Serious growing pain time for Wall one way or another.

Tough love from Randy and Beal and straight talk with a leaders professional touch from Webster. That is what he just got.

Wall just needs to except that he is what he is and maximize what he actually is. Should be interesting to hear how they describe the team. When is the last time anyone has hurt the organization describe this as Walls team ?

Hopefully he can find a way to play efficiently out there between now and the end of the year. That should be the teams main focus. If he can do that, then they can move him for value. I just don't see how it is going to work out for him here if this was his team and he was the #1, and now it is becoming Beal team.

It would be totally different if Wall was arriving on the team today and all that is here was already here.

Once he have recaptured his value, trade him for a top 10 first and get as many of the following as you can muster up: Victor O, Otto, CJ McCollum, Michael Carter-Williams, Trey Burke, Jeff Withey, and Doug McDermott, Michael Snaer as you can get.

Just not sure Wall would bring much more then a top 10 but if he can really crank up his efficiency, maybe he gets you a top 5.

Sorta summarized my thoughts on Wall at the blog.

Basic summary: It's time to be worried about his game and what the Wizards should be thinking about with him.

I don't care about the jumper. Well, I do, but my main issue with Wall is how clueless he appears in the half court set. Yes, some of that can be attributed to how lax defenses play on him forcing him to shoot, but if he's not in transition he's a pretty awful distributor as well.

We've seen Rondo be able to be prolific in the half court without a jumper. It can be done, but if Wall doesn't know how to keep his dribble alive in traffic at this point in his basketball career it's probably a lost cause.

There is simply too much fundamentally wrong with his game to invest any more time or, god forbid, money in him. Too bad EG isn't smart enough to realize that.

Walls failures are 25% him, 75% Coaching

Post#66 » by Dark Faze » Thu Feb 28, 2013 10:36 pm

The number one reason why Wall hasn't developed is because he's been taught to avoid the things that he's not good at.

Flip just wanted the winning plays that would lead to a better record. Wittman seems the same.

And there's proof because Wall isn't encouraged to work on his defecencies. Walls 81% FT shooting shows he has the potential to be an average shooter if not better, but he's never going to improve because he runs away from every aspect of his game thats bad.

Have we ever seen Wittman or Flip pull Wall out of a game for not taking wide open jumpshots or threes? Never. Wall thinks its a bad shot. It'll stay a bad shot forever if he doesn't work on it in game. Flip and Wittman enable this by not calling him out on it.

I guarantee you if Randy pulled Wall for not taking the open 3 more often or taking the open jumpshots or look to finish on drives instead of passing out he'd be a much better player than he is now.

And a lot of people are responsible. Randy for being awful, Ted for keeping him on instead of hiring better coaching, and even the media for not calling Randy out.

What are your thoughts on this? I scream at the TV when Wall passes up wide open shots. The first two years were development years for him while he didn't even develop. How can coaching allow that?

If he sucks as a shooter, he should not be shooting open jumpers. It's on him to improve as shooter. Maybe the team should invest in some shooting coach to live with him and make him practice 24-7, but otherwise it's on him to apply techniques he's taught to become better.

Coaching has to steer him towards applying that in game though. He shouldn't be allowed to pass up bad shots. We're not going through 3 lottery years while building around him just so he can avoid developing. He shouldn't get away with how he's been playing.

Wall needs to learn how to shoot. That's mostly on him, not the coaches, because of how humans learn skills. It's not by having a coach holding his hand, it's by constant repetition.

You'd be on better ground with the turnovers thing, except even that's something Wall can address by studying defenses and increasing his knowledge of the game. Better coaching could/would help, but this is something Wall should be able to do on his own.

Tangent: This is why people should be able to major in Basketball, if they want.

A wide open jumper near the free throw line is a good shot. He should take it. If he hits 80% of his FTs, why can't he hit a wide open jumper from the same spot? His confidence is destroyed.

John "Because He Jumps" Wall

Shoot a set shot then. He's wide open. Honestly a pull up jumper from the foul line is one of the easiest shots in the game. Look at Westbrook.

I agree he has that I'm going to prove everyone wrong attitude and its hurting his game. He has to stop launching up jumpers that's not his game. He not making smart passes he can also move the ball around sometimes I think he try's to do to much to live up the everyone expectation of him being a high draft pick.

Just like the Lakers sucked because Browns system, I mean wait, D'Antoni's system. Yeah, that's right, coaches fault. Can't blame Dwight, or Nash, or Gasol. I don't see how we reconcile "a players league" with "coaches fault".

What I see with this is more excuses. Wall has had every excuse in the book. First he's playing with knuckleheads, then he doesn't have any shooters around him, he's been injured and is rusty, now it's the coaches, oh now he needs a stretch four to really open the lane. Bull, bull, bull, bull.

Look at Kyrie. Guy plays with just as much trash as Wall did in year one and two as Wall and he's going to be an All-NBA player this year. If Wall wants to become a good player he'd put in the time. If he wanted to work on his jumper we'd hear stories about him opening up verizon at 2am so he could shoot jumpers like Gil. If he wanted to become better conditioned, which is clearly an issue, he'd go to one of the zillion high intensity training centers during the off-season like Attack Athletics. If he wanted to lower his turnovers he'd tighten his handles and learn to play under control. Instead we hear how he chums it up with his bro's at YMCA courts catching alley-oops making and-1 mix tapes!

The problem with blaming coaches is he's been a professional for 3 seasons and hasn't improved a lick. He's been the exact same player since his first NBA game and even if his coaches were bad, great players excel in spite of bad coaching. Lebron's coach for 6 years was Mike Brown and he's a complete clown. Walls been so bad he's losing minutes to AJ freakin Price.

Wall's failures are completely on him because every excuse we made for him has been used up. He's on a team with great spacing. Two great three point shooters. He's on a team with zero knuckleheads. He's on a team with a great inside post presence. He's on a team that plays great defense. I literally see no reason why he can't succeed with those circumstances. If Kyrie were on this team instead of Wall the Wizards would be the SECOND BEST TEAM IN THE EAST. Legit title contenders. With Wall they're also-runs.

Wall is becoming Jason Campbell 2.0. Washingtonians made more excuses for him and never realized he was a total bum. I'll admit, I loved Jason Campbell as a person, but he stunk. People cryin how he needs a better o-line, he needs a faster RB, he needs more WR weapons, he needs the defense to create TO's. Weak. He was suck and the second he left town he stunk even more. It's time to trade Wall for the best offer available.

Except for his rookie year Rondo has been a much better shooter than Wall. He was also surrounded by HOF players who can all shoot, giving him more room to drive.

How can Wall be an awful distributor when he has a career average of 8 assists on teams that can't shoot? His problem isn't that he is a poor distributor. His problem is that he doesn't take good care of the ball and forces the action too much.

Wall is Jason Campbell 2.0? Um, we can't come up with a better comparison than that?

Campbell was a slooooooooowww big ol country boy with a huge arm and unfortunately the inability to read defenses quick enough in the pocket. Just seemed to process things real slow.

Wall is a blur who's speed is as much a gift as it is a curse. He talks a million words a minute and seems to play the game faster than everyone, including his own team.

New interview on Wall with Wittman

"The people that want to bash John Wall have no idea how the game is being played and what his impact is on the game," Wittman said.
