Kudos to Ainge for dumping KG/Pierce at the right time.

The freshy blown-up and patched-together Celtics are the 4th seed in the East currently while Grunfeld's all-or-nothing roster is same-ole same-ole.
Without Rondo no less.

Yup. This is kinda of what Dallas did. Without overpaying anybody, they quickly rebuilt their roster around an aging Dirk Nowitzki with shrewd free agency signings (Elllis at $8M, Mayo on the cheap before that, Dalembert at $4M, Wright at $5M, Vince at $3M, Harris and Blair at $1M each). They never had to bottom out. EG paid twice as much for our free agents (Nene at $13M, Gortat at $13M and a 1st rd pick, Ariza at $8M) and we're still not as good despite having 4 top 6 picks.
I'm really disgusted that Ted continues to back this guy.

The East is so weak, it's almost a foregone conclusion that the Wizards will end up stumbling into the playoffs despite their injuries.
Tough to justify that lost pick if you don't resign Gortat, and in a league where Javale McGee makes a little over $11 million a year, you can bet that Gortat will fetch a four year $13 million deal easy.

Danny Ainge also had the foresight to bring in a fresh face as head coach, and didn't end up recycling another washed up NBA guy.
Too soon to hand out exec of the year?

You're right but nate said:
'EG paid twice as much for our free agents (Gortat at $13M)"
1. Isn't Gortat at $7.5M yet?
2. We don't know if he stays here next summer.

Well, he paid Okafor $13M, and then traded Okafor for Gortat plus the deadweight contracts of Shannon Brown and those two other guys he waived. Effectively, he spent $13M in cap dollars for Gortat. I realize that Gortat himself has a very cost effective contract, but that is meaningless to us because we still shelled out the cap dollars to pay Shannon Brown, Kendall Marshall, and Malcolm Lee.

He didn't pay Okafor and he didn't play Lewis- but he did pay Gilbert Arenas

Indiana comes back against Miami- impressive win. Garbage 3 by the Heat to make it closer than it was. George only had 2 points in the 1st half but 15 in the 2nd half. If Miami gets knocked off by Indiana, what are the chances that LeBron opts out?

Wizards are right now a 7th seed. If they keep playing like they have in the last couple of games with no depth and the starters getting fatigued down the stretch, they could be on the outside looking in- Brooklyn looks a lot better with Williams and Pierce back.

I honestly don't see LBJ leaving, at least not for CLE as per rumors.
I suppose there are other potential destinations that might be attractive
to him. But it's pretty nice in MIA, especially if you're mega-rich like LBJ is.
All the money in the world can't make CHI a nice climate in the winter.
IND clearly is the class of the league right now. We all know it's a long time
to April and May though.
as for other games, most of our EC rivals lost last night, TOR, ATL, BOS, DET and CHI
all lost. That's helpful.

Wow, I just saw that Golden State has been playing Curry 40+ minutes since Igoudala went down. So it's not just Wall who has had to play heavy minutes.
The Warriors' backup PG is Toney Douglas, lol.

another night of losses for most of our 'rivals'.
CHI, DET, CHA, BOS all lost.

Curry didn't look very good to me last night as I was channel surfing
although I see he ended up getting 30+ and GS won after DAL had
been leading most of the game. 8 TOs but a critical 4 pt play
that Dirk didn't care for (superstar call?)

Wow, Kobe has only played a couple of games but he's already on track to be a starter in the All Star game based on fan votes.

Malcolm Thomas is showing improved range on his jumper through three games in the D-League this season. Thomas has made 13 of 20 three-point attempts and is averaging 30 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.5 blocks per game.
Thomas was signed by the San Antonio Spurs early this month.
“The early indications are that he’s expanded his skill set and was really shooting the three-ball well,” R.C. Buford said. “That has always been a valuable commodity in our system.”
Thomas has a shot at redefining the stretch-four position for the Spurs if he continues this development.

I could have posted this in the Fire Grunfeld thread also, but I cannot recall the Wizards ever targeting a player like this^ The Spurs are a deep playoff team yet they work tirelessly to uncover potential "finds" like Malcom Thomas. Where are the potential Wizard players who have been scouted and are now playing with our D-League affiliate? Could this potential player be better than Singleton, Vesely, and Maynor? Could this potential player replace Harrington?
Gotta love R.C. Buford. 30 seconds from Championship #5 and he brings back a team better than last year.

That's the good thing of having your own D league team - you can control what the players focus on and... develop them. Malcolm Thomas never had a jump shot before - let alone a 3 point shot.
Btw, Richard Howell of NC State is average over 22 and 12 and shooting well over 60% in the D League. I would have had him in camp if I was EG. http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/r ... index.html
