So i got excited when I saw we ended up actually working a sign and trade with Ariza, with the Rockets and the Pelicans. But all we got out of it was a non guaranteed contract and a 8.5 mill trade exception. Witch that is a nice trade exception to use to absorb a contract. But I would have loved to get a young big, oh well. Not horrible!

The player (contract) is Melvin Ely -- and here's hoping Ernie didn't actually *want* this guy (e.g. as a back-up big). He is 36 and not even close to being a has-been, because he's a never-was.

Probably just did the s/t to get the exception however -- and that might come in useful. How long is it good for?

They've already said they are going to cut him and I believe that they will have until next summer to use it.

We had no leverage at all. How could you possibly expect to get a young big in the transaction? Frankly, it was pretty impressive that EG turned Ariza's departure into a very useful asset. EG is finally demonstrating a little cap savvy.

Well the Pelicans might cut Withey or Ajinca, and I would love to have either one behind Gortat. It reminded me of the Jordan Crawford trade, where we could have had Fab melo, in retrospect, good call passing on him. But, I would have loved to have Withey or Ajinca. That would have allowed us to pull our offer for kevin, Which I believe we can do till the end of July, I believe. But, maybe we asked but got denied.

Ugh NO Josh Smith. The Pistons cant GIVE him away to anyone so why the hell would we give up valuable assets for that guy ? I wouldn't take him for Free even if Detroit was GIVING US a 1st to take him.

His only problem is shot selection and if you're confident in wall, you should know he will hit him at all the right spots..please tell me what other problems smith has?? He's a top tier defender

I would love to see us use one of our small trade exception on Tony Wroten. I don’t know if the 76’ers would agree, but seeing as how they are in willing free-fall mode, we may be able to pull it off.

The guy can ball and would be great backing up Beal and giving us a spark of the bench.

And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

GS is trying to S&T away Crawford, he showed he can play PG in Boston last year and maybe he could learn from miller. I would be all for bringing him back. Especially if all GS is looking for is a trade exception for him. Or maybe we can even do a double S&T and send them Kevin, they need bench bigs.
Wall/Crawford/Miller
Beal/Rice/Web
That would be a very decent back court, IMO anyway.

I would not want him in the locker room with our young guys.... this could be Andray Blatche all over again. Don't want it. No knuckleheads on this team !

And he's got 3 more years on his deal... we are not taking on anyone for more than 2 years right now.... Durant in '16 is the goal. And even if no Durant than we can go for other guys in 2016... but until then we take on short contracts and go with what we got.

Moving this from another thread discussing the TPE:

We can.

Yep, that's what I thought. Looking at available options if we were to go half/half on different positions (both from a numbers perspective, and from a likelihood the other team might want to trade them), here's what I've come up with so far:

Bigs
A. Kirilenko - $3.32M
Darrell Arthur - $3.45
Jonas Jerebko - $4.5M
M.Speights - $3.65M
Chris Copeland - $3.13M
Z. Pachulia - $5.2M
Chuck Hayes - $5.9M

Guards
Gary Neal - $3.25M
Mike Dunleavy - $3.32M
Randy Foye - $3.0M
C. Delfino - $3.25M
A. Shved - $3.28M
Jason Terry - $5.85M

Not saying I'm in love with all of those names, but there are some decent ones in there.

All of those guys are on 1 or 2 year deals, and in most cases we could mix/match one from each category to end up with two guys to fill out the bench.

Sorry, Lyrical, but that is one ugly list. I don't know that I'd really want any of those guys on the roster (maybe taking one if a pick comes along with him, but otherwise...) I'm sure I'd rather have Ersan or the flexibility to take on salary from a desperate team next summer to any of those guys.

If I really had to pick, I might take Speights and Neal, but again - why?

Pretty satisfied with the way this season's roster is shaping up.

It's getting harder for me to play armchair GM when the roster starts getting filled with good players.

Probasketballtalk has the Bucks aggressively shopping Ersan Ilyasova. It looks like Ersan would fit perfectly into Ariza's trade exception and his contract can be voided in 2 years when we want to pursue Durant. Too much of a no brainier? Ersan overlaps a bit with PP, if PP is being used as a stretch 4, but would look good in the second unit with Porter.

Ersan would have his use in ultra small ball, especially in last shot situations,

Wall
Beal
Porter/Rice/Webster (whichever is healthy and shootin the three
Pierce
Ersan

dat floor spacin tho

Wiretap says: "The Chicago Bulls will trade Anthony Randolph and two second round picks to the Orlando Magic to clear additional cap space. Randolph will be waived by the Magic."

Interested? . . . As for Ersan, I know he's a stretch 4 but is it really worth going that far over the cap for that little advantage?

This seems to be the name getting the most play for the Wizards TPE. He'd be nice insurance given Nene's fragility. Has 3 years left on his deal, but only 2 years are guaranteed. IMO the roster would look pretty nice with Blair instead of Seraphin, and Ilyasova in place of Booker. Bucks are looking for PG, perhaps we can work a deal of Satoransky with our TPE.

Center- Gortat, Nene, Blair
PF - Nene, Ilyasova, Gooden
SF - Pierce, Porter, Webster

That's a pretty solid frontcourt. Small ball options with Ilyasova at C and Pierce at PF, etc. Got scoring, high effort and IQ, rebounding.
