I think Maynor will play better then all of you expect. He'll turn down the 2nd year option, for a better deal. So, don't worry about that...
Will you fools ever realize that when the cameras are on and the microphones are hot, they are Lying to you! Lying to illicit a prescribed reaction, to easier manipulate you.

I think Wittman must be doing it to mess with the rook's head.
For heaven's sake, it's pre-season. He needs to look at Temple. Rice has gotten a lot of minutes already. He also needs to look at Maynor. So no minutes for Rice; big deal.

I think Beal is going to be the Wizards best player within two years.
You mean the same Holiday that had 8 TOs and pretty much led the league in TOs last season?...yeah, save your Wall hating for the regular season.
How about you just save it and put me on ignore? Life's too short.
I'm putting you on ignore before the season even starts. I will comment about a max player any way I damn well please and as far as I'm concerned you are my hater, so you fit your accusation well, too.
What I will do is just not respond to your posts.
Ok, that's it! I'm putting everybody on Ignore and be done with it.
Like CCJ, I'd really be happy to see John Wall have at least one really outstanding game soon. Seems like a reasonable desire; he did just sign a max contract right? People here do refer to him as a legitimate star don't they?
Still, it's pre-season. At least a little patience might be a good idea.

It's the second year that really is just inexplicable. Why they gave him a 2.1 million dollar player option for the second year - which could easily end up limiting what they can do next offseason,,, I can't get my arms around what in the wild world of sports they were thinking. The Webster signing was clearly over-paying, but at least I could see what they were thinking. The Maynor 2nd year... I can't... see what they were thinking.
Yup. Another utterly idiotic move by the worst GM in the league -- and he's had his job for 10+ years!

dlts20 wrote:80'sballboy & Hands11, I totally disagree with your assesment. In one breath you say its the Preseason and its too experiment while in the next sentence you talk about holding rookies accountable. He wants Rice to play the right way so you bench a rookie in his 4th Preseason game? This is what the Preseason is for. To get him the minutes so he can play the right way. You should easily be able to tell him that without benching him and if he doesnt learn then you bench him during the season.
The only way you bench him now is for guys like Webster to get use to being a 6th man or if Otto Porter is taking his minutes. You dont bench him for Garrett freakin Temple. A guy who shouldnt even be on our roster at all. Its annoying just like Cartier Martin playing over guys. You easily see there limitations when they are out there. Again, Im not saying Rice is the answer, is special, or should even see the floor at all in the regular season but you dont bench him in the Preseason for a regular guy like Temple. It makes no sense at all.
Dont tell me about him being benched for the way he plays when you use to give 40 plus minutes to Nick Young & Jordan Crawford. Again, you should be able to get it through his head without benching him. If you think he is about to tighten the rotation then fine but how can you say he's tighting the rotation but then playing Temple alot in the same breath. He should be nowhere near the rotation
1) You're mis-representing my position - I said he was looking at PG and you can't do everything at once.
2) Its about priorities. I was just taking a guess at why Randy did what he did. Nothing more. Calm down
3) Here we do disagree. I think Temple is more valuable then you do and I'm glad they brought him back.
Glen is a rookie. They will bring him along. He will be a bench player and I think they can already see what he adds, so go evaluate other areas you are less sure about. Glen plays good D and he drives. Now he just has to work on his range shooting. That will come in time like it did for Beal as he transitioned to the NBA.
I'm fine with no Glen for a game or two if they are working on other things.
Just wish they had about two more preseason games then they do so they could keep experimenting. I would be interested in seeing him start at SF one game. But with only two game left, I expect Randy to start locking in the rotations. Maybe I am wrong. We will see.

Beal didn't "go bananas"; he shot well, but he didn't rebound and he turned it over a lot.
Wall didn't have "a typical above-average game." He had a distinctly mediocre game, and he too turned it over a lot.
Those turnovers are why the Pelicans had 82 shots on basket and we only had 71. You often lose if you give the other team 11 more shots than you get.
So, yes, the finger of blame points right at Wall and Beal.
pancakes3 wrote:It is encouraging to see how strong Seraphin and Vesely's rebounding has been this preseason. Ves is really pushing the offensive boards though, but at least it's progress.
Vesely, yes -- and offensive boards are more important than defensive ones (they're harder to get). He'll never justify his pick or even come close, but it'd be nice if he had *some* value.
But Seraphin? Last night, yes -- a very good game on the boards. On his 133 pre-season minutes, however, he's averaging 9 boards every 40 minutes. More or less what he's averaged over his first 2 years and very very bad.

I'm just hoping that Wall's contract doesn't become an issue EVERYTIME he has a bad game. It worries me when it's preseason and we're already hearing it.

pancakes3 wrote:Judging based on the box score, we lost a close game where Beal just went bananas and Wall had a typical above-average game. We couldn't get production out of the SF position and didn't even try to use any low post options. If Beal played had a more typical performance where he didn't go for 30 pts on 75% shooting, we would have lost by double-digits easily.
I don't think the finger of blame goes to Wall or Beal despite their many, many turnovers. It's much more complex than that. It goes to how this team is constructed and how our offense is going to execute. If we're going to be a Wall-driving-then-looking-for-the-kickout Derrick-Rose type offense, the SF's can't go 6-18, and definitely can't have 6 TO's. I'm curious to see just how Web-Riza managed to turn it over so much in their catch-and-shoot role.
It is encouraging to see how strong Seraphin and Vesely's rebounding has been this preseason. Ves is really pushing the offensive boards though, but at least it's progress.
Since that is the biggest thing they needed answered with Okafor out, that was really good to see. Almost seemed like Randy told Kevin, look... for one game we want you to just focus on rebounding so we can see what you can do. If its a dunk or something like that then ok but other then that, we don't want you shooting. We know what you can do offensively, we need to work on your rebounding. 9 rebounds in 23 minutes was good to see. He only shot twice. I'm fine with that for a preseason game.
Cheese looks to be a great addition for what they needed in a S4 plus I like his vet leadership and personality for the lockeroom.
And Glen looks like he adds a decent driving player who moves toward the glass and plays good D.
They are getting some good work in this preseason. Now they have to start putting it all together and get some wins. Back up PG, SF production, and turnovers is what they need to get work out and I'm not over concerned with SF because most night, one of Webster or Trevor A will produce and Randy can ride the hot hand. Plus they can try Glen there if needed.
So its really about back up PG and turnovers. That's what I would focus on. That and rotations.
Two more preseason games to go to see what they can get worked out.

For the record, I'm not complaining about Wall or his contract. I think Beal will become a better player than John Wall. That's a compliment to Beal and not a cut on Wall. I don't think Wall can be considered a superstar until he sustains the type of play from last season.
Neither of those guys are weak spots for the Wizards. Wall and Beal both have a shot at the all star game, with Wall being in position to where he needs to make it.
The obvious weak spot has been players who must fill in for Okafor. Also, Maynor's looking like a bad signing. He's not as good as Price so far.

Well, Beal was 0 +/- and Wall was +3. Mid way through the 4th, the Wiz were up by 6 when the bench came in and gave the game away.

PIF, speaking of which.. I just saw that 8 of Wall's 11 assists were to Beal. Not sure if that says something about Beal, or everyone else.
