Is it at all worth it for us to take a Waiters-esque flyer on him to be our backup SG?
I might take a flier if he's cheap. Maybe a change of scenery helps. Better coaching and Wall can't hurt. Like his improvement from beyond the arc. Worried about defense though.
As long as you know what your getting. A guard that cannot take more than two dribbles so he's worthless off the dribble or attacking the basket. If it's not a spot up jumper or a finish on the break... it's not going to end well for him.
From what I've seen he's also a low confidence guy. He needs to be encouraged and needs to experience success at the things he does well. He can be a good defender but he's been disengaged since his 2nd season.
He's worth a look but he has to be put into a position to succeed.
Yeah, he's basically a limited, 3&D small forward in a shooting guard's body, without all that much "D". If our second unit was led by a ball-pounder like Ramon Sessions, it might work out okay; but instead, it'll be Frazier and/or Sato; and those guys aren't capable of dominating the ball and will need to be surrounded by teammates who are competent ball-handlers, passers and decision makers.
