Memo to Brett Favre: You should have sent that cheerleader a picture of somebody else's junk. High self esteem is a good thing, but it's no small wonder why she didn't take you seriously. Brett should have sent the photo with background music playing "It's a Small World After All".

His teammates probably don't respect him as much today. Dude really shouldn't have gone there.

Dang, I can't find the "Introduce Yourself" thread.

Anyway, a note from Severn via FB made me realize that - for even us old-timers - new applications have developed since the days of the dinosaurs (you know, my era). Accordingly, in addition to introducing myself:

Anyone else?

Random thought:

We really NEED the season to start soon. This board has spiraled into discussions about discussions on race, just who is a native Washingtonian, the purpose of a Shrine thread. Yikes.

Wizards have 4 more preseason games. At least 3 of these will be televised.

Let's get the freaking season started already.

Is this really the appropriate thread for such thoughts?

I made a solemn promise to myself that I would never join Facebook or Twitter. Ever. I'm technically a Gen-Y-er but I guess I'm more of a Baby Boomer at heart when it comes to technology. And I'm pretty proficient with the latest gadgets, but I just don't see them as being necessary and in some cases they do more harm than good IMO. I have absolutely no interest in "social media" (which is a horrible name for it since it's actually giving us another reason for less human contact).

Scabs and Pine - added you guys on FB. :)

I'm still new to Twitter. I post random thoughts, but I don't use it as much as Facebook.

Lyrical - I use FB mostly to keep in touch with high school buddies, etc. I play a lot of Mafia Wars (one of their top games). It's not bad, but you could get incredibly bored with it sometimes. Having been on there since 05, I've kinda seen and read it all, and it seems like every status update now is the same, just using a different combination of words.

And people use it to let out their personal laundry...not sure that's the right way to go about it, but to each their own.

I'll play:

Here's my fb: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=629343502

I'm gonna add you guys on FB, Anyone else from the Wizboard, shoot me a request as well.

I like FB for the same reasons as raf. I have friends from Ohio, high school, my previous colleges that I can keep in touch with easily. While their are plenty of people on my friends list who love to bitch and complain about their lives, I usually just block their news feeds, or most of the time, just remove them if they are pretty irrelevant to me. I only get the news feed from people who don't cry on FB all the time.

I have a twitter account as well but I don't even know my login. I created it when I got my android phone and followed a bunch of a sports writers and beat reporters. I use it just for getting sports news. I don't think I've ever "tweeted".

There's an article somewhere (TrueHoop, maybe?) that gives a little detail on this that actually makes sense. Basically, the NBA bans any shoes that have some sort of built-in performance enhancing device, on the spot, no questions asked. So, when this pair of shoes debuts by claiming that your vertical will be greater with them than with other shoes, they're automatically banned. The "automatic" part is the key - the NBA doesn't even test this sort of thing, but rather just takes them at their word and bans them.

It's actually pretty great marketing by the shoe company, intentional or not. You have these very expensive concept shoes that nobody has even heard of, that now, can legit claim to have been banned by the NBA for their performance-enhancing ability that everybody who checks ESPN has heard of. How many high school kids that previously were completely unaware of APL before will now be picking up a pair, looking for that extra edge?

The NBA writer from SI tested the shoes and found that their claims didn't hold up. They didn't seem to do much for the folks who tested them out.

There's a wide range of scenarios that can result from that, so I'm not jumping to conclusions, but sorry to hear that regardless.

My grandmother who just turned 78 has congestive heart failure. The worst part is it only gets worse. Make sure she tries to get up and get moving or her ability to breathe and consequent trips to the hospital will become more and more frequent. Just to give you a little hope my grandmother has been diagnosed with this for 4 years and she doesn't take care of herself at ALL. She is still kicking.
