Re: Official Wizards Draft Thread: Version 2.0
I've never seen the guy play. I don't know anything about him, so I'm gonna wait and see if he pans out, and if he doesn't, he's gone in 2 years. That's pretty much all I can say about that. I can't really say he's a bust when I've never seen this kid.

Most of the people here hated the Nick Young pick as well and I thought he had a really good rookie season. So I'm still going to trust Ernie over the armchair gm's here. I'd be more disappointed if there was an obvious pick to make at 18, but there wasn't. There was no one there that was an absolute can't miss, or a guy who dropped unfairly. Just a bunch of maybes and young guys with upside. I'm not mad at EG for this pick. Go with upside and hope for the best.

Which is why I never bash a pick. Look at the jackarses that wrote off NY after the frikkin summer league.

Potential 2nd rounder Walter Sharpe might be more NBA-ready.
I'm sorry. I'm in denial. I still smell a deal somewhere.

Re: Official Wizards Draft Thread: Version 2.0
well i watched some tape on him, and he looks more like a guard in seven footer body. He's got excellent hands and can finish on the break. He doesn't have any size to hold his position but he can hit the outside shot. Biggest problem with him is going to be that he can't hold his position in the paint on offense and he doesn't have great footwork, he has some passing ability and he likes to run the floor and get the transitional dunks. He will definitely be a good match up with Blatche. He has more post skills than blatche in the paint.
the key with this guy is that he has been in bred to be a basketball player since birth so he unlike most seven footers. BOth of his parents were basketball stars so he has a huge legacy to live up to and that will internal motivation unlike kfb or patrick obryant. the biggest difference is that he has great hands and he has been around basketball all of his life unlike most big men and his gene pool ..well super rare. Kind of reminds of what we wished for from Peter Ramos.

If EG decided a long-term PF with star potential was our most important position, then this makes a lot of sense to me.
Arthur could turn into a David West type surprise (I even advocated drafting him recently), you could easily argue he's another tweener like AJ and won't ever be the dominant big man who can defend the league's best PFs when the chips are down. A regular season wonder; a playoff disaster.
That leaves you someone like McGee who is at the position we need most (Chalmers isn't with Gil, Stevenson and AD, Greene isn't with Butler). And he has the most upside.
So what, he can't help us this year. Show me a rookies or even a sophomore who CAN, and who wasn't drafted in the top 5. It's really unusual.
I'm willing to let this guy grow over the next couple years. His mere presence may light a fire under Blatche's ass, since he's no longer the "new guy with high potential". He'll be the "guy who better start producing or in a couple years he could find himself replaced".
People aren't feeling this pick because of what some of the websites were saying about him and that Nevada isn't shown on the tube very often. It also sucks that we have to wait 2-3 years to find out if this guy can play. I'm not giving up on this guy. Hell maybe he'll be special, but you usually don't find a special big this late. Patrick O'Bryant anybody?
I wasn't feeling the Houston trade with us getting Luther Head and the #25 for our #18 and maybe Pech, but after taking McGee, I would rather have Head and #25!! We need help for 2008-2009!! McGee is a P R O J E C T....time will be what's needed with this guy. In other words, Cleveland owns us for another year....and they have added another beef guy to OWN us on the boards in drafting HICKSON after we took McGee. Not to worry though, we'll be owning Cleveland in 2010 when McGee is possibly ready to play, and LeBron is in NJ. So, Wizards in Conference Finals in 2011!! Whooooppie!!

Most of all we need solid defenders. Haywood is our only big who can defend and Blatche when he feels like it.
This is lame. We didn't get better.
Who was supposed to help us next year? Kosta freakin Koufos? C'mon, we all know what we need but it wasn't there. A trade down for Batum would have been nice, but this is still a good selection. A gamble for sure though
Courtney Lee will be freaking stud. From a BPA he's a good pick. Rebounding guard.
Chalmers would have been a no brainer. Winner who defends at PG.
Hickson will have success at the next level.
I'm not down with Arthur, but he'd have been way better than McGee.
RYAN ANDERSON would have been way, way better; and I wasn't a fan of him being the pick.
Hendrix is the player they should have picked.
Trading the pick (and I'm hoping they do trade McGee!) would have been a better option.
AT THIS POINT I'm hoping they drafted McGee for a team like SanAntonio.

Well the "In EG we trust" crowd is making their presence known.
If EG is such a genius & EJ is such a good coach then why can't this team do any better than mediocrity?

Just look at how many people we down on Nick Young last year. While he has his holes, the kid can score.
"Only tough guys need apply to play for Jerry Sloan. No softies."
...
"The Utah Jazz select Kosta Koufos"
baaaahahahhahaaha

If we don't get a point guard in the second round or in free agency (with what money?!), then we will remain thin at that position. I guess Ernie is comfortable with a questionable Arenas and an aging AD.

The draft isn't over there still could be a trade involving McGee.I'm hoping that is the case if that's not the case then this is a total wasted pick the Wizard can't afford to wait for him to blossom if he ever will and I don't think he will.

C'mon, all of the players on this team are talented. It's EFJ that doesn't know how to use it. Let's get our priorities straight here.

So you wanted a guard in lee that would have never seen the floor? Chalmers would have been fine, but he still wouldn't have played more than 5mpg. Hickson, Hendrix, Anderson = PF = we have about 20 of them already = they would not have helped at all.

I love your beauty pics, you're a classy guy and all, but I do know what I'm talking about when it comes to the draft and have years and years to prove my point.
This IS the worst pick of the draft, JWiz. McGee will not pan out.
The Wizards drafted tall. They drafted arms.
Jeez, grab Patrick O'Bryant with the pick and get a much better player. This draft totally blows.
I am all up in CCJ's head right now....we are "one" in our thinking on this!!
