I guess that's Price for the starting job until Wall gets back!

Seems like this would have been a fun game to watch.

Price with 17 points, 11 assists, 4 rebounds with 3 made threes in only 25 minutes had a great game.

The defensive perimeter play by the Wizards must have been real good. Monte Ellis and Brandon Jennings usually kill the Wizards.

Beal had his shot blocked 5 times--that's a trend that bears watching.

Strong game for Jordan Crawford. He shot 7-15 and had 17 points, 5 assists, 2 steals with 3 made threes.

Wizards never have more than one or two home preseason games because of the start of the NHL season and the horse show at Verizon Center.

Really wish Beal had a strong veteran in front of him. I know Ray Allen was never coming here but somebody who could teach him how to get his own shots within the flow of the offense. Crawford had a good game tonight but he's not a starter. Not sure Beal is at this point but he's our best option. But a guy with that kind of shot should get more than one 3-point shot attempt.

Barring a minor miracle, it looks like A.J. Price is definitely the starter. He's playing with a lot of confidence right now. And if Nene is not ready to come back, Booker starts at the 4.

Vesely has 5 fouls in 19 minutes off the bench? And four turnovers? Was Webster hurt? He played just 7 minutes last night. I know he was banged up last game. Maybe Wit just wanted to get Cartier some run. Shame that Stephen Gray didn't get a shot in preseason.

I didn't see the game, but I understand that Ves spent some time at Center last night, hence the hacks.

From T. Ferguson on the Bucks website who seemed to either attend the game or stream it:
"Booker lit up everyone who was ever on him - Tobias, Ersan, Dunleavy, Larry, Monta"

Who in the hell made this schedule. Only one home game. Actually I think its good. Winning on the road is something they need to learn to do if they want to make the playoffs.

Create match up to see them against MIL. That is one of the team they will need to beat out for a slot.

Now is the time to start building some momentum that takes them into the season opener.

Before the season starts, I'm looking for a big game from Booker, Webster and Beal. Something in the 20s from each of them.

Playoffs? PLAYOFFS?!?!?!

Nene still doesn't know when he'll be available, the season starts in 11 days, and you're talking PLAYOFFS????

Yeep. The goal this year is playoffs. Now they might not get there but that is the goal. There is a 7th or 8th slot open in this conference and no clear team to fill it. And injuries happen to other teams as well.

So one down from my list of players I was looking to hit 20 or more before the season starts.

Booker cranked it up. Two nice games from Booker so far. Everything is wide open on this team. Booker could easily start the season as the starter at PF. Now they have to get Beal rolling again and get Kevin S back.

Randy is spreading the minutes around and trying to keep the injured player rested. Plenty of players to look at so why push it.

I think most of us are seeing the same writting.

Price, Beal, SF ??, Booker, Okafor
I'm still not sure if Trevor A will start there but they are clearly giving him a chance to take it. We will see them figure it out the next two games. If Trevor A start there again next game, looks like they will go into the season with him as the starter, but that mean very little. I think SF will change around as they see fit.
Nice win over MIL and good to see them break 100 pts while hold MIL to 92.

We will see. Obviously it is an option down the road when they have more players healthy.

Lots will depend on how much better his handles and outside shot look.

Lots of player on this team obviously have lots to prove but they do have some young talent capable of stepping it up.

Beal is going through some major adjustments as team as adjusting to him as well. Lots for him to learn this year but I expect him to be solid most nights.

Trevor A and C Singleton combined numbers were pretty good for the SF slot. Add Websters outside 3 range and they may have a decent 3 headed monster at SF. Even without considering Booker or Martin there.

Its a mix and match roster that should be fun to watch as Randy works it out. There will be lots of 20-25 min players each game. They will play a deep roster all year so vets and younger players all get minutes.

The way I'm seeing it, Ves should get very few minutes this year. Okafor, Seraphin and Book should share 96 minutes when the season starts, and when Nene gets healthy, the team should not even think about playing Ves. Bad pick at #6 but maybe he can improve his shot after another off-season. Hope springs eternal.

This x1000

Honestly I would prefer Ves go to the D-League for a bit this year to get stronger and put on more muscle mass

The way I see it, the Wizards better hope like heck Okafor or Nene play enough to get some other team to want them in a trade. It is bad enough to burn a number 6 pick on a marginal player, but even worse to displace a young player who has some chance to improve with an older player who does not and who will not help this team make the playoffs, despite making $13-14M.

Vesely will get no better on the bench.

CCJ - why do you say that Nene and Okafor won't help the team make the playoffs? They are proven, productive players over a period of multiple years. Our front line will be very good this year barring injuries. Ves has a long way to go to achieve that status.

I question how many games Nene will stay healthy and I don't think Okafor is all that good. He has played in a total of 6 playoff games over a 10-year career, popper. If both guys are healthy 65+ games, sure, they should really help the Wizards. I don't see it happening, however.

Okafor is not worth 14M a year.

I don't think having depth or veterans to play around the rookies justifies paying that much for Okafor and Ariza, who is just as overpaid IMO.

popper, the Vegas oddsmakers predicted 31 wins for the Wizards. They are experts and big money rides on what they predict. I am not saying anything that the consensus of knowledgeable prognosticators are not also saying.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wiz ... milwaukee/

Milwaukee was playing most of its regulars, which should leave the Wizards (2-4) encouraged about what they will look like when Wall and Nene return. Wittman tried several different lineups, using Vesely at center with Chris Singleton (eight points) at power forward and letting Crawford run point guard on the floor with Beal. During a critical stretch in the fourth quarter, Wittman played Cartier Martin, Brian Cook, Shelvin Mack, Crawford and Singleton.

“It’s good to see what you can do, because it’s going to come up at some point, foul trouble, somebody fouls out,” Wittman said.

He closed the game with Vesely and Price on the floor and they didn’t disappoint. Vesely was involved in two sequences that tested his resolve in the final minutes.

First, he got tangled up with former Virginia Commonwealth standout Larry Sanders and smirked as Sanders got in his face, challenging him. Then, he drew a foul and was sent to the free throw with the Wizards clinging to a 95-94 lead with 1 minute3 seconds remaining. Vesely knocked down both free throws and explained afterward that his goal in both situations was to stay calm.

“I just did my best to stay cool and make them,” said Vesely.

I agree on the health issue and no question Okafor, and Ariza especially, are overpaid. You and the Vegas oddsmakers are probably right but if we can stay healthy ( a big if, I know) I think we compete for a playoff spot. Maybe I'm dreaming.
