It's looks really one-sided in our favor now. ...

I don't see why.... To me, it was simply a straightforward, fair trade.

Now, if Bub becomes really special, then of course that'll tilt it our way....

Maybe a coincidence, but:
Simons only played 5 minutes.
Ayton didn't play.

Both can be effective, but don't seem the answer for a good team.

The future is Clingan, Sharpe, and Henderson. The key is improvement of Henderson, who's been pretty bad so far.

Interesting that Dawkins apparently will get 8 years before we can make an evaluation on what he does with the team but so many are ready to claim victory on this trade less than a month in.

Deni will be fine, he will get his numbers up and he will continue to have more performances like last night, and better I suspect, that will make us want to kick ourselves. What a shot over Edwards and a block on the other end he made on him, that's no easy feat against that dude.

Alas Deni is still adjusting, I don't think this game means he's figured everything out but it's a good start. He also is going to have to navigate himself on a disaster of a roster that has no direction, so he's going to have to establish more consistent play to get more latitude because Grant is going to get the Kuzma treatment on that roster.

Bub is getting force fed minutes, Deni has to earn his. Acting like this is anything of a runaway in one direction or the other this early is funny. Also let's wait until Bub gets a scouting report or two put out on him.

Not just Bub we need to wait on before judging the trade!

What will we get for Brogdon?
What will the R1 pick get us?
What will one of the R2 picks yield?
What will the other R2 pick yield?

Are we really going to bump this thread after every game? :noway:

Agreed, shouldn't be a thing, but there's a contingent that want to be a bunch of front runners and try to lord over people. I think this recent game was to counter balance said front runners.

Sticky it.

Some of us find so little else to follow about this team. I'm already satisfied that Bub is a good prospect.

Deni has not blown up as I thought.

Maybe keep tracking this until Brogdon returns and things look clearer for Deni in Portland.

If we had a decent team, it would be different. It's challenging to be Wizards fan. Root for the young guys, but know it's best if they lose. And most of us don't care how Kuz and Poole do, but we're stuck with them for now.

Let me help you out in that case: trading Deni Avdija for (in effect) Bub Carrington, a Round 1 pick, a pair of R2 picks, & Malcolm Brogdon was a terrific trade.

Happy now?

One good idea might be to cover Deni's play in the ex-Wizards thread. After all, that's where it belongs.

As to your first sentence, I'm not sure what you mean by "front runners" or what opportunity there is to lord anything over anyone. Or, for that matter, why you feel it's necessary to call people names. Your prerogative of course.

Teams make trades all the time. Few & far between are players who spend their careers with the teams that drafted them. &, because GMs aren't idiots, most trades are roughly speaking "fair" -- similar talent in & out for teams involved in the deal. There can be surprises, obviously, but that's the way it usually goes.

Most active thread on the board- I was doing my best to rekindle the Ignore thread but there were no takers.

Deni update-- through 15 games, Deni is averaging 9/6/3 on .49 TS%.

Man, I hate seeing Deni struggling like that. I thought he’d be a centerpiece of the Port offense, especially considering all they gave up to get him, instead he’s an afterthought. That’s messed up.

His raw numbers are actually completely identical to his career averages. Just shooting a lot worse.

Obviously the biggest piece of this so far, to me anyway:

Deni is playing quite poorly for his standard the previous 18 months or so.

The other piece: holy moly have we done well with the '24 draft thru, well, a month, so small sample size madness in effect. But if we really do pull 3 of the top 8 prospects out of the draft despite having just 1 top 10 pick, and one pick in the late twenties, no matter what happens, that's likely to be a win of an offseason, period.

Definitely looks like Bub is closer to at least expectation/ceiling, than floor/expectation, while Sarr and George are providing periodic flashes of high ceilings, with generally strong performances. It was a helluva draft for us, so far. Time will tell.

Yes, it looks like we had an outstanding draft, though in Sarr's case we're still judging on flashes of potential.

definitely early days but the general trend is for young players to struggle at first and get
better as they mature physically and learn the league. The merest glimpses of hope in the
first 20 games or even success before they are 20 yo often hint at better things to come.

I'm reminded of TSW (Kev) in the early days of Gil when Kev pointed out how much success
at a young age can be a very positive indicator.

Our kids may or may not follow the general trend. We shall see. But as long as we're losing and losing badly,
this is the most interesting thing about the team. And it's arguably more interesting than watching
them fight for a low playoff seed, lose in the first round and pick outside of the lottery.

I see Deni is still failing to live up to his draft slot, one step above a complete bust

In the last 4 he seems to be playing better since Billups called out the team. He's averaging 12.5/6/2.8 with a 59 ts% in less than 24 mpg.

Also he is coming off a 2nd half in OKC where he got 12 points and 6 rebounds in 11 minutes. (he did start the game 0-5 but shot 4-5 in the 2nd half)
