a half rental of a bench player that can't play next to our star player sounds pretty dumb to me. We would have to play ALOT of small ball, 3 guard lineups.

the Mavericks are a team that has the right amount of cap space to absorb Mahinmi. I'm very confused about the Nerlens Noel situation and the whole trade restriction thing with him.

but if you could do some kind of deal centered around dumping Mahinmi+picks for Noel and JJ Barea, I would do it in a heartbeat. just go ahead and waive Frazier afterwards.

Ok, this has to be the dumbest trade idea in a long long time.... Give away two R1 picks for a guy who will play off the bench. WOW!!!

Holy moly!!!! That amounts to Barea for "picks" -- tho I'd rather have nerlens than Ian. But not by that much!

This deal might interest me if Bledsoe was under contract past 2019. But he isn't. He'll be a free agent in a year and a half and we won't have the luxtax room to keep him. So we'd be sacrificing two 1st round picks for a 1-and-a-half year rental.

I'd be real intrigued by this deal if we could also manage to trade John Wall for Anthony Davis. Our long term future:

PG Bledsoe
SG Beal
SF Oubre
PF Porter
C Davis

?? If you were going to waive Mac, who can't play after all, why would you wait to waive him -- & pay him most of his season salary?

In any case, if Felix & Mac have guaranteed salaries, I don't think you can remove them from your cap/tax total by waiving them.

If they get rid of Mahinmi at the cost of even 1 R1 pick, & Ernie survives the debacle, it will put the finishing touches on the worst set of GM moves (2016 off season) I've seen in the last 2 decades (maybe with the exception of Billy King's debacle trade w/ the Celts).

The source I'm using says that Felix is not guaranteed and Mac is only guaranteed for $50,000. If that's the case, they can be cut later in the year and their cap number would be zero (in the case of Felix) and $50,000 in the case of Mac. I'm actually surprised that they haven't already waived Mac.

Eric Bledsoe literally just tweeted “I don’t wanna be here”

I think we should make a move for him. Mahinmi+2018 1st rounder for Bledsoe

If that's all it takes, then sure. We save $2M and get a massive upgrade. If we can slip Tim Frazier into the outgoing package, we'd save $4M. And in a worst-case scenario, we could easily offload Bledsoe this summer without having to sacrifice any additional picks, so it would be no different than sacrificing a 1st to dump Mahinmi's salary.

I have a hard time believing Phoenix can't get a better offer though. Teams like Milwaukee, New York and Denver would probably give up more than that to get a quality starting PG.

Yea. If he goes anywhere I think it's New York. Kanter + a lottery pick gets it done imo. I would say Milwaukee could compete with Greg Monroe's expiring, but I don't see Phoenix being concerned about cap room right now.

I will say I'm not above giving up 1sts at this point. I think early 2nd rounders can be more valuable than picks in the 20-30 range. I'd like to see these guys get in the business of buying picks.
