Holy B Jesus. I've been back and forthing on facebook, over the years, (about music) with the single hottest, and coolest, chick ever (and I mean ever) to walk the halls of my high school. Kinda chick who dated the PSU quarterback as a sophomore in high school because she could. Who still looks friggin dropdead gorgeous and one of the only women I ever found funny.

Well, her favorite modern artist is Andrew Bird. So, I innocently invited her (and of course her husband) to hit the show with me. I haven't seen her in a decade, but my friends who have still drool over her. She said, "OH MY GOD YES, write me the details. Can't wait to go." Just checked her facebook to get her email. Wait... Her status says, "in a relationship complicated." What's up with that? Phone calls around to friends. "Oh yeah, man. She's separated and they are getting a divorce." GET THE FLIP OUT! You're telling me I have a DATE with HER? Wooooo the frig hooooo....

ok, so you scored a date with a hot chick. congrats. but andrew bird - I have a couple of his tunes on my iPod - i just listened to them to refresh my memory, meh - doesn't do much for me. Let me know how his live show is.

Speaking of live shows, I'm going to try and hit Jammin' Java on Monday night to check out RRIICCEE - Vincent Gallo's latest musical project. Promises to be an interesting show (if nothing else) given Gallo's penchant for pushing the artistic envelope.

Lol I wasn't posting to say, "Hey, I got a hot date." Well, in some respects of course. I just thought it was funny that I had absolutely no clue I was asking out this chick that all my friends have fantasized about for ages. I got the yes without knowing I was even trying.

As far as Andrew Bird, he's certainly not top of my list. But, yeah I'm a fan. Also love how he never plays the same song, the same way, twice. Does tons of improv.

Any of you all who haven't run into the bandMate ap need to stop whatever you are doing this minute and get it. Most amazing ap in history. You plug in your favorite artists. It alerts you when they are coming to town or when their new album drops. Then, it tells you of other bands who you would probably like. And when they are coming to town. And links with ITunes, so you can hear clips. So, for a guy like me -- who is in Chicago one week and Detroit the next -- I can just hit one button when i get into a new town, and it'll tell me the local artists I'd probably like and where they are playing. Pretty friggin' cool.

So you must play in the Central Division. Is that you AJ?

I liked your inadvertant hookup story.

Thanks ya, Monte. Naw, if I were AJ, I would have refused to lace-um-up in Cleveland. Speaking of travel, I'm pretty psyched that my gig in two weeks is in the Virgin Islands (and I get three days completely off out of the week I'll be there). All on the company dime.

DJ Format will be dropping a 12" next month where I'm the featured MC on both songs. I'll also be on 5 album cuts. 100% vintage, throwback hip hop.

Will keep you guys posted if interested.

I've been "trapped" in Memphis for a couple days. Oh no, please mr. Boss man, don't throw me in the briar patch.

Spent two solid hours yesterday speaking with Mr. Rudy Williams. Rudy is a blues legend and has a note on Beale Street -- kinda like having your star on the Hollywood walk of fame, but much more exclusive. If Rudy ever finished a sentence without a s#I+ or a muthaf$@&$r thrown in, it'd be a first -- which is why I love him. Sweetest old man in history.

So, he walked me through the story of how he was there at the foundation of Stax -- the famous blues record label. Stax was Satelitte records. And Rudy was just a dude who played trumpet on the side, but was mostly a football player. But, the leagues weren't intregrated, so he, "Never got to see how good I was against them white boys." One day, some guy from his high school calls and says he's down at Satelitte records recording a cut. Wanted to see if Rudy wanted to come down and lay down some trumpet (for free of course). Rudy comes down, and says, "Hey man, let's get the whole band from high school down here to record a cut." So, they did. But, the white jazz artists and black artists had to record at different times. They couldn't share a studio.

So, he said they were waiting for the white guys to finish. I'll let Rudy tell it (paraphrased, but I'll remember it forever, so it's pretty much a quote):

"We were watchin' them white cats. And they was pretty good man. And you could tell that the two groups wanted to play together. So, the manger slipped out between sets. And man, we said f@$@ that muthaf$@&&r, and we went in their and started jammin' together. And it was hot, man. You got the black kids teachin' the white kids riffs and back the other way. I had never heard of sixths on a trumpet til this white boy showed me. Then, the manager comes back and he flips, man. Yellin' "You can't be in there together." So, we recorded for like a week. They'd play, then we'd play. But man, we kept bein' like we wanted to play together. So, end of the week, we all get together again. And this time when the manager came back, we told that muthaf$&@&r he can go to hell and arrest us, but we are gonna play. And that there was when Satelittle records changed it's name to Stax because it became an integrated label."

Frickin' two hours of stories like that coming from a blue legend out on Beale street. "Oh yeah, you like Stevie cuz you play the gittar. Yeah man, I remember when Stevie's plane had broken down in Memphis. So, he wanted to hang so he came to see my band over there at the rum boogie. I had hung with him in Chicago, but we never jammed til that night. So, I dragged him on stage. Man that boy could make a guitar cry..."

Lol a guy meets a blues legend who integrated blues music in America, and not one, "Hey, that's kinda cool.." out of you musical f'ers? I swear, I have little to no idea why I write here some days. Not even a mention in the roll call thread despite being here since Doc climbed over the Espn fence.

In the words of Mr. Rudy Williams, "F' dem muthaf$"&?rs." No pity "coolness" posts now either. Mr. Rudy don't want your pity.

I haven't read as many posts lately as I'd like to, but that IS a pretty cool story, ba! ;) I'd like to say I've had cool meetings like that, but I haven't. Good to hear that you "made the most" out of being in a sweet town like Memphis.

But anyway, 'not a mention'?

susanys. aka mr susan. I forgot about that, dude used his wife's ESPN account to log in, hence the name. Probably better left forgotten -- stands to reason that it would be stildropin -- uh 'vibes... who would remember how to sir up trouble, long past.

I'm just playin', Doc. I barely skimmed the roll call thread -- like how I treat most of the board these days. And I pretty much was just looking for my name -- because I'm an attention whore. Yeah, I saw you had posted my name there -- like I was just some other schmo (not the dude who stood next to you daily as watchmen at the gate from the onslaught of flamers like it was sacred turf (exaggerated for proper geek, effect). Me, you and super geeked them boys as if it was a three year running yo-momma contest with a bag of cash and Cindy Crawford on the line. And sure, it was infantile, and schooling 17 year olds is nothing to be proud of, and not befitting the caliber of discourse on this page, of course. But still, three years of that garbage, wasn't it? Good (friggin' the most Poindexter thing I've ever done in my life, and will never tell my real friends about message boards lest they shame me to death) fun.

Ok, that last bit finally pushed my aunt's obsessed worrying about my probable gayhood to amber levels (because I'm an older, single dude who goes through chicks in new towns like it's overcompensation. Sadly, I have no aunt, but if I did she'd be all over my case about marryin' that Andrew Bird lovin' chick asap -- who, as an update, met a dude with a yacht last week, while I was away. It goes rock, paper, scissors, and then yacht takes um all down. Yacht is like Kryptonite to the average dude with a cool job, trying to convince "way too young for you" chicks to listen to his punk rock stories. Can't beat yacht. That's why Cleveland, (and Providence, and toledo, and now I found Detroit which is a god damn gusher of great clubs), have such amazing joints -- no one with a yacht to compete with. You're a superstar there with just a smile and a leather jacket (which they can't afford. "He ain't got a jean jacket? Watch he's gonna make it rain.").

Can you tell I've been on Beale Street all day, and the liquor and blues lyrics finally got me? "You finally caught me. You finally got the Tater."

By the way, in the sober light of morning, I'm saying now that if Doc responds to this post with anything other than, "Eh, I've blocked the ESPN board history from memory," then my response will be to call the man half-gay right from the jump. Not that there is anything wrong with that. So, let's let my Beale Street (what have I wasted my life on) ramblings die. And get back to talking about dem blues.

Speaking of, you know Elvis used to get loaded and shoot his guns at random junk from his balcony? Well, if you do the tour at graceland, look for the bulletholes that riddle Lisa marie's lil jungle gym. Classic Elvis.

shocker that detroit has a thriving stripping market.

i looked for this thread to say i love the "punk goes..." series of albums. they made covering pop songs cool way before Glee did.

Just wanted to give everyone a head's up... DJ Format will be releasing a 12" featuring yours truly in a few months on 1/31/11. Advanced snippets of the tracks have been posted here:

http://www.kudosrecords.co.uk/index.php ... uct=PBB003

We've recorded two more tracks for the LP and are putting the finishing touches on a few more.

The goal was to make people fall in love with hip hop all over again. Hopefully, we accomplished that and then some.
