Re: Official Not So Random Thoughts Thread Version 2.2
I just spent a full year busting my ass studying Chinese, including spending my entire summer vacation taking 3 hours a day of 1 on 1 classes here in Beijing, for what ended up being a ten minute phone call/chinese conversation test. I'm pretty sure I passed, but what a ridiculous imbalance of time spent preparing and time spent executing. I can only imagine how Olympians feel...

I'm really proud of Ron Artest. It's one thing to be batshxt crazy, it's another thing to know you're both batshxt crazy, admit it to yourself, are able to work on your issues and are blessed to be successful. Then to reach out to help others without the opportunity, that's the strongest virtue of fame, that you can reach more people, stand as a symbol. It takes a heckalotta balls to admit your issues on an international stage then reach out for help, and reach out to help. Tru Warier indeed.

+1
Best moment of the NBA playoffs was Artest thanking his psychiatrist in the post game interview.

Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

Yeah, props to Ron. I bet he decided to do it and got all excited immediately after he thought the idea up. He sounds like a guy with a big heart but who, and hopefully this remains past tense, had a lot of negative distractions.

Doc, I am EXTREMELY PROUD because I can honestly say he's a kindred spirit.
I don't know what I'm going to donate, but I love my therapist and my doctors, and I'm no longer ashamed of admitting to taking medication. A lot of people are afraid of what they don't know and even more are afraid of what they think is "crazy". Ron's a complicated guy but aren't we all.
I know one thing FOR SURE. Ron Artest has worked hard as hell and he's learning to listen to good advice. It isn't easy what he's doing and it's great the man doesn't care who thinks he's crazy.
Personally, doc, I can admit a bunch of stuff but I'm not driving around in public in no mini-formula one car.

Seriously, I think he's just having fun for shock value. He knows folks already wonder about him and he's just egging them on.

Tomorrow I'm going to the zoo with a girl I met this week. I hate heights and I HATE the escalator at Woodley Park metro. Time to grow a pair.
Also went to the gym today in the longest time. The community gym we have in my apartment complex is really nice. The old one I visited had too many jersey shore juiced up wannabe's.

If you don't mind waiting, take her to Open City on Calvert (right off the corner w/Connecticut, a couple doors down from Chipotle). If you're looking for something cheaper, you can opt for CalTor and YogiBerry in CLeveland Park. Work it......

Well so much for that. Two hours into our day, she asks me if I would ever consider converting to her religion down the road and I flat out said no which pretty much made the day super awkward.
Also, congrats to any JMU alums or current students. Big win for you guys. I think the Frank Beamer era is coming to an end at VT. Program needs an overhaul.

W2L: Good job though, you used the only tried and true technique in the male courting repertoire: going after it.
Keep doing that and you will have your rewards.

It's very unfortunate what happened with Kolb, but Green Bay is firing on all cylinders. I am really looking forward to the Redskins vs Cowboys game tonight. Chris Johnson picked up where he left off last year. My favorite game of the day though, Texans beating the Colts, that just put a smile on my face!

Very surreal, W2L.
Same day as your date a lady I knew when we were both 14 and back then kissed each other before she moved away (but who's now an attractive PhD and single mom who still shares the same humor we had back in the day) told me she thought only our religion seemed to be different. Oh, and that she's sorry she talked about phone sex (but she didn't take back the word love) as I'm not completely divorced yet.
My thoughts: I certainly won't believe what she believes but I certainly won't stop our friendship from developing. Lust busting friendship is good enough. Non-judgemental love (agape kind) doesn't get bogged down in religiosity.
I don't know about somebody trying to force their views. I'm not getting into unequally yoked when nobody's even hitched up.
I'll just take it slow ...
I just thought it's weird because essentially my (older) girl said she's not sure but I seem so convicted in what I believe that might rule her out for me ...

I guess coming out and logging a few minutes in the NBA qualifies one as a "basketball star" these days.

Found out I passed my Chinese exam for the foreign service. Barring a disaster (like failing my ongoing security check), I'm pretty sure all I have to do is wait for my name to be called and I'll be getting sworn in by Hillary Clinton sometime next year!
Sadly you'll see no more unofficial posts from me on the world politics thread, although I haven't posted there recently anyway.
