So we're right about at the point in the season where it's reasonable to assume that the Wizards are going to be awful for the duration of the year and that there are a few players on the team who have been so generally and dependably lousy that even if doing something about isn't gonna get those wins I'm in favor of doing it anyway, only so that I get to watch Wizards basketball without watching those particular gentlemen. Thus far the lucky trio have been Hilton Armstrong, Al Thornton and Yi Jianlian.
I don't so much want the team to find players better than them right away (feel free I guess Ernie) but I definitely want it to find players who are not them. And because the easiest place to find guys who play basketball professionally and are not any of those three is the D-League here we are. So here's my challenge: let's imagine that the Wizards' decide they have a few broken bells on the team and decide to give up the ghost inside for the year: let's find some terrible D-Leaguers and and let's make a few NBA dreams come true...
Guys I might consider throwing a ten day at:
Kyle Weaver: A big, defense first guard with significant NBA experience and a little bit of a shot, Weaver could supplement Heinriche and Gil at shooting guard and allow Young to play more at small forward. Which is not a good idea, because Young has been much more productive at guard but it does have the advantage of involving no Al Thornton whatsoever. Someone to look at if the team get's a decent offer for Keanu.
Chris Johnson: Skinny athletic big guy playing for those other Wizards, and just about the only guy playing well for those other Wizards Johnson has basically been Dakota's JaVale McGee. And I will absolutely take any kind of JaVale McGee over Stretch.
Patrick Ewing Jr: Another guy with some NBA experience, mostly the experience of an NBA bench on his butt, Patrick has been pretty good so far this year and is definitely not Al Thornton. I have this from a trustworthy source. Might be able to shoot the occasional three if he can do anything at the NBA level.
Lance Thomas: Former Duke hustle guy who's been pretty good for Austin (the Spurs affiliate) and who sang backup in college to so many players with so much talent that he might be a little better than he looked at Duke. Who cares, Trevor Booker is currently endearing himself by running around and not being Yi and Lance Thomas is capable of both of those things.
DeShawn Sims: I could take a couple sentences to tell you about Sims and remind you that he isn't Hilton Armstrong but I'll instead mention that Manny Harris has stuck with the Cavs and that I wish he hadn't so I could advocate signing him.
Seth Tarver/Richard Roby/Zabian Dowdell/Marcus Landry/Paul Harris: Marcus Landry might be Al Thornton with a lot of acne, but I'm fairly confident about the rest of these guys.
Sean Williams: Yes, that Sean Williams. Yes I am aware of what a screwup he's been over his career, and that this team does not need another guy like that. Whatever, 420 over 4 for 20 on elbow jumpers anyday and Seans up Yis down.
I thought you were going to suggest the Wizards simply move down into the D-League for the remainder of the year. Its about where they belong.
