Re: Political Roundtable Part XXXI
I don't understand politics.
Trump incited insurrection and secession. People are castigating Liz Cheney and Republicans for Trump simply want to ignore lawlessness.
Politics bothers me more than the Wizards front office moves

Re: Political Roundtable Part XXXI
So on Tuesday nights I am often at an open mic run by the Folk Club of Reston/Herndon
Years ago a young woman showed up a couple times... It was clear right away she
was a very talented singer songwriter.
Left handed and plays a right handed guitar upside down. She's become a bit of a minor
phenom more recently and I've heard her play at a couple major rallies/marches.
She and her wife showed up last night and played a couple songs each which is
all you get.
Not sure if this should go here or in the music thread but I'll put it here.
As you'll hear, she does social justice songs.
cancel culture, take this Ron DeathSantis

There's a deep sickness in our culture/country. Attitudes and beliefs that deserve to be deplored.

It's also that they are self-policing. They have extra-judicial powers that acts as carte blanche to murder civilians with minimal consequences. Unlike the actual military which has pretty restrictive rules of engagement and after-action reviews that can come down pretty harshly on bad actors, the de facto domestic military has minimal oversight and zero consequences for excessive force, or even state sanctioned homicide. Power corrupts. "Qualified Immunity" is dangerous to allow, it weaponizes police departments even more so than any decommissioned army equipment. If police forces can literally get away with murder, then they will attract people for whom that is a job perk. And drive away principled actors who find those sorts of officers repellent to work with. Or work for. And will be used as a weapon by the folks who choose where and how to deploy them. And which laws get enforced, and on whom.
I'm a union guy, but police unions are part of the problem.
I agree strongly with everything you said after the first sentence. I think the appropriate conclusion is
most police institutions do a horrible job of self policing.
This is probably a bad idea as a simple response to a more complicated problem but wouldn't
police do a better job of self policing if every civil settlement for wrongful action was funded
out of the pensions ie the unions that police get/have.
Historically bad actors survive and prosper and whistleblowers trying to do the decent and
right thing(s) are ostracized or worse.

This isn’t a politics issue. It’s exclusively a Republican/Conservative/Right wing issue.

Amazing how so many people think he's a really smart guy. That he is clever about understanding
certain aspects of human behavior is obvious. Children can be very good at such things. And make no mistake,
he has the intellect of a child. He's walking proof that money and academic credentials don't really
prove intelligence.

That’s just the default answer when someone doesn’t agree lockstep with a sh*tlib. You’re automatically a trump supporter. Oh btw, dck is a disingenuous boomer dweeb.
Btw I’m still waiting for that proof I voted for trump, dckingsfan. Or are you going to continue to lie like many of the people in on your side of the aisle.

Re: Political Roundtable Part XXXI
Trump kind of reminds me of Nixon. If he weren't some sort of meglomaniac he might actually be a pretty good president.
Biden seems like a really weird dude... I find trump to be on the surface a lot more likable than Joe Biden. I don't follow the politics at all.
I think republicans and democrats are full of **** both. Once you elect a politician all they do is vote along party lines so there is really no principle involved.... they're all just in itf or the money and the power.
With all the technology we do not need representatives to go to the capital to represent us.... we need to know what the issues are and the facts on the issue so that we can vote Each particular issue by ourselves. on our own or some other means besides The corruption we have right now

you just admitted that you don't follow politics at all yet made a case that voters know what the issues are and the facts.

i think it's actually the fact that your default answer is to disagree with everything lockstep with dem establishment, and in doing so, forces you to pretzel-brain yourself into defending really dumb positions like how Liz Cheney being primaried is a good thing, actually.
