I don't care what happens with Wittman as long as Grunfail still runs this team.
I'd much rather have the pundits shine a light on the horrible job he's done as the GM of this franchise, everything else just pigs and lipstick.

So you think Randy is maximizing this roster and doing to bang up job then ? Because when you write firing him won't solve anything. It sounds like that is what you are saying. Because it would solve them losing because of crappy coaching. Now maybe you are saying winning more this year won't solve anything. MEH.. Maybe not. Maybe a higher draft pick this year is worth the extra loses. Is that what you are saying ?
Now the first part. It won't solve everything. No. It won't. But then again. Rarely does one move such as firing someone solve everything.
As for the new plan. Your new plan sounds exactly like the existing plan. Only I wouldn't wait on KD if I can get LMA in a sign an trade next year. Maybe even Love or Milsap because unless they know for sure KD is coming, bird in the hand. LMA would be a great fit here. Gotta go for the long shots as they are laid in front of you because you have a small chance of hitting on any of them.
As for that part, we don't know how hard they will try to jump next year. If they can sign and trade and move Nene, I think they would.

We don't have a GM who is innovative enough to do your plan or any other plan.

Re: Official Randy Wittman Thread - 1 More Year with Option
Dan Steinberg writes about how Bill Simmons has weighed in that the Wizards should fire Wittman:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc- ... y/wizards/
I have tried to keep an open mind about Randy and felt I understood his extension after the Bulls series last year, but I agree Wittman has to go. I understand effort is a factor in winning games, but come on. Like Flip Saunders, the 'My team needs to play with more effort ' excuse is one of his go-to reasons for how his team loses. The Wizards need to play smarter, not just harder.
I think Wittman is a good defensive coach and was a good interim-coach post Flip. It is time to move on while Wall is in his prime and Beal & Otto are developing.
The Wizards spinning-our-wheels-to-get-nowhere offense is depressing and predictable, but Wittman refuses to change. There seems to be an 'f*** the world, I know what I'm doing' attitude that permiates Wizards leadership including Grunfeld and Leonsis. That is not always a bad thing, unless you are wrong. Wittman is more Ptolemy than Copernicus.
So who extended Wittman?

Not that Wittman is doing a good job but that seems more like an Ernie problem. He's the one who overloaded the team with big men who can't shoot 3s. Randy has to give Gortat, Nene and Humphries their minutes (they deserve them). Would I like to see Seraphin benched and Pierce slide oher to the 4 more often? Yes, but that can only be done for small stretches because of our team makeup.

Thing is - I think most forward-thinking coaches would have used Pierce some at the 4 AND would have had Hump see if he could expand his range 2 more feet to the 3 point line.

Well, hopefully its just a transition year. Consider what they had last year and the year before. At least they have deep up front now. Its just not diverse depth yet.
They do have their first round pick. And if they can sign Kevin cheap he is a young big that still has upside. Kev signed cheap is fine for an end of bench big who might be able to help in case of injury. And if they sign Kevin, they will move Blair and open a spot. Plus this is likely Goodens last year. That's another spot.
Wall, Beal and Otto are all young with Wall reaching his not young not old age next year. That opens things up for adding more young players. To young isn't good. To old isnt good. For this year, it was a team of extremes. Very young and very old with not much in between. But the old players, they were clearly scheduled to come off the roster. Miller, Gooden, Rasual with Miller already gone. Then PP the following year. Hell, he might not even be back next year. And Webster will be gone as well.
The roster is Wall, Beal, Otto and Gortat and this years first. Everything else can get moved and the first could get used in a sign and trade if they can land the next big piece.
Now their sights are on landing that PF piece. LMA, Love, Milsap
Then build out depth. 6th man piece. They almost just landed Jarrett Jack so they are looking.
The next big piece I think that will help the most is an elite Head Coach. You have to know how the players will be used in order to get the next right pieces. Now if Randy and EG are actually on the same page and this is what EG wants, EG approves of what Randy is doing, then he has to go as well.
If you can get an elite front office GM/Coach, you do it. And next off season is a logical breaking point and is when I projected they scheduled to give serious thought to making that move. EG got his time under a new owner and has done alright. Much better then under Abe. And Randy was fine for that transition as well. But now he is killing them. EG I wouldn't say is killing them, but if you can get someone a notch or two better, you do it.

Booker "couldn't" shoot 3s, until he went to Utah.
Meanwhile Nene/Hump/KS routinely take shots 1-2 steps inside the 3 point line.

I also disagree about Wall and the p&r. Again, Ive been saying all along that its the system and the lineup. We dont run it the way other teams run it. Our p&r is ran for Wall to always throw it back when it should be ran to free Wall up and get him one on one with the big. Our bigs dont set real picks to let Wall blow by the. They set half picks and then pop or roll so they can get the pass back. Wall has basically no chance to get to the rim the way we run the p&r. Its not a North & South play with us. Its an East & West play that has Wall moving sideways instead of towards the rim. The only way to offset the terrible design is to have Wall playing with a stretch 4 but we never do thatt either. Its all coaching. You can say Westbrook is 10x better then Wall but there systeem is so much more wide open and Ibaka is hitting 3's.
SVG with Wade was the same way. It was all about setting the pick to get Wade one on one wiht the big. They won a title like that. Our picks arent designed that way. They just arent. Its super hard for someone like Wall to get to the rim this way and if he does then he has to force an attempt at the rim when he should be owning the big. Ive seen him try to split the double. He has that in him like alot of great guards but he cant do it with the way Flip & Witt design it. There thing is always about trying to free up the big on a pop or roll when it should be trying to get Wall a running start one on one with the opposing big. He would live in teh paint and at the ft line in that system
Great analysis! I have noticed the same difference in the way we run PnR. It's usually for Wall to pass to a big for a mid-range jumper. On some occasions, Marcin rolls hard to the basket. I would like to see Wall get the same opportunities that opposing guards consistently get against us (maybe, it's just the stupid switching defense that Randy runs)...you know, screen out the guard and have him trailing, so John can take on a big one-on-one and hopefully get to the rim for a high %age shot/draw a foul.

Gortat's great at rolling to the basket in the pnr, but he and Nene aren't reliable pick n pop guys. So, when Gortat or Nene come out to screen, nobody has to stay with them and nobody's afraid of Wall taking long jumpers - so both defenders can stay back and pretty much dictate that the Wiz end up with a low percentage jump shot.

You're right. Wall not being a great shooter pretty much means the guard doesn't have to fight hard to get over the screen and the big sags, giving up a low %age shot. I still think a stretch 4 would erase that problem. if you run the pick-n-pop and the big drains a couple 3s, John will have more options to get into the lane, since they'll respect the 3pt shot.

Can we please fire him now.
Ground hogs days isn't fun.... I called that a DET first half and it ended up being exactly that.
15 threes at the half.
67 pts to 39..
they end up with 23 threes
score 11 pts in the 4th
and player of the game Gortat with 17 rebounds 7-12 14 pts rides the pines in the 4th so Nene can play. 2 rebounds..
Wall .. 6 pts. 2-7 shooting for the GAME
2 turnovers for the team at 1/2.... 15 for the game.
Please just fire Randy already. This is beyond stupid. How does Wall only get up 7 attempts for an entire game ?

Was it under the Abe regime when Flip got axed?
Can't remember... And I don't have Ted's record of firing coaches. Simmons said he is known for his patience...
I think Ted knows he needs to pull a trigger, if he cares. And I think he cares. Randy didn't get canned after the Miami game I only hope that it was because that was the first leg of back 2 back. This month only after the game at CHA they have 2 days rest... Other than that they play every other night, basically (except another back 2 back during the west coast trip).
So it's gonn b after the CHA game??? We don't match up well with them anyway. So it's writing on a wall??? Either way it's painfull the rest of the season. SMH...

I knew there was one part that I ususally talk about but I forgot this time and its the other option is Wall taking the J like you said. Thats how our system is. Its maybe ok for guys like Flip who came up as a pg or its great if your pg is a Billups or Cassell but you are limiting Wall who is a superior athlete who should be destroying the paint.
Thats how he came into the league and thats how everyone pictured him. Attacking the hoop but yet we force him into a different kind of game. BTW, I just saw a stat where it said everyone thought Pierce came here to fix the stretch 4 problems but he's only played 34min all year at the 4. lol.........Wittman is a joke. We are getting killed by every top team in the East because they stretch us out our play a small quick game.
Again, I dont care what people say. EG is not great but Witt can do other things with this roster and he is refusing to do it. We are getting killed by the Heat's 5th string because they are stretching us out and playing fast yet we throw out big after big even when we have injuries to our main bigs. Its stupid. Pierce basically has played the equivlant of one game at the 4 all year and all the rest he plays the 3 even when you drafted a guy with the 3rd pick to be your 3 and Pierce at this stage is better equipped to play the 4. I dont get it

One thing I can't stand is when they hire a new Head Coach and he does a great job until the middle of the 3d quarter, and then boom they fire him and bring back the old coach. Really don't like that. I want the guy who coached the first half vs. the Heat to stay, and I want the guy who coached most of the 2d half vs. the Heat to be fired.
Seems simple enough -- why can't they just do that when it's so obvious?
(Or, to put it more realistically -- it's the players who play the game. Wittman's not a good coach and he should go, why not? But the guy who assembled the squad, and hired Wittman for that matter? That guy really has to go!)

I feel you a bit on this one payitforward. With a 35 point lead in the 3rd, the coaches could leave the building and a team with any kind of killer instinct should win.
Wittman stayed big, which had worked in the first half. At the end of the 4th in the near collapse when Beasley was going off, I think Randy actually used Pierce as a 4 with Nene at the 5. Nene is a good man defender and I was surprised Beasley passed it to Henry Walker with Nene in front of him on their second to last possession instead of talking a shot at it. Is Wittman learning? Probably not, but finally accepted the reality of that we were being stretched out.
I will respectfully disagree with your general contention that coaches don't matter that much payitforward. I bet the Wizards would have a few more wins this season with George Karl and Stan Van Gundy at the helm.

I don't want either of them around but just saying that firing him now isn't going to save the season. Otto Porter is not going to start making open shots, Paul Pierce, Rasual Butler, Nene and Drew Gooden are not going to become younger, John Wall's 3-point shot is still going to be broken, our bench isn't going to get much better. You can talk about small lineups and PNR's all you want, this team has too many holes. My point is, get Grunfeld out first and then let the new GM find a coach that of course will have some direct impact on KD or one he likes because that is all Ted cares about nowadays.
BTW. Kevin Love isn't coming here (he's going to the West Coast) and LMA is very good, but he's not going to fill the seats every day. KD will.
