Chicago pulling out would be the ultimate F U and would kill any chances of them working any deals for the near future because of that. It's just bad business.

If Seraphin really is coming over this year, then I like the deal a lot better than I did on draft night. I didn't mind the Hinrich part of it, he can play. If we got the kid over though, that beefs up our front court a bit. Getting another big really isn't a need.

Yeah, I never thought Chicago ever really had a chance at LeBron for exactly those reasons.

New Jersey either. Btw, I haven't heard anything in a long time about whether or not that Bulls/Zards trade is actually going to happen tomorrow. I hope Michael Lee has something on it today.

If I'm LeBron and I want to Win, I'm going to Miami.

Is probably the best Starting 5 in the league and one of the best I've seen in years.

I mean really, this 5 is close to being better than the 2009 Eastern All Stars Starting 5.

Haslem is unlikely to stay for the vet minimum. Plug in Joel Anthony at center. That team is still going to have trouble defending Orlando.

I dunno, he seems pretty attached to the area there and with a team like that he just might. I don't think they will have a problem finding players willing to take less to play for them, it was a similar situation with Wade/Shaq in 2005-2006.

I think it comes down to if the Heat can get Haslem and QRich to play for the minimum. If they can then, I think they are in good shape.

Assuming LeBron doesn't go to Miami and the Heat can't dump Beasley, they'll still have about $14M left to spend. So they can afford to keep Haslem, but the question is really about role IMO. If he doesn't want to play center, the only role left for him is getting scraps as Bosh's backup.

I was saying Miami wouldn't land Haslem if they also landed Lebron. There's no chance that a pretty good player in the prime of his career like Haslem is going to take the vet minimum when he can go earn a full MLE contract someplace else.

Haslem would actually be a pretty nice, low key acquisition. Watch a smart team like Houston or San Antonio scoop him up.

Just for completeness' sake, I thought this thread should have the Bulls forum mod from the Yi thread on the Knicks board:

BrooklynBulls wrote:Who cares to discuss Hinrich's quality as a player? It simply doesn't matter anymore. He's entered the pit of despair known as the Wizards franchise. Why was he traded for? Grunfeld likes him for some reason. What reason? Who could wager to say? Who knows? Maybe Grunfeld just wants Wall to look even more athletic when he's running beside Hinrich. Maybe he thought Hinrich had magical powers and he could fold the basketball franchise and open a quidditch league. Who can read the thinking of a guy who's proven he's not good at his job?

Some will get excited at the obvious Ernie potshots, but more than anything, it kind of has me hoping for Ray Allen and Kurt Thomas coming to Da' Illinois Udders on five year contracts.

I think he should be more concerned about his GM failing to land, Lebron, Wade or Bosh after clearing a ton of cap room. Now he's going to have to sign Boozer or David Lee to a max contract so that he can tell the fanbase, hey, we signed someone.

He also missed out on Joe Johnson. Don't forget that.

I'm not so sure Lebron would have been a good fit for the Bulls to begin with. With the way he dominates the ball where exactly would that have left Rose? As the Bulls GM I'd sign Boozer, bring in Allen and still have enough and either sit on the rest of the cash, or use it to round out the roster with vets.

I would call that one dodging a bullet. I think Joe Johnson would only be good for a team like Dallas(or San Antonio) with a legit star and a closing window.

When the Chicago or Atlanta core players are peaking Joe Johnson will be a bad contract, even if he earns his pay up to that point.

^ I agree with that based on the deal he got from Atlanta. But what if Chicago had brought Johnson in with somebody like Boozer at 12:01 on July 1 and offered a sub-max deal to both of them. Maybe it's less than he could have gotten with the Hawks, but he'd be in a bigger market with a better team and a guy in Rose that will be the guy who takes the last shot. I think that should have been the Bulls strategy.

Joe Johnson took the money, plain and simple. He isn't going to do jack with Atlanta, and when it's Josh Smith's time to get paid he'll move on and the Hawks will be stuck in championship no-mans land.

As the Bulls GM there's no way I give Johnson more than a 4 year deal to begin with. The guy's got way too much mileage on his wheels for my taste.

The Hawks got themselves a nice Albatross, not much else. To make matters worse, they fired the one guy who, at least in my humble opinion, magically turned that squad into a 50 win team. Atlanta made a living feasting on the weak east and aren't nearly as good as their record would suggest.

Hindsight is 20/20. They would have been roasted if they initially went for two 2nd tier players over LeBron/Bosh/Wade.

If LeBron does go to Chicago, any chance we can talk them into Deng instead of Hinrich and Seraphin? :)
