Carmelo led Syracuse to a NCAA championship as a freshman, is the only NBA player with three Olympic gold medals and is a 10-time NBA all-star. On top of that, while it probably shouldn’t impact whether or not he makes the HOF, Melo has been one of the NBA’s most socially/politically active stars.
Singling out Melo’s “efficiency” as the reason he shouldn’t be in the basketball HOF is downright silly, imo.
My issue is with the "1st ballot" stuff. He can make it on his point totals, fine. 1st ballot HOF should insinuate sustained greatness at certain levels. His collegiate and Olympic careers do not absolve him from being kind of a career semi-loser in the NBA (at least with respect to other prominent stars in his era).
Back to Beal though, who I hope has a much better career then Melo

Melo's biggest fault is that he simply wasn't good enough to carry a team to a championship on his own. But very few players are.. some guys on that 2nd tier level get lucky ala Paul Pierce, but many end up like Melo in terms of team success.

Anthony's scoring efficiency in his prime was not that bad, generally he was at or above league average TS% which was around 54-55% in the 2000s His career TS% is 54.5. Leaguewide offensive efficiency is much more inflated now, but imo you have to judge players relative to their era. If anything I'd knock him more for his defense and reluctant playmaking, not his scoring.
The other day I heard a former NFL player making an argument for Terrell Owens being in the HOF, and his argument was that you cannot tell the story of the NFL over the past generation without mentioning his success.
TO is obviously more accomplished than Anthony, but imo you can't tell the story of the NBA in the 2000s without mentioning Melo, how he came from that historic 2003 draft and was immediately one of the most unstoppable scorers in the game, as well as taking his team to the playoffs for 10 straight seasons (despite people acting like he's a Cousins or some awful team cancer). Melo has been a very controversial and polarizing player, but he's made his mark on this generation of bball and has universal respect from his peers of his era. His production + resume = HOF

I agree that Melo is a first ballot HoFer. If Adrian Dantley is in the Hall, then Melo should absolutely be in. He's a rich man's Dantley.

Hey, ease up on AD.He sometimes works out at the LA Fitness in Maryland that I go to. He can't be any bigger than 6-4. One time I asked him how he scored all those points in the paint at his size. He said it was because he was lifting weights and staying in great shape before it was thing to do so it gave him an advantage. He's still in great shape, btw.
LA Fitness? I see him a lot at Gold's Gym in Olney. Guess he can afford two memberships lol. Robert Irvine works out there sometimes too.
Dantley's career TS is 7.2% higher than Melo's. His career scoring rate was slightly higher as well.
Dantley works as a ref which helps him stay in shape. Not sure what type of games he works.

To tie a bow on the earlier discussion re: Melo
Tracy McGrady (never been out of the first round playoffs) just made the HOF first ballot. Safe to say Carmelo Anthony , a 12x All-Star will be elected to the HOF as soon as he's eligible

Had to bump this thread! I just got done watching again and again Beal's 4thQ dunk last night against Detroit...along with JWall's reaction. BB is a much better athlete than most of us thought he was. You see it in his physical drives to the basket, his thunderous dunks and in his shot blocking ability.

He was a little too aggressive early in his career. I remember him trying to dunk on Josh Smith and Ibaka which didn't end well. I think he got a bit gunshy for awhile.
Glad to see him attacking now but I think he has learned that he has to pick his spots when trying to dunk on someone.

I liked the little smile on Beal's face afterwards. He probably wanted to snarl and act all tough, but he couldn't help but to enjoy the moment a bit. That was one nasty dunk, on national TV no less.

Re: Bradley Beal - Part III
I just think that having that summer to work on skills and his health was a big factor in going from good player to All-Star caliber. He was afraid to attack the basket, even earlier in the season, for either fear of getting hurt or just not having the confidence to finish at the rim. He's now finishing with his left and right hand and sometimes with authority. I don't think he's close to reaching his full potential. Hopefully "Playoff Brad" will show up starting Game 1 against Atlanta because that if' that's a better version that "regular season Beal" we're in for a long postseason run.

I'm happiest with Beal having played in 77 games!
Who would have predicted this at the start of this season?

Beal is the first Wizard/Bullet to ever average more than 23 points per game with a TS% above 60%. Indeed, only one other Wizard/Bullet has ever managed more than 20 points per game with a TS% above 60% (Jeff Ruland in 1984 when he averaged 22.4 points on .633 shooting).
