They both want to play, but I think they both should sit this one out. The Clippers sat Paul for a game and won.

I love this CCJ lol

Not sure if anyone here goes as far back as the old usenet news days of rec.sport.basketball.pro
but there used to the this thing invented by Jim Oliver (iirc) called the Oliver woofing theorem.
It basically says whoever's fans do the most woofing before the game will cause their team to
lose the next game.

Nice going CCJ.

EXACTLY.

That is why I am a little worried about hands on the General board these last few days.

Bowen was such a dirty player. I think he learned that move from Bill Laimbeer.

Wow that was really dirty. I was ticked that Al wasn't called for a foul, but it didn't look anywhere near as bad as the Bowen video where Bruce flagrantly and repeatedly extends his leg. Was hoping to see Vince get a shot on him.

Hortford just seemed to close hard and get too close, which should've been whistled. Now if it happens again this series, it's time to send in DeJuan Blair for a couple retribution "plays."

With the Capitals doing well, the above reminds me of hockey fights. In the NHL enforcers are countered with..enforcers. Basketball shouldn't go that far, but the Boston Celtics vs Cleveland Cavaliers went bad. Brad Stevens seemed to me to encourage physical play. David Blatt pushed back. The results were combustible.

The irony is that now Olynyk is considered the borderline dirty player. JR Smith's over-the-top retaliation to Crowder almost resulted in getting Crowder s knee blown out.

I would coach guys on how to be responsibly physical. Bowen was a dirty player. Dennis Rodman generally was not, but he threw guys around a lot. I love Blair's picks. Legal and anxiety producing. :)

On Horford, I've watched the play several times and I don't see anything that would suggest it was intentional. Sometimes sh** happens...its part of the game.

On Beal and Wall, I'm no doctor but I would sit both if there is a chance that there could be more damage if hit again. I agree that Beal is the most worrisome even though Wall's hand purportedly is in worse shape. Playing on a sore ankle can lead Beal to overcompensate, which can lead to injuries to other parts of the lower body. I don't see the same risk for the wrist. We stole Game 1 and now have home court advantage...I wouldn't jeopardize the rest of the round to get greedy and get both games in Atlanta.

Regarding Nene, I have no problem starting him but I would put him on a VERY short leash. Aside for one game against Toronto, the Wizards have pretty much started every single playoff game in a hole because of Nene and Gortat playing together. Things haven't improved until one of them has been taken out.

Go Wiz!

Agreed. Would you call a foul there though? I was so adamant about it that my dogs were cowering a little.

Unless a doctor or one of the two guys themselves advised me to sit John or Brad, there is no freaking way I sit either of them tonight. This is going to be a difficult series, and we need to give it our best shot every single game. Plus the Wizards have become tough, gutsy. For two relatively minor injuries, sitting your young stars with the ECF in spitting distance conflicts with the team identity that has been established.

Look at what John did after his fall, came out and dominated to will the team to victory. If you're Randy mulling this question over, there needs to be a small whisper inside your head, "What would the Truth say?" Worst case you trot them out in the starting lineup and evaluate; if it's apparent that their effectiveness is hampered or they're at a substantially higher risk for reinjury, then to the bench it is. They wanna play. Let 'em play. Basketball is a physical game.

After I hit submit there, I started considering that I was 100% behind pulling RG3 in real time, not retrospect. I think I'm consistent on my view though because it was obvious that he was severely less effective on the field and the risk for reinjury was visible for miles.

I wouldn't be surprised if Atlanta took the same position and tried to soften up Wall and Beal even more. I think there will be hard fouls tonight.

Go Wizards!!!!

Honestly, I did not have the same reaction as you. I've seen that kind of thing happen a million times and usually there is no foul called unless the defensive player really sticks the leg out. I didn't think Horford did.

I was going to raise RG3 but you beat me to the punch. Bottom line is you have to listen to the docs. If doc says that playing with the hurt wrist/ankle could could result in significantly more damage, then I would sit them, particularly if resting for four more days could significantly reduce that risk. If the doc says, "if you can handle the pain, there is not a significant risk of further damaging the wrist or hand," then I would play them. It is kind of when I had a torn labrum in my shoulder. It hurt but the doc said that there was little risk of damaging it further if I continued to lift, so I continued.

Jalen Rose admitted to doing that to Kobe. Bruce Bowen did that many times.

Yep. 2000 Finals. Kobe missed game 4 iirc. Bird said Laimbeer used to do it all the time too:

I never watched him a lot but respected him game. Now I despise the dude like I do Noah.

I concur. I never liked Hortford either.

So...Donovan is to blame.

LOL

Exactly....

ATL has the image of a likable team though. I never realized Horford played like that.

Randy, please make an adjustment.

Start warming up your vocal cords. Meme meme meee...

You can count on Nene starting for the reasons I outlined.

Best we can hope for is Nene scoring some pts, drawing a foul or two, use keeping it close.

Randy isn't changing his starters. No now. That's just not Randy.

He will want to keep things as is to the down stream rotations stay the same the team continuity going into next series.

As much as I want to see us go up 2-0 this is probably the smart move seeing that it will give John off almost six days. Hell this is a perfect game to just gun for a win play lose as hell and see what happens. Now I have my doubts with out maestro, but LAC did it, why not us?
