So that contender can go into the toilet too?

At this point, Jamison could only go to a contender as a bench player and there aren't many teams that want his services especialy since he's not a good defender and isn't that efficient at 3. Plus he's overpaid as it is.

Unless the Cavs are willing to take back a longer contract, Jamison might not have any value in a trade until next season when he is expiring.

Howard couldn't cover up Lewis's deficiencies who IMO is a better defender.

Big night for Gil last night in Orlando's loss to New Orleans:

4 points, 2 assists, 2 rebs and a steal in....wait for it.....FOURTEEN minutes off the bench. Ryan Anderson played 21, Redick 34.

Yup. I was going to post that last night but I wasn't in the mood to deal with Ace Degenerate. Although, I suppose we've reached the point where his venomous diatribes are more funny than annoying.

Pace-adjusted per-36 numbers since trade:'

Code: Select all

Player           PTS  REB  AST  STL  BLK   TO   PF eFG%  TS%  PER
lewis,rashard   12.6  7.7  3.4  1.2  0.8  1.9  2.6 .526 .547 15.3
arenas,gilbert  15.3  4.4  6.3  1.9  0.5  4.1  3.7 .441 .458 10.8

(Note, my PER calculation is slightly different than that of basketball reference. I'm not sure what day they used as the official trade day: the day that Arenas played for his new team or his last day with the Wizards. It makes a slight difference because league data affects the PER calculation.)

The lingering sentiment from the people who actually watch the Magic play, not the box-score haters we have here, is the same thing I said when Arenas was traded to Orlando. He needs minutes to be effective, anybody thinking Arenas was going to be a productive 6th man obviously has not been watching his career.

The one game he got significant minutes he produced better than anything Rashard has done for the Wizards.

Yeah, let's keep watching those box scores guys!

I agree, I've taken to putting most of this forum on my ignore list and I find that the things I read are much more in line with my own opinions.

If only we could get an ignore button for reality! Oh wait..

Maybe Flip Saunders is a better coach than Stan Van Gundy :D. I wouldn't really judge the merits of this deal right now- this trade will ultimately be judged by what happens in the postseason.

But given that Orlando is 8-2 in their last 10 games and they were struggling before the trades, they aren't even breaking a sweat. Fact is Lewis would have been useless in a matchup against the Celtics since KG owns him. Heck even Glen Big Baby Davis hits game winners with Lewis guarding him.

Mike Miller hit his first (and second) three of the season after missing his first eight three point attempts as Miami lost to the Bulls.

During the Lakers/Clips highlights, I was surprised to see Randy Foye nailing a clutch 3 point basket with around 3 minutes left. Interesting to note since the Clippers must have been utilizing a small ball lineup of Davis, Gordon, and Foye during the final stretches of the game. Even with bigger options in Gomes and Aminu- and the young rookie in Bledsoe, Vinny Del Negro went to Foye probably for his 3 point shooting.

So, was Caron the glue to the Mavs success? The Mavs have been in a tail-spin since he went down, even after Dirk returned.

I bet Foye was in there for his FT shooting too. He's money from the line.

I think Chandler has missed some time recently too. I bet that's a bigger reason.

At the end of the game, I think I saw Tyronn Lue at the end of the Magic/Celtics game in a suit talking it up with Jameer Nelson and Dwight Howard, who were happy to see (or the alledged Tyronn Lue look alike). Lue is currently not on an NBA roster.

IIRC Lue is an assistant

Gil Arenas is really hurting the Magic right now. He needs to sit. And I might be OK w/ Duhon getting his minutes later.

Otis Smith went overboard trading for Gil. It would have been fine if it was just Hedo and Richardson.

The Magic saved 5-6 million with the deal this year since Gilbert's deal is 2-3 million less expensive this year than Rashard Lewis's contract. I believe the Magic took on more salary this season when taking on Hedo and Richardson. This is weird deal not because who is involved but guys have stepped up in the respective players absences (Nick Young and Ryan Anderson) while the Wizards are actually getting a contribution from Lewis. Then again, Lewis may not be a player that can win you a championship when playing significant minutes as indicated by the numbers that Corey Maggette put up.

I also think part of their plan was/is to turn the backcourt over to Gil down the road. They might not pay to re-sign JRich and Jameer Nelson is probably their most tradeable contract. If Gil somehow turns it around and start playing well, I would fully expect them to re-do the roster to have hm as their starter next season.
