Re: Kevin Seraphin
So who should Flip have played last night? What amazingly talented center do we have on the active roster to fill in at backup center when Blatche is injured?
We should have played Ladeedadee we all like Hamady? Really?

Setting him up to fail
Dude is the third center and Dray was injured in warm ups.
What other option did they have on short notice. Ronny is hurt and Hamady is in the D league. They gave he some court time because they had limited choices and they are a young team looking to evaluate and grow some talent. KS put in a good summer. He needs to get some court time to see what translates to the NBA game.
In 9 minutes he had 2 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals but shot really bad 0-4 and still go out of position on D.
They didn't plan on playing him. He did some good things. Some bad. What did you expect ?
Setting him up to fail ? Come on.
Maybe with some time to adjust, they call up Hamady to evaluate if Hamady has made enough progress. Maybe not. There are no quick fixes here. They say Dray will miss several game. I would expect they do something so they have more options at center. Ronny wont be available for several more weeks.

If Seraphin didn't play, half this board would say that Flip was sabotaging Seraphin's development by denying him any playing time.
We've seen enough of Kevin Seraphin to see that his talent-level is not ahead of those 10-15 other project bigs that are either playing overseas or playing in the D-League, he simply isn't ready to be out-there. By not developing him properly, we risk squandering the pick entirely.

No ones saying the Hamady is some great center lol, I'm just saying that as a first round pick Seraphin getting more time will be the only real way he improves and he can't really do that on this team, unless we just want to throw the season away already. You really just took what i said and ran with it lol

And what provided you this incredible insight. The 42 minutes he has played where they set him up to fail ?
He is a 22 6-9 young strong bull with nimble feet at 275. He is there to put a body on the other teams strong bodies. He is averaging 2 blocked shots in 10 minutes a game. He is hear to do what every young player needs to do first and foremost, play defense. That is what they are trying to teach him. It would be great if he could convert a put back and make a post move also but first he needs to learn to read defenses and defend.
Being out of position is his biggest hole. Something tell me that more then 42 minutes this year will be needed to teach him and see if the teaching takes. Seems to be working with other players. Wall got a lot better and he was terrible last year.
He has played well internationally over the summer. He got that experience. What he needs to learn is the NBA game and NBA speed and talent level. This year is about giving young talent playing time to grow so they can be evaluated as keepers or not. You don't do that in 42 minutes of playing time. The kid has seen more then 10 minutes in 3 games and played in a total of 8 games this year.

Hey, No one will ever top some of the commical crap McGee has done over the years.
But he is finally getting better.
I'm liking the hook shot.
KS will look better as well.
Man, it is going to really suck around here until they find something to score. Should be interesting to see what adjustment is made for next game. Seems almost every game they have had a new line up becuase someone has gotten healthy or something has gotten injured.

Like McGee, KS alters and blocks shots. It's a pity he wasn't stashed in Europe for two years, then coached under a quality big-man coach.

I would like to see him get some more time. He has looked decent lately and Mcgee has looked a little tired lately. Plus Blatche just sucks.

We should make that a mandatory custom on this board. All posts end in "Blatche sucks".
p.s. Blatche sucks.

KS is getting got some serious burn again the Sixers.

Re: Kevin Seraphin
I'm starting to get that feeling like....KS has finally turned the corner which is great. Now they can get him more court time so he can grow and this team desperately needs what KS bring. Along with Vesely, they finally have the extra bigs they need to be more competitive. Now before people over read into what I am saying, no I am not calling them all stars or anything. Just saying we have a couple bigs that can now get reliable court time that have some skills to make this team better. And both are just at the beginnings of what they can grow into. This team really needs what these two do. Defend, set picks, put a body on people, tough, hustle, open ears to coaching and KS as a soft touch around the rim.
I remember last year when he has a - PER
The kid no longer look total lost on defense.
I really like his quick feet for his size. He can close out. And he can actually move his feet and cover farther out on the perimeter and work his way back to the post while defending. And with no being totally lost, he is in better position for blocks and rebounds. And he set bone crushing picks on a team with few good pick setters.
He shows a soft touch around the rim. He made a shot last night floating to the hoop that I though no way was going to go in.
Looking forward to seeing this kid develop this year. He looks like a hard worker who is improving his game and getting more comfortable. And the McNasty look on his face is something the team lacked.
I don't think he will be a bust. At 22, he is just starting to grow into those big paws. He still looks like a kid out there just like Vesely does.

Right now KS is averaging 10 rebounds (7 defensive) and 3.9 blocks per 36 minutes. Small sample size with a lot of garbage time but still encouraging.
He is also a 70%+ foul shooter over the last two seasons.

It could be that EG's picks recently (emphasis on recently) haven't sucked so bad at all. Perhaps that's his evil genius plan - getting lots of great players who currently can't shoot and take a few years to develop. If this is the plan, get ready for drafting Lamb and kickin it into overdrive next year!
Or, um, perhaps the plan is kickin it in 2013...

He's still got a long way to go--right now he's not seeing the floor if he plays on a good team. I'm not optimistic.

Take a look around. The center position isn't exactly stacked around the league. Minny is starting Darko for crying out loud. Seraphin's current PER of 14 would rank him top 30 among centers.

Re: Kevin Seraphin
Darko is far better than Seraphin.
I believe fouls should be added to PER, and that drags him down. And he's always out of position. The league sucks and he's worse.

What are you basing this on? Darko sucks. He can't score or rebound. He can't make jumpers or foul shots. He can't finish inside for crap. He has been in the league since '03 and is still garbage.
Seraphins biggest problem is the language barrier. He has the size and strength to hold position in the post. he has the length and mobility to block shots. he has a good motor, a good hook shot and can hit foul shots.
I would take Seraphin over Darko easily, even assuming equal salaries. Seraphin has a lot of upside while Darko has none. Darko will always suck.
