Agreed on all counts. Philly is in a tough spot right now, so no need for us to bail them out.
Maxey + Harris doesnt make us better, doesnt save us money this year, and doesnt give us future assets. At best, we have a slightly less talented version of Beal with the clock reset. But Maxey is probably the 2nd best player on a playoff team and 3rd best player on championship team. And we'll have to give him the Max (~35M/year) next summer.
Not a terrible outcome, but I prefer something a little more scorched earth. lol

Brooklyn trades: Simmons, Finney-Smith, #21, #22.

Tanking doesn't help Brooklyn because they don't own their own picks, so they may as well try and win in the intermediate term. Beal gives them a primary option scorer and they get Simmons off the books. (Not sure how well Beal will co-exist with Dinwiddie though. But Dinwiddie only has 1 year left on his deal.) We get their picks and DFS, which leads me to Part II of this trade:

Washington trades: DFS, Morris, #22
Dallas trades: #10, Bertans

Dallas moves down in the draft to add a quality 3&D wing on a good contract who is friends with Luka. Bertans is owed $17M this year but can be bought out for $5M the year after.

Basically, we turn Beal into Simmons, #10 and #21 (plus Bertans' dead weight contract). I figure if we are rebuilding, we may as well see if Simmons is salvageable. If he isn't, his contract comes off the books in Summer 2025, so we would still have the cap room when it is time to add a free agent to our collection of rookie contract guys.

We could probably still land Cason Wallace at #10. I'd offering our #8 + #21 to move up high enough to land Amen Thompson. Just make the offer to every team from Houston on down when they are on the clock. Thompson doesn't really fit on anyone's roster from 4 through 7, they just need a little incentive to not take him.

I'd be pretty intrigued by this lineup for Year 1 of our rebuild:
PG Wallace/Wright
SG Thompson/Davis
SF Kispert
PF Simmons/Avdija
C Porzingis/Gafford

That's a lot of crazy athletes who can D up and pass. Yeah, nobody can shoot but Kispert and Zinger, but that just ensures a stealth tank while teaching everyone to value possessions and value defense (since they won't be scoring on offense).
Well I have the nets on my list for a Beal trade Ben Simmons smith do not have to be involved.

Summer, Oneal, Harris and mills for Beal works. Say negotiate the picks let's say 21,51, a future first and some seconds. Or 21,22,51 and some future seconds.

Or

Make it bigger. The same trade but

Dinwiddie, O'Neal, mills, summner, Harris.
For
Beal, cooks, Todd, Morris, wright.

This adds value and we ad even player for player trade. We can probably soak another pick or two out of them here

Then trade Spencer and O'Neal somewhere for value then trade or release mills or Harris and release summner and gill. To make room for all the rookies.

Sent from my SM-G991U1 using RealGM mobile app

Brooklyn is going to be highly resistant to a Beal acquisition if they don't unload Simmons in the process. No team wants to be paying Beal and Simmons a combined $90M. They couldn't possibly field a competent team around them.

Besides, if, by absorbing Simmons, we get another pick out of the deal, I'm okay with it. Simmons' salary isn't that much of a burden for us since the only other high-cost guy on the roster will be Porzingis. It's exactly the type of trade that works out well - one that helps another team meet their goals without really preventing us from meeting our goals.

I also believe Beal will be traded at the deadline if the team is .500 or below. They will extend KP, and allow Kuzma to walk unless he doesn't get good offers. I could also see a scenario where Kuzma resigns cheaply on a 2-year deal with player options on both years so tht he can test FA next offseason. This would also allow the Wizards to trade him and get a modest return back.

Upgrading the point and center position will also be a priority. Right now, we have two solid backup quality players at both positions (I'm not considering KP as a center--I think he's more suited as a PF).

Yep. We shall see but its plausible that Beal is here until at least the next Feb trade deadline. Which worries me because of further injury risks...

I disagree. I rather move on and get Maxey + 1-year of Harris a million times more than Beal. Just not seeing his pouting and body language whenever he graces us with an appearance on court would be a relief...

Now, on the question of also offering Deni and Kispert is up for discussion. I am still a believer on Deni's upside but I think Wes ain't the coach to get the most out of him.

As I said in the offseason thread, I would assign zero meaning to this statement. No smart GM in this position would prematurely announce that they are rebuilding. You trade your veterans first. THEN announce a rebuild.

Its not about Beal vs Maxey/Harris... Its about Maxey/Harris vs every other offer for Beal. And tons of teams in the 17-25 range would give up their pick for Deni or Kispert. So you are basically giving up Beal and 2 picks for Maxey... Huh?

The issue is that we probably have to give more to Philly in a Beal trade to get Maxey. Just read the main trade board and see non Philly/WAS fans reactions to the prospect of a Beal for Maxey trade....

Maybe you are right and in real life Philly is desperate enough that we pull it off. After all, Embiid is key here and a straight Beal for Maxey+Harris swap may be more feasible if Joel pushes Philly's front office for it. And this will probably hinge on the scenario of Harden leaving in free agency for Houston...

E.g. Kuzma goes to Brooklyn in a sign and trade along with either Wright or Morris, in return for which we get Simmons plus 21 & 22. Would it even be possible to do that deal before the draft?

A package of Quickley+Toppin+Fournier+Hartenstein+picks for Beal+Todd works in the trade machine. The question is how many (and what) picks...

I’d do that. Quickley is an awesome player. He’ll probably show very well in a bigger role with the Wizards, and get Brunson money for his prime, age 24/25/26/27, and be well worth the money and very tradeable for the life of the contract. Easy to root for, plays great defense. I think he’s a better player than Beal. Definitely a guy to build around

Toppin is just another Kuzma. Would rather get #23 overall if they still had it.

Tommy was definitely the guy (like myself) clinging to that 17-10 stretch for whatever it was, and also hoping Davis and Avdija would magically turn into stars.

There was never a plan

I don't see Ted paying the luxtax expense of Simmons. It's just totally untenable salary-wise to have Simmons and Beal on the same basketball team.

I did not realize he will be making 40M/year at the tail end of his contract. He has 2 more years left. Its an interesting idea, I wonder if new management would make a trade like this.
