Hinrich is overpaid, but in some ways he is the perfect guard to pair with Wall.

On offense the biggest question mark about Wall is his jump shoot. Hinrich struggled a little last year, but he can shoot jumpers well. That should spread the floor to allow Wall to attack the basket.

On the defensive side, Wall can take the physically tougher player(longer or quicker) and Hinrich can take the craftier player. For example I would see Hinrich guarding Nash or Kidd, but Rose and Brooks Wall would be a better match-up.

I think Kirk is a really good defender at his positions, he's a nice size too, 6'3 average frame, a good shooter, etc. I think Kirk will teach John Wall defensive strategies.

Hi MJ7!

I don't know enough about Hinrich to know if he's cerebral in his defense or just hustling and intuitive, but I've seen him quite a bit, and I like how he seems to maximize his not overwhelming physical skills. Added to the physically gifted, intelligent, and seemingly quite willing Wall, the gifted and defensively improving (if still inconsistent) Young, and Arenas, a player with skills that could lend to good defense, the backcourt rotation has the potential to be the Wizards' best defensively in years. Hinrich could have a positive effect on the other three, and Hinrich, Young, and of course Arenas could all contribute to Wall improving his shooting.

By January, maybe I'll be whining (again) as it's all falling apart, but the potential is there.

Yo.

I agree, John Wall is a lot more athletic then Kirik, which means that he'd be getting up and down the floor with ease. Kirk is quite cerebral, very intelligent and isn't a chucker. I'm still really intrigued about John's ability to defend consistently, and if he can do it consistently. Kirk's main issue on the Wizards is contributing, we're a star studded team with Wall but in Chicago he was starting at some point and now he needs to make a transition from starter to bench producer.

Question; How's Wall's FT percentage?

Wall shot about 75% FT at Kentucky. Not bad, could get a little better.

That's not that great for his position, but it's not horrible and he'll improve as his career goes on.

That's actually quite solid for a freshman, point guard or otherwise. I agree there's no reason he can't improve that into the 80s in the NBA.

He'll probably never be Chris Paul or Steve Nash at the line, but if he can get to about .800 like Arenas, I'd be happy, and Arenas' college FT % was similar. Wall's college FT % is better than those of Derrick Rose and Tyreke Evans, and far better than Rondo's, and I think all of them improved in the pros, so .800 is maybe a reasonable hope.

75% for a freshman PG is pretty darn good. Wall will definitely improve from there. I expect him to shoot in the 82-85% range within a couple of years. He won't lead the league in FT% or anything, but he'll be a reliable FT shooter.

75% for such a star player isn't amazing, but agreed, he'll improve. I'm wondering how the backstage, or, locker room relationship with Arenas and Wall will be like.

Careful, MJ7. Asking legitimate, reasonable questions about how Gil and Wall will interact is going to draw the ire of the pro-Arenas zealots. Prepare to be labeled a "Gil hater" and to be retroactively blamed for any and all perceived slights against Arenas since the news about the gun incident broke. Oh yeah, and you'll also be accused of not wanting to win because the only possible person that can ever help the Wizards win another game ever until the end of time is Gilbert Arenas.

Enjoy!

When healthy, Arenas was always the best player on the Wizards, and led them on the court through the example of his play and off the court through his relentless work on his game. Still, he barely played defense or worked to improve it, and he was not a vocal general. From what I saw and gathered, others like Butler and Jamison tried fill the leadership gap and tried to get Arenas to tone down his antics, but also from what I saw and gathered, their leadership fell short in various ways.

My hope for Wall is that he arrives with the skills and confidence and clear mandate (as the #1 pick) to assume the leadership that Arenas never took for himself, and that Arenas' game might actually improve once that vague notion that he's the team's leader is retired. Maybe he'll be happier and play with more purpose, or maybe his ego will struggle with it. I think Arenas wants to be a better player and to play with a winner.

As stupid as this sounds, its probably Leonsis who will do more to make Gil act like an adult. He's already taken on that role from the sounds of things.

Not playing in SummerLeague he's rehabbing a tweaked knee. Initial reports said it wasn't crucial, but was enough to keep him out of the finals. His deal has an out clause, 750K buyout of which the Wiz can pay the usual 500K.

If the Wiz were interested in him in the 1st round it actually makes more sense to trade up to get him, otherwise he might have decided to take the Euromoney. At #17 he'll earn upwards of 1.3 mill on his first year deal, if he were available at #30 he'd have only earned somewhere south of 830K.

He'll come over and play this year. He's eager to play in the NBA, actually begging Ernie to select him when he last interviewed with the team. Recall he's played against John Wall (2008 Nike Hoops Summit) he's seen how dynamic and exciting the kid can be. Though he's only played Ball 5 years, the NBA has been his dream since he first knew he could play.

Looks like Ted and Ernie didn't hand Chicago a dynasty after all. I suppose they could still land Lebron and Boozer, but that looks unlikely.

If Im Lebron and I want to win...Im still going to Chicago. NY is a few years away and Cleveland has Antoine Jamison as its 2nd best player.

I dont think Chicago is dead yet

I think chicago gets shut out, theres still not enough there for him to go alone that would guarantee them to be a franchise team. Especially if he will be compared to what Jordan did there for the rest of his career and walk past his statue before every game, if not NY or NJ then i say he stay in CLE only for 3 yrs tho
