His defensive timing is ridiculous at times. It's like his mind is making extraordinary mathematical computations to know exactly when the basketball is going to get to a certain point - probably like it was with Rodman and rebounds.

Yeah he's been my first round spotlight player. Instinct, hustle, and basketball software are talents as rare as ridiculous wingspan or hops, and long term tend to be more productive. If you get a player who quickly learns to defend at the next level you are ahead of the game, since defense is something that commonly comes with veteran savvy. Players who show it while still in their teens are hte sort who are basketball lifers with long and successful career in the league, usually on on winning teams.

This guy is the Kawhi Leonard Montrezl Harrell of this particular draft.

So you was thinking about this the other night when it was slow at work. We were n so me games and end up with pick 9-13. We make some trades and maybe end up with 17 and another late first. Or something what 3 players in this draft would you be happy taking.

Well if you’re talking about dealing our pick to Celtics for 17 & 27 ?

I’d look at 17 two of the guys playing against each other tonight STIX and OTURU as well as Carey.

At 27 I’d probably look at Green, Bey, or Nesmith.

2nd round I’d look Tillie, Reed, Tillman, Diakite

Naw I meant we keep our picks and add picks it looked at as a weak draft so shouldn't be hard to add a mid round and a late pick. Maybe we trade Bryant or and stuff like our second ? Idk just a thought.

I was thinking Hampton with the high pick stick Smith with the mid and bey or Oturu with the late.
I doubt any of us would be mad about that.

Hampton seems like a bit of a reach for a lotto pick, but this looks like a very bad draft - so maybe he's not such a big reach. I'd rather look to trade down if he's the best choice at 9ish.

Daniel Oturo.
Onyeke Okongwu
Jalen Smith

No-brainers. Oturo is a stud. Quick hops, power. Cannot miss successful NBA career potential.

Maryland is not winning these comebacks without Jalen Smith, who is racking up double doubles with VERY SOLID play at both ends. Sticks reminds me of Darius Miles, Jeff Green, and Horace/ Harvey Grant. He's really improving and he's still growing into his body.

Okongwu is the closest thing to Kawhi Leonard in this draft.

Also, Obi Toppin. Reminds me of Shawn Marion. Len Bias type game. He will start and will score a lot in the NBA.

I only watched the highlights and boxscore. The thing about Oturu - he's never been known as a 3 point shooter, but that was the 2nd straight game he's nailed them. No question about his ability to score in the paint. Yeah, he's stepping up his game. And he's got a very good frame - better than Stix. Oturu's a better center prospect while Stix is a little more versatile. Neither is a defensive stopper. I can see the comp of Oturu to Bryant.

Well, you know I want to trade down -- but it's "this looks like a very bad draft" that I want to comment on.

Of course, 2020 may well turn out to be a bad draft, but... it is absolutely impossible to know that in advance, i.e. now, i.e. to predict it.

Everybody thought 2011 would be a terrible draft, but a few surprises meant that overall it turned out to be a terrific one. 21 or 22 of the first 34 players picked established themselves in the league, & there were 2 good players at the very bottom of R2.

Everyone thought 2012 would be an outstanding draft, but 18 of the first 31 were no good (including 2 busts & 1 meh in the top 5), & if Sato, Crowder, Draymond, Middleton, Barton, & O'Quinn hadn't been there, we'd be looking at a real mess retrospectively.

Ditto... a bunch of years. Most of the best players out of 2015 came from #27 down.

You may still be right! But, a team with multiple picks will still be able to clean up if they draft well.

Agreed on the Shawn Marion comp for Toppin. Effortless athleticism at 6'9" and maybe still growing.

Okongwu would look nice as our plug and play starter next year. TB has only disappointed on defense.

I’ve really grown to like Okongwu as our 1st round target. He seems to be such an ideal fit for this team. The biggest weak spot of this team is defense and he brings it! I like his versatility and ability to switch. You can play him with Bryant, or Bertans, or Hachimura. He would thrive in a Wall led uptempo offense cutting to the basket.

The problem with our center rotation projecting to next season is without Mahinmi, neither Bryant or WAGNER are good defensively, plus Mo can come in the game and pick up 3 fouls in 5 minutes. Okongwu would be ideal to throw into the mix. Put him on the opposition best offensive front court threat and make things unpleasant for them. The way he tracks down rebounds to add extra possessions could be a tremendous asset.

The question is where will we pick? We keep winning we could play ourselves out of his draft range. Maybe we can trade up? Maybe he slips in the draft if other teams draft for offense? We’ll see how things shake out, should be interesting!
