50 games of Dwight posting the numbers he has posted so far in his 9 healthy games is definitely worth $6M.

I'm not so sure about that. Dwight feels like a variation of Melo overall. His numbers are solid and have been reasonably good for a while now but no team ever really wants him. It's odd but he's gone from a player who made his name on defense to a player who's defense didn't evolve enough to remain relevant defensively and now he's left hoping that his offensive contributions can make up for his defensive ones and fighting an uphill battle. He is far from alone amongst centers in that respect in the modern NBA but teams everywhere are offloading centers and finding newer, cheaper ones that look poised to be more versatile defensively than older, more traditional ones.
I don't think his contract is awful or anything but any team with him hanging around with his expectation of what rotation minutes and role will be is likely going to struggle to play anything better than .500 ball because it means they're foregoing better options or they don't have better options. That may be true in the Wizards case and struggling to play .500 ball seems to be an Ernie Grunfeld specialty but I'd like to see the Wizards aim for more even if it means sacrificing a bit in order to develop a foundation over time.

That's the odd thing about all of this: I don't think anyone has actually denied the allegations. Maybe they figure that not commenting at all is better than denying and creating a larger discussion that draws more attention to the issue but I'm not sure what I believe here.

Or maybe his camp is preparing for litigation or a counter-suit. I've seen a lot of evidence pointing to the possibility of a hoax. Apparently the accuser has a history of being a known scammer in Atlanta and also tried to frame rapper Playboi Carti last year.
HOWEVA .. if it is true or even partially true, Howard is likely done in the NBA.
I don't care about his orientation and don't believe the players will either (John, Brad, and Otto played with Jason Collins , and iirc when he came out as gay the team was very supportive at least publicly) . Dwight has been a positive presence this year, but unfortunately there is a stigma in pro sports and his alternative lifestyle may not be welcomed in many locker rooms around the NBA. On top of that it looks like his body may be giving out on him. I think he will have no choice but to pick up his option next summer and the Wizards will likely initiate a buyout + retirement.

Dwight Howard (back surgery) will likely spend another month on the sidelines.
Howard has officially eclipsed the two-month mark of his initial 2-3 month timetable, and while he continues to make progress, he's yet to participate in any practices, which suggests he's still not close. He'll be re-evaluated sometime in February (likely after the All-Star break), but the Wizards are in no rush to bring him back. Thomas Bryant will remain the starting center until D12 returns, and Jeff Green will spend some more time at the five-spot with Markieff Morris (neck) also unavailable for the foreseeable future. Frankly, if I have to choose between Green, Portis, or Ian at backup center this season, I'd choose Howard. Hopefully, he can play some and boost his value enough to decide to opt out of his deal for next season.

If you're Howard, why would you opt out? He'll probably play some before the season is over but he's going to want to maximize his value with a full season under his belt, so we're probably stuck with him and taking playing time away from the young guy we should be grooming. Another EG gem.

Because at his age - it's either now or never. And he might want to actually play for a team that's not... terrible. I'm not saying there's a good chance he'll opt out, but if he finishes this season strong - at least there's a chance.

You could accelerate the process. Sit down with Dwight and tell him he will be a backup and play 8-10 minutes per game and some games not at all depending on matchups.
